An argument can be made that the focus on developing just for one gaming platform improves the quality of the game. But then again, Sony is in a business of making money and putting games on PC seems like a no brainer with the direction the market is currently heading.
Except we have seen both Sony games sell like shit on a platform with a 120 million users. We see PC gamers love to buy hardware but not full priced software like phones buyers. So Sony is trading 60 dollars sales to get a few more 70% of 20-30 dollar sales or less depending on the VPN trick of the day. A little wait doesn't bother PC gamers we know that. Sony is courting the cheapest gamers out there in a foolish mission. Hey port beggars can be happy. In the end less consoles sold and less profits except lord gaben who is always the winner in the non ftw PC space

It's a good thing, they focused on fixing Horizon PC release and delayed Horizon on PS5

Sony porting their games to PC is port begging?
No not at all. Sony can do what they want, I could care less.

The constant begging for games is what I'm talking about. Like their finally "4 the players" lol.

The point of studios is still making games. Why would porting games to PC negate the need for studios?

PlayStation has lots of games. They don't need to make their own.

If there is no point to exclusives, if they do not feel they need to attract people to the platform, then why are they even bothering?

Nintendo are looking really attractive right now to me.... I am about to head to Gamestop and see if I can get a pre-pre-order for the Switch Pro....

If PlayStation don't service my needs, I'll find someone who does.

Well, in that case, there is plenty of "port begging" going on regardless of whether we are talking about console or PC.

I don't get it. Suddenly PlayStation doesn't need The Last of Us, Uncharted, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, or any of their other games because some of those games may/may not be ported to PC? Are any of those games less entertaining if they were not exclusive to PlayStation?

So is your "need" for a game to be available on one platform and only one platform? Everything else is secondary?

I'm just trying to follow this line of thinking.

It makes them less desirable, to have them on other platforms.

It makes them less special, it makes PlayStation just another console.... it strips it of it's identity, it makes the industry more homogeneous and boring.

If everything plays pretty much the same crap, then why bother????

What is the point in a 'PlayStation' or 'Xbox' or 'Nintendo'?

Next good decision by sony will be dropping hardware business. Why sell consoles at loss?
Hardware is the entry point to software, accessories and services (PS Plus). Also by mid cycle or earlier hardware sales become profitable. PS4 was, from memory, profitable at the start. A few exclusive games ending up on PC isnt really a shake up that’s going to affect hardware sales. It’s just going to expand their software sales.

theres no way sony would just sit back and do nothing while microsoft fully dive in to pc gaming. that would be a terrible business move. even than sony still are reluctant to launch games on pc but i can understand that. they want to sell consoles first and foremost and once they have pretty much maximised their sales, release on pc. its a good balanced strategy and some of ya'll need to get out of that childish fanboy mindset. its the games that matter. not where its played.

True for some teams, of course, but look at the Astros... their lineup is lethal because they get hits, not necessarily HRs

and that team wrote the book recently on analytics

I think the game is still fine. Those that moneyball the wrong way (it was always about OBP over pure slugging) will see bad results

I don’t think Sony is making a bad decision necessarily, but they are acting in a way that indicates they feel that their games transcend their platform now, which is obviously a huge shift.

but if everything in the future does go streaming and generations cease to exist, they will wall that garden up again fast
Yeah, the yankees are playing the Rays right now and they do everything. they steal, they hit and run, they slap the ball around instead of waiting for homeruns, but even they are susceptible to strike outs, and Yankees pitching has exploited that in the last two games. They are on pace to shatter the all-time strikeout record, and I just know that eventually teams will figure them out just like they figured out feared yankees hitters this year.

My biggest problem with analytics is how they pick and choose. Jomboy did a great video on this that i will link below, but basically they dont look at all the numbers. they only look at numbers that fit their narrative which brings me back to my point about sony, their data must show that going to PC is more profitable but i listed so many other revenue streams that are going to be affected the moment they do that. I highly doubt that their numbers dont show that risk. it's just a risk they are willing to take for an extra $50 million of revenue per game.

I don’t see why not. If you can double dip on a game after it ran its console sales course AND help developers, I’m all for it.
Maybe we could even get more experimental/risqué titles with the increased safety net.

since I play on pc/ps5 I get all the exclusives anyways 🤷

Is this supposed to be a thread to talk about opinions or a thread for spamming offenses at Sony fans? First page is depressing to read.

Now about the topic, I would say my mind is on middle. I feel like putting some games at PC helps the brand to expand outside the console, but on the other hand feels like they're playing just for the money. Which kinda worries me if we think about things like EA, which screams money. I bet they would sell their relatives for money.

Not every route should be ALL money, otherwise Nintendo would go that route as well. Their focus are money sure, but they won't be going lower and certainly won't stop doing crazy stuff.

They might do that at some point but I don't think that's what their plan is right now. I believe it will continue to be games after a set period of time (they are experimenting right now anyway.)

Since Horizon Zero Dawn released on PC, my prediction has been and still is that all their exclusives will be on PC day one before the current generation ends. Sony IS doing the same exact shit that Microsoft has been doing but is years behind. Jim Ryan doesn't give two shits about the fanboys here, Twitter, AgendaEra or anywhere else. what Ryan does care about since he's a pure business/numbers guy, is money and how make not more revenue but more net profits. That's his job and his goal and will do whatever it takes to accomplish it.

This isn't directed at you personally by the way but more in general because reading other's posts, a lot of PS fanboys are simply delusional and think it's about them when Jim Ryan and Sony don't even know they're alive and exist. lol

At the end of the day, MONEY always wins.

Yep. When GG spent the past 6 months fixing the PC version of horizon, that had no impact on horizon forbidden West's development. It's certain to come out this year.

Oh wait.

MLB the show going to Xbox this year helped ps5 gamers because Sony took all that extra money and made sure to make the ps5 version of MLB look next gen as fuck. Frostbite hair, next gen faces, gorgeous photorealistic lighting. All because San Diego studios got the extra money and resources by making 4 separate Xbox versions of the game. Win win for gamers.

Nope. That didn't happen either.

Do you really think they will put any significant amount of people to fix a game and take 6 months to release? I'd guess only a support group is assigned. It's speculation, you could be right I just don't find it likely. I'd guess that they had enough time to hire more resources if launching 2021 was so important for them.

Don't know much about MLB, haven't played one in a long time but wasn't the game going multiplat something that wasn't decided by Sony? I mean, not that it means anything, really. There are good and bad ports, always have been.

I stand by my comment: I'd guess high tier seasoned executives know what they are doing and have data to support their decisions. In some other thread I shared Ryan's resume, he has like 20 years experience working at Sony.

i hope it's not only on pc either, microsoft, sony and nintendo should start selling their games on the competition systems too, exclusivity just means less people get to play a game and how could that be a good thing and defended is beyond me.

Everything will be OK. If Sony finds out their estimations were wrong and their business is doing worse they can stop releasing on PC and that's it.

If anyone needs help coping please send me a PM including your location and I'll try to find some support groups and specialists in your area.

Sony has just started to publish their IP on the PC which is the reason I believe that they are kind of in an experimental phase – they want to see what the PC platform can bring them. And I understand that, it would be silly to rule anything out, but I am not convinced yet that they will release their games on PC at the same time as console releases. If they do start announcing games day & date, I kinda hope they do that after establishing their own platform for distribution (not necessarily to exclude Steam, GOG) but to provide a connected experience across their systems (e.g. trophy syncing.) I mean, that's how Microsoft has done it and I think Sony should do that too.

What the fuck are these threads.

My god. Gaming is getting more and more inane by the minute. Can we get back to our normal schedule of posting interesting content or news otherwise? Jesus Lord have mercy on my soul.

I played Twisted Metal, Jet Moto and MGS all on PC back in the day. Putting some titles on PC isn't really new. Heck, I still have my disc copy of Mario Is Missing on PC.

I don't see Sony having their own storefront at all becaue I don't think that they would want to go through all that trouble. I see them putting the games on Steam and Epic Games Store.
