Sony's PSP Ads Suck

I think Sony is kind of stuck on this whole "PSP is SO damn Cool we don't even have to TRY and sell it!" trip. They put it on the market and they're all like "Who in their right mind Wouldn't buy a PSP? Lame asses that's who."

That's shockingly accurate! :D

Smart, good looking, and well dressed gamers prefer PSP. :P

You should run Sony's add campaign because they are attempting to go after the back-packer and ipod crowd.

Then you just have bad taste, it's probably the best video game ad I've seen in years.

I don't think it's that. judging from his post history he has been 99% negative to everything DS related.

They're strange, but they're still better than the DS or 360 ads, imo. A lot better.

they are not strange at all, just lame really, or at least the dust balls . those guys just suck. they are going for the stoner audiance i think.

Yeah, it's like watching carpet , OUTSIDE.

ok then...

I'm surprised nobody made a thread about this a long, long time ago.

"It's like carpet you can watch outside" is akin to saying "We have no good games on our system". I can't think of a worse marketing angle. It insn't fresh, interesting, or any of the above.

Outside of the PSP ad they've played at movie theatres (the system being shown rotating against some overly grandiose music) and maybe the one showing the PSP being passed around the world, the commercials have been embarassingly bad. They're some of the worst gaming ads I've seen in years, and possibly ever. The DS ads are twenty times better. SCEA should be ashamed of themselves.

The whole "urban" thing is kinda confusing to me; and not the demographic they are targeting, but rather how they're doing it. Like, I'm downtown Chicago at the club we rented out for New Years and, while, literally, pissing out money, I notice that somone opened the art/advertisement frames many bars have above the urinals and put one of these PSP-stickers (the dude licking a PSP-on-a-stick) over their otherwise classy art; and it sucked... horrifically dumb. As in repulsive dumb; As in I'm drunk and that's still fucked-up dumb. To top it off, I'm convinced the only reason I even recognized it and am able to tell you it existed is because I've seen the thread here about their ads. And whomever did it did it recently as it wasn't there 3 days ago; either I'm missing something that Sony's not or as well said in SuperTroopers, SCEA's ads are enough to make a dark man blush. Especially when they're generally way ahead of anyone other than Apple in adverising: see Like.No.Other; or Live in your world...

That's the funny thing about subjectivity; I think you have bad taste. ;)

Anyway, I saw a new spot with the same style/theme as the squirrel/dust bunnie ones, with two rats, where the PSP represents cheese. It was fucking terrible, too. I still think the ones with the squirrels (the one with the gameplay footage in particular) are decent. The dust bunnies and rats ones were terrible.

And if you're offended by the squirrel ad.. jesus.

Lighten up, it's a sexual innunedo joke, much like the one with "I'm playing with nut".

Maybe SCEA should hire the guy who directed the bouncy balls Bravia ad, and that would make everyone happy. How many people (kids especially) who play games would give a rats ass about such kind of ad is questionable though.
