South Park Creators backing off Trump.. "Satire has become reality"

What the fuck is with some of the replies in this thread?!?

They're absolutely right, the way they make fun of things is by satirising them to their extreme and showing how absurd it all is - with trump & co, that's an unachievable task because there is no extreme to which they will not go, blatantly lying about things and calling them "alternative facts", to removing climate change from government activities, trying to dismantle planned parenthood, banning people/religions from entering - pure acts of evil and hate, and that's not taking into account trumps pure childlike disregard for anything and anyone with a differing view.
I can totally get that Matt & Trey are finding it hard to make fun of this with their normal brand of comedy because there is no extreme they can go to that's too far...
What they could do...they've already done over the past few seasons..

Sobering remark that sometimes the "fun" stops when things get seriously bad. There's two humans behind the show, not two people furiously rubbing their hands all excited because a real-life shit show is happening.

Last season was great, and it used to be "mildly funny" watching some viewers ragequit the show because they couldn't handle PC principal, but some of the replies in here are far past the mild humour about people losing it in the South Park OT/on the web. It's a long-running animated cartoon that has been insanely graphic and satirical in its mocking of many things, and this is the hill people call them "cowards" on? Really? After a whole season mercilessly mocking Trump, raping him to death and spending just about 50~90% of every single episode on him/trolls (his followers)?

I simply have to refuse to believe some posters in here actually watched last season and are just firing off hot anger/vitriol due to general unhappiness.

Fucking thank you. It is incredibly ironic because one point last season(albeit a small one) was that when you go full 100% ass blast on anything that doesnt align with your views to a percentage of a percentage, you wont get anything done and might help the other side by doing so. If the first few pages of this thread are any indication, that is a lesson no one is willing to learn. Get ready for 8 fucking years of this giant douchebag.

If Gaf is that unbearable because of a few overzealous posters than slide to Voat like the rest of the people who jumped ship. South Park getting criticized, even erroneously, is no reason to start bleeding all over.

I have this funny feeling that most of the people here calling them cowards are guys that think that just by putting a resist banner on their facebook pics and posting in gaf they are already leading a huge revolution against trump

South Park has warned about the dangers of TRrump from 2 straight seasons, they even used 2 second most deplorable character in the show after Cartman as a representation of Trump, and even predicted that he will become president "the joke went to long until eventually he really became president" they really can't make a parody of anything made by him sinc everything already feels a parody, at best I think that they will make fun of the people that voted for him (And I doubt that they will completely ignore Trump, specially since they already used mr garrison for it)

Heck, Gaf already feels like a south park parody of the left with all the overreactions
 
I don't think Matt and Trey mean what's happening is funny as in laugh-inducing so much as it is absurd. And it really is hard to make a good satire when reality is so far in the realm of the absurd. They have not gone easy on Trump at all. Anyone who watched last season could recognize this surely? They shat on Trump pretty much every opportunity.

If you want to take issue with the general political philosophy of South Park (in so much as it can even be called that), then go ahead, but their treatment of Trump has largely bucked that trend, and frankly I don't want the show to just become "can you believe what stupid thing Trump did?" I doubt they'll let his weirdest shit go without comment, either.
 
Sounds more like they gained far too many of his supporters as fans because of their "so woke moderate" take on the election and now they don't want to ruffle any feathers. I love South Park but I remember seeing a post that described the show to a t. Their message is that not caring about things is the way to be and if you care you're stupid.

Ugh this thread is becoming frustrating as fuck now since it's turning into "SP is 'both side the same' alt-righters that can't criticize Trump" vs "GAF is so anti-Trump circlejerkers, can't say anything here"

Yes it's really annoying that people are so willfulling ignorant SP here and spouting false shit, but I'd easily say they're the minority and for the most part just shitposters coming in and leaving.

They are definitely not afraid to say what they think. They could make fun of trump for ages. Wouldn't mind seeing some more of it but ion the other hand it's good that they are going to cover different topics. They focused enough on Trump.

I agree with the South Park guys. They spent an entire season on Trump, and it seems like every comedy show these days spends a lot of time dumping on him as well. It's time to move on. People who call them cowards need to realize it's not a comedy shows job to call Trump out on his incompetence; that belongs to the Dems / Politicians.

The thing is people are wondering that about The Onion too, simply because the current state of affairs we are in is so ridiculous you can hardly make satire when reality itself has become so hard to believe.

Either they make jokes out of the world that nobody would believe and end up looking like they're trying way too hard to be funny, or they try to stay grounded but remain outdone by reality when it comes to satire.

It's hard to make fun of someone who is worse than satire can paint them.
 
Good last season sucked because of it. I'm sick of seeing trump. Leave that stuff to snl. Some of the people in this thread are crazy though.

Now do I always agree with them? No... I feel their best shows were their first 3 seasons, as it was just silly as heck :). The newer ones were too "realistic", although the last few seasons were hilarious in how it just riled people on both sides, their gun critique alone was hilarious! :D

Isn't it usually the other way around, you're now NOT an ally, you're a filthy 'moderate'? I thought being an ally was the gold-tier bracket that's now nearly impossible to get into as the purity exam for getting in weeds out 95% of people.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Seems that way considering the anger in a South Park topic of all places, where accusations of 'alt-right' are coming like candy at Halloween. Although, to be fair 'alt-right' started in the South Park OT's last season when PC Principal appeared. It's one thing for the anger to go off at the creators, but now it seems to be targeting the viewers who do not conform to being angry at Matt and Trey and calling them all sorts.

As if a whole season of SP just magically disappears and can never be rewatched/referenced. Crazy. Especially given that South Park's formatting in the past gave one or a handful of episodes to major political on-goings. Or maybe it spawned re-occurring characters, but they were every now and then, not a whole season. They're obviously going to get asked about long-form story arch plans, and probably a ton of questions about Trump, but even in the OP they never said Trump won't ever be mentioned again. Just don't expect another full season. *cue anger* Ironically from people who either don't even watch SP, or don't particularly like it.

The funny thing is while the polls were telling everyone Trump had zero chance of being elected, SP were warning of him getting in by being an asshole and "not even seriously trying".

I don't mind if they take focus from him, but they should still have him in the background. Some issues like "alt-fact" and immigration ban deserve to be ridiculed.

And how could they NOT parody Spicer, he was made for South Park.
