Spiders are awesome

OP, this is the fifth thread you've made about spiders. How can you even love spiders that much? Are you a spider yourself?

It's a salmon pink birdeater. She's much bigger now! Aggressive too, which is a shame.

I get loads of house spiders too. This was on my wall the other day

Come to think of it, that looks like a pube next to it. Consider that a bonus.

Where do you live so I can stay as far away as possible

Hola amigo!

I fucking love spiders. They bother me when they crawl on me, but so do insects and other creepy crawlers. I suppose the threat of a venomous one biting me is pretty scary, but beyond that, they're some of my favorite crawling animals to see do their thing.

Y'all people who hate spiders to their very core, you sure like repeating that sentiment in many threads about them rather than just ignoring lol.

Spiders are cool. Also useful. And most of them just want to be left alone. Some of them are outright intelligent and cute.

I'm a fan of jumping spiders, personally. Little kittens, the lot of them.

I'm kinda thankful that they're as small as they are though, because they're ferocious hunters.

I'm always looking forward to the warmer months since that's when the Zebra spider starts showing up everywhere. Totally adorable.

So is OP spiderman or manspider?

Finally a positively titled spider thread.

I do it for people like you!

I hope mine don't do that to me when they get older. But I'd rather that than stronger venom bites from Old World Tarantulas (which is what those Ornamentals I want can do).

Soooo cute! They get BIG though;

Some more pretty tarantulas.

Cyriocosmus leetzi
Harpactira pulchripes
Aphonopelma chalcodes
Heterothele villosella
Thrixopelma ockerti
Heteroscodra maculata
Poecilotheria subfusca "highland form"

I used to be taunted as a kid spiders (and daddy long leggers - though I don' t think they are spiders?) in bed when I'm sleeping or in the water when trying to take a bath. Now I kill any that get near me. I don't go out of my way to kill them, I don't care if they are harmless, and I don't care if they are beneficial. If they get within range, they are dead.

Tarantulas don't bug me too much (at least when they are in cages).

This kind of spider though... these are exactly the kind that freak me out.

I've gotten better about it and I realize spiders overall are helpful. But they still freak the hell out of me and I will jump and run back if one of these surprises me (especially the idea they might get on me. I think a friend pinned it, I'm more afraid of getting a spider on me than the spiders). I try to move them if they are in an area I just can't deal with them being in (I have a device that lets me catch them and keep them far from me and prevent them from climbing up it, cause i don't like just using a stick cause they could climb towards me).

And having a friend who keeps a lot of spiders has actually helped me get better about it. I've killed very few now and just moved them and let others actually stay (like one on my AC unit that made a web cause I figured if he's on a web, he's not moving around. Long as he stays there, I'm ok with it).

And the little jumping spiders (which other than the tarantulas seem to be the majority of pictures people are showing) are kinda cute. But I don't seem to mind spiders as much if they have shorter legs and are furrier. It's the spindly long legged ones like that one that really freak me out.

That spider is a tarantula, though. Tarantula is the type of spider, and Salmon pink bird-eater is the kind of species. But that's great you are combating your fears! What helped me out (because I grew up being scared of them too) is learning about them. They are incredibly fascinating animals. And there are so many out there. They all hunt and live differently. I am still learning so much each time I decide to read up on some.

EDIT - Oh, you mean that house spider in the image. Gotcha!

Yeah, I had to put in the pic cause I didn't realize it was a quote within a quote so wouldn't get put in my post.

And I had a friend mention they kill hobo spiders (which are controversial on whether they have a bit like a brown recluse) so now I can't decide whether I want those type gone or not (house spiders like in the picture). I like that they kill a spider that could possibly give a nasty bite but they do freak me out a lot (and they get pretty big).

Edit: And actually, an odd thing that helps with my spider phobia.. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. When that thing that keeps reincarnating wants to kill Arthur cause he keeps killing him (and one of the incarnations was a spider). I keep thinking what if spiders get reincarnated and remember me? That would be really freaky (course I"m already doomed cause I have killed a lot of spiders in my life. And even when I was most scared of them part of me did feel bad).

I was reading about the Hobo's venom toxicity. I hope they figured it all out soon. There are debates that need to be deaded about them, recluses and other house spiders.

I'm debating on what my next spider will be. Because it's so cheap to keep them, I wouldn't mind getting another one and two to keep. I know for sure, one I will eventually get will be a Poecilotheria (Poecilotheria subfusca, or Poecilotheria metallica). The other I am up the the air with. Here is an option;

Psalmopoeus-pulcher.jpg

Psalmopoeus pulcher (Panama blonde tarantula)

I love how these look. Fuzzy, and colorful. And from what i've read, they are very laid back. Something I keep in mind when searching for tarantula pets. Maybe I'll get another Avic (Pinketoe). Look at how fuzzy they are!

Now I like spiders and all, I think they're great but... I can't get behind that girlwithspiderinmouth.gif, that's on a different plane

I actually don't disagree with you. That girl is fearless though. I wonder what kind of spider that was, to begin with.

I want to get a few more Tarantulas, but I'm not sure if I'm ready for a faster, more venomous one. But it's what I actually want. The Heteroscodra maculata (Togo starburst baboon tarantula) tarantulas are beautiful, but not recommended for beginners, which I consider myself to still be even with two tarantulas.

As a moth person, I can relate to your love of spiders. I don't kill the ones in/around my house, but I generally don't let them live inside. They are very pretty though.

Moths are great, and people being scared of them is a million times more confusing than the fear of spiders. I just don't get it, I have witnessed people losing their shit over a tiny moth.

These moths make me think of summer, there are millions of them on the sand dunes here in those months.

Six-spot Burnet moth

This is my wife. I mean, she jumps over most critters. Flies, beetles, spiders, and everything in between. Moths drive her crazy no matter the size. I'd imagine she'd pass out if she saw one of those giant moths.

My wife too, and she picks up the biggest house spiders with no problem. Spiders that I wouldn't even touch, yet if a moth or fly surprises her she screams.

She's braver than mine. She doesn't even want to look at images or video of spiders. It freaks her out. She has a genuine phobia, and she can't tell me why for the life of her. No ill experiences, or anything. Do you have any knowledge on Scorpions? I think i may pick one up along with a Togo tomorrow from my local [spider] pusher.

I always thought the Death's-head Hawkmoth was awesome.

I don't have any knowledge of keeping scorpions, I'm sure there are loads of youtube videos and care sheets though. They're a step up from keeping spiders I imagine. Ever considered a camel spider? I don't think they live long in captivity, but they look very interesting.

The death's-head hawkmoth is beautiful, loved them ever since I first watched Silence of the Lambs. They hiss/squeak quite a lot. The beauty of T's is that they're silent (unless pissed off, then some do hiss). I'd love to see one in real life.

OP I tried to give your love for spiders a chance. But the deeper I went into this thread the more I realize I will never come to love them.

......so ima keep my flame thrower

Yea. I'd imagine they would need a bit more than most T's. I see some need warmer enclosure set ups (heating pads and such). Not sure if I'm ready to go over my budget. I have no considered a camel spider. I don't even know much about them other than some superficial information. It would really come down to pricing if I pursued one of those. I am also considering getting a trap-door spider. I know you don't see them nearly as much as tarantulas, but man they look cool. Especially the one with the interesting butt. Cyclocosmia torreya I think it is.

At least you tried.
