Spike VGAs Thread: [Update: FINALLY a funny joke descends upon the show post #4807]

Its only monday people, curse you time.

Coming back to this I think it may be possible that one of the MS titles is Codenames. This is what the UK marketing manager Stephen McGill had to say about Codenames recently in an interview;

“Obviously we’re not going to announce any third-party products on their behalf, but one that we’ve announced, that we’re going to be developing with Crytek, is Kingdoms. That’s a brand new IP that has a really good future next year.”

Interview is linked to GamesIndustry, sign up required.

Though with just 20% done post E3 I'm not even sure what they could show at this point. Maybe a small bit in game leading to a bigger something at E3.

Also this maybe possible new concept art from the game;

Basically what is known is the art is from 2009 from a Crytek Budapest artist for an unfinished game.

Don Cheadle looks so sad

Here is the full Q & A part about new IP's:
Q: Do think it's possible to introduce large-scale, exclusive IP along the lines of Forza, Gears of War or Fable at this stage in a console's life-cycle?

Neil Thompson: Absolutely - why do you ask the question?

Q: Because it seems that a lot of the current large IP is sequels. There hasn't been a big new exclusive IP for a while.

Neil Thompson: I don't think that there's a barrier. In some ways it gets easier as you're as broad a platform as we are now. Investing in big IP, be they new or second or third iterations of existing ones, is easier when you know you have a bigger base. It's harder when you're first launching a console because you have to make a bigger investment.

Stephen McGill: Obviously we're not going to announce any third-party products on their behalf, but one that we've announced, that we're going to be developing with Crytek, is Kingdoms. That's a brand new IP that has a really good future next year.

Neil Thompson: Yeah - I'd also say - we were chatting to someone earlier and they asked the question, what had we learned over the last five years on this journey we've been on. One of the things we've learned is - you need great content. Evolving IP is a part of that journey, and it's a necessity really to being a successful platform holder.

People came to our platform early because of the gaming experiences, we keep offering them the content that they want as well as the customers who maybe want broader content.

The video was posted a week ago, but is this anyone identifiable?

He pops up for half a second after the promotional video states there will be world premieres, after "Look Closer" quickly flashes.

Thats 100% Alan Wake

That's Alan Wake, the game is nominated for best xbox game though so I don't think it's related to an announcement, too soon.

Wow, EatChildren did not play Alan Wake? :/ This scene is from the game and I think it means nothing as there were many scenes from other 2010 games mixed into the video. Sadly.

No Xbox for me.

I predict Wake 2 for the Kinect.

The job listing at least suggests some crossover with the next one. Core elements intact, but definitely some Kinect with it. All I know is I'm pleased as it looks like MS will continue to support the brand. Remedy simply needs to polish and adjust a few things this time around.

Edit: Though I do not expect to see AW2 for awhile.

Moar Alan Wake?

FUCK. YES.

They've just thrown various images of games from 2010 in their trailers. It's technically supposed to be an awards show, even if none of us here care about that part.

Though I agree it's a little early, they showed Arkham 2 too soon too, besides the Remedy guys have been saying for a while that they know exactly where the second season will go, the tech etc is already in place.

Hopefully it is AW2 and not just a random clip because the game's in the nominee's.

I hope they do not show something too early again. But they said they learnt from their mistake of announcing this as an open world game during the prototyping phase. So I am optimistic.

Like Ruffian Games project, we will hear Remedy's project at the end of next year.

They could have been working on Crackdown 3 at the same time as Crackdown 2. It is slightly feasable it could see release next year, but I would think it would be towards the end of the year.

I think its too soon for Alan Wake 2, but who knows?

Hopefully any Kinect functionality in Alan Wake 2 is on top of the base game, I'd hate to not be able to play the sequel and see the story.

I can't wait for that. Awesome.

I know IGN and the likes of Hillary are somewhat frowned upon here but he had this to say Xbox 360's 2011 line-up in the 2010review:

Next November marks the 10-year anniversary of Microsoft's entry into the console market and to celebrate, they seem to have an amazing line-up set to go. The big game announcements haven't even begun, but from what I know 2011 should be a killer year.

Could be a nothing quote. I'm all for some optimism though since I've been far far from impressed with 2011's 360 offering beyond third-party titles and GOW 3, obviously.

Yeah we'll see, sounds promising though.

Of course it will be amazing, XBLA alone kicks asses.

It's the same thing every fucking year.

BTW 2011 year of the PS3 !!!1!1!

While I agree, 2011 is different. Valve are now working on the PS3, so the likelihood of console exclusive Valve games for the 360 has decreased. Bioware will likely release all future Mass Effect games for he PS3 now, so a console exclusive series has been lost there. Microsoft are focusing some of their attention on Kinect now etc.

What we need are some traditional 'core' games pre Gears of War 3, which is coming September 2011 (if we go by what Mark Rein slipped) or November 2011 (if we go by what Coles voice actor said).

I don't think we've been in a position before with Microsoft where we haven't had anything announced (retail) for the first nine to eleven months of a year. That irregularity is only emphasized when we look at Microsoft's most direct competition who have enough notable releases announced to drop more than one a month in 2011.

If IGN are to be believed we should have some good stuff announced at these VGA's. :D

Between XBLA, Gears 3, Forza 4/Kinect, Codename: Kingdoms, the TGS announced Kinect games and the alleged unannounced AAA games, there should be plenty for 360 owners to sink their teeth into.

On a personal note, I'm not sure how many more games I'll be able to commit to in 2011, considering we have the 3DS launching, a PSP2 potentially launching etc. Then I have to consider the games I'm already mentally committed to. . .its going to be a fucking expensive year to say the least.

Ignored this thread totally up til now:

Is there any chance of any third party 3DS games being announced at the event?

No. VGA is an big award show. There is only room for the massive mainstream stuff like Batman, Gears, Unhcarted and so on.

Don't forget Thor. Can't get any more mainstream than the God of thunder.:lol

Yeah, thought as much. Batman's enough for me anyway!

Well i don't think they've ever shown off a handheld game at the VGA's, then if it's a third party 3DS game it's most likely to come from japan and i don't think they've ever shown off a japanese game at the VGA's, and if it's a game on a Nintendo handheld it's likely to want to appeal to fans of Nintendo games and those people aren't normally the same as the dudebro audience that the entire show is geared around appealing to. So i think it's extremely unlikely.

That'd be awesome, but I suspect that portable/handheld gaming will be ignored almost entirely except for a few token award categories.
