Well deserved, and hopefully will show Nintendo that people want and will support good new IPs.
inb4 Neoxon posts his wall of shame againDon't worry, I have my own walls of shame prepared for other things.
Well deserved, and a fantastic start for a new IP.
According to Famitsu numbers for June 8 to June 14, Splatoon was already at 298k, with a drop of only 26% from the week before. If sales dropped another say 30% for the following week, that would still put it at 340k for just Japan alone.
Add sales in the US for May and you've got 476k. Do you honestly not believe Splatoon sold even just 24k in the US for all of June so far?
And again, this isn't even taking into account digital sales for the two countries.
Indeed. I think a few avatar bets had been made in the May NPD thread over Splatoon's June performance as well. I look forward to June's NPD thread.
*Sigh* Whether we're talking about 45-50% margin for the rest of the world, barring an insane amount of downloaded versions, there would have to be significant pickup from other markets for this to be sold-through. It's possible they sold 300k digital copies or whatever but it seems somewhat unlikely.
I hope smash 5, the 3DS most likely won't be able to handle the Ink mechanicsThe Inklings in Smash are inevitable, the question is when. Either Smash 4 DLC or Smash 5.
If Splatoon ends up being a hit, I'll drink my own urine.
Millions is asking a lot on a console with a user base as small as Wii U's. It has to at least outsell Captain Toad to be considered for the urine challenge.
It's good news not just because a really great game is selling, but because this is a game made and spearheaded by the next generation of Nintendo developers, so this success story hopefully means Nintendo will be even more open to let the "new blood" take the spotlight.
Me thinks you are underestimating NA sales in day 3 through whatever day we are in.
I'm pretty sure Captain toad didn't cross the 1 million mark

Now hopefully Devil's Third will get the benefit from the Wii U shooter audience.

Haven't you seen the NPD thread?!?!?! Everyone expects Splatoon to crater and completely fall of the charts when June NPD data is released.
I wouldn't be surprised if Splatoon matched or outperformed its May performance this month in US.
I'll guess we'll find out in June NPD. I don't overly see it selling twice as much but I suppose it's feasible with how dry the summer is for the Wii U.
Or it's done very well on the digital market which is plausible considering they had a discount deal in the PAL region if you pre-ordered during the testfire. We know physical between those two markets it's done 500k, I feel digital US + Japan and all of PAL physical and digital it could have just eeked by 1 million worldwide.
So now can folks start admitting its a hit? I was starting to get eyestrain at rolling my eyes so often anytime someone tried to talk about "well number 1 in japan don't mean anything given their sales".
Give it a rest haters. Its a different kind of competitive shooter multiplayer and folks are enjoying it a lot. Its popular, its successful, and it didn't have to have Mario's face plastered to it in order to gain this attention. Its a new IP and its good and I'd love it if folks can stop making excuses as to why its not "technically" a success in their book after this.
Splatoon is indeed popular and good. Good day to all those who kept throwing technicalities around at me when I pointed out to them that its every bit as popular as it seemed.

Look. It's very possible when you include digital, Splatoon has done 600k between just US and Japan.
That leaves only 400k for the rest of the world.
You need to keep in mind, that Splatoon is cheaper in Europe than it is in NA/Japan.
In the US, the game is like 60 bucks. Where as in the UK or France, it can be had for around 30 pounds/euros. Cheaper price could contribute to higher sales in Europe than it normally would have otherwise.
Sequel will probably be even bigger.
On nx of course.
From what I heard, this game was made in about a year.
Assuming the NX is coming in 2017, Splatoon 2 could be a launch title.
Oh, and now that I've actually checked the Tweet, I love how all the replies to it are "おめでとうございます"; it's like one of the few words I recognize in Japanese!Just announced via their Japanese Twitter account.

What is up with Nintendo and these short dev times?
Star fox was about a year too.
I hope they stick the current loadout system. It's refreshing not having to worry about min-maxing for a change, and I say that as someone that mains the Splash Wall .52 Gal but hates the Killer Wail. This game is already digi-crack and even then I can already see how much potential it has in the future. Bigger team sizes (or even multiple teams of 4), user defined loadouts, a "Mario Kart TV" style highlight real, more customization options (the ever requested pants, hairdos), local multi/co-op online, better functionality in lobbies, etc.(please be a beast of a system NX)
Where is my Judd plushie Nintendo
Where is it
I also think this validates Nintendo's Treehouse Live strategy. This game would not have sold as much as it has without those Treehouse demos, its safe to say.
