You people shit talking Majestic Prince will see. You'll all see. Team Majestic Prince is growing. I mean, we've got me, Tomat, Duckroll, DTL and I think a couple others already. We will spread this thing like a plague.

As far as trope/stereotype characters go, I liked ditzy, overexcited girl. I found her to be really funny here, while that archetype would just annoy the hell out of me in most shows.

Fond of the small mechanical details--the bridge retracting into the ship, and the Gunner's head locking and sliding onto the main gun stick out the most for me. The mecha look good and they do suitably mecha-things, like blowing each other up; in that regard, I am satisfied. I do think it's harder to convey a sense of speed and movement in space; CG has advantages of its own and the wildly flexible camera is one of them, but without the constraint of being rooted on ground, it doesn't quite have the acrobatic sense of Orange's work on Akito. (The gate is down, so on and so forth.)

That said some of the effects are so . . . flat. Not sure how they'd improve on it. Maybe making them look more stylized, aping 2D more.

As for the non-robot stuff, they're pretty boring. It's so set on being an introduction, and in its defense, I suppose, the cast is large and you're introduced to their individual quirks and their characteristically ugly Hiraifaces. The adults fare better, even folks like the good Mr. Smith with his bulbous, eggplant nose; their ugliness is more palatable, perhaps because the intent is more in line with the execution.

Guess I'll stick with it for now. Not sure how they'll handle the inevitable escalation of the conflict.

We'll see. If I like it, I'll say nice things.

If I don't, well, there's always Rah Xephon to keep it company.

You didn't even post the best nose in the show.

Majestic Prince 1

Pretty boring until the last few minutes, which were fuckawesome. Will keep up with for now.

I kinda had the opposite reaction. While the last part of the show looked cool when they went to fight everyone, the whole "Sword moves on its own" and "we're saving everybody" thing disappointed me every so slightly. I enjoyed the outcome anyway, but I almost thought they were going to take this "War sucks and not everything works out in the end" route.

I don't even know what you're talking about. Those super goofy, flat, strange expression faces like the one you posted are really funny. It may look weird in stills, but really works as part of the show.

Show certainly looks better in motion than it does in stills.

Hiraifaces are gross, let's focus on the mecha.

GUNNER #2 BROTIER BOT

I guess Leader is alright. The other two are zzz.

Also why do the female-piloted mecha lack limbs? Is this commentary of some sort???

I like that they actually included the spot for the head in the yellow robot. Nice touch.

I really like the main ship design in MJP. It has an attractive color scheme and interesting contours.

It has a lot of unconventional features. I really enjoyed that it didn't have the stereotypical gundam catapult system and each individual robot had a companion ship. That being said, that feature seems really impractical.

Ah, yeah, she does look shorter there. I guess Irisu is just taller for a Japanese girl as well then because you can she she's taller than Chitanda and shorter than Oreki but not that much shorter.

It's because Oreki slouches while Chitanda likes to stand on tiptoes whenever she gets in Oreki's face.

There's something about the character designs that I find really endearing in this show. It's like a combination of the kinda shitty designs of the 90's drawn in a clean, modern style. And there were a lot of great, varied character throughout, which made them interesting to look at.
Case in point:
Screw you, Duck! I was going to post that! Well you can't stop me!

YEAH!

I'm not really a mecha fan but the final fight scene was really something. Just technically and artistically impressive, with a lot of cool mecha, enemy and ship designs involved.
Definitely impressed.

Also could someone gif the yellow sniper mecha transformation? It looked super cool.

Going back to the MJP faces, I actually liked the exaggerated expressions that they had. It reminded me of the exaggeration in emotion that was shown in Little Witch Academia. Not nearly as high quality, but I appreciate it nonetheless.

They also remind me of some of Araragi's reactions in Bakemonogatari. I liked those too.

I like the entire concept of the ship. It makes a lot of sense, and feels a lot more... I don't want to say realistic but... maybe expansive? There's a main battleship which houses the command center and the pit ships. And instead of the mechs launching directly from the ship, they launch from their own pit ships which in turn houses the mechanics and weaponry for each mech. Having a main ship where everything launches and everything is kept and is always in the middle of battle is really myopic and generic. I dunno if this is more practical in reality, but it just feels more interesting.

Lastly, I probably shouldn't even have to ask, but this shot served no other purpose than fan service right? Guess this show gonna have some :chet in it. This shot seemed so random I couldn't help but laugh. ROBOTS ROBOTS ROBOTS ROBOTS GIRLS ASS ROBOTS.

It's laying down the foundation for a good back story.

I dunno. Those faces...it's as if Hirai Hisashi saw that SEED Destiny face comparison joke chart and is trying a bit too hard to prove a point about his style.

If the show was completely serious like a Gundam SEED show, the designs would fail miserably. As they are, they add to the humor. It feel like Hirai is actually in on the joke.

So how team #minmay are not the correct team guys, she and Hikaru very funny and kinky, also looked gonna have sex anytime, sounds ideal. Meanwhile everyone call Misa old hag.

Btw I can't decide who that more awesome, Focker or Gloval.

There's no triangle at this point of the show, if you stick with Minmay after stuff happens thats even worse than being on Team Ranka.

And Gloval is the fucking man!

Trust me by the end of the series there is -no- choice.

Minmay is fucking terrible. Misa is one of the best girls in the entire franchise, right up there with Sheryl.

Agreed to the fullest, Misa + Sheryl ftw while Minmay and Ranka are fail as fuck.

Majestic Prince #1 Hirai Hisashi sucks

I don't know... i don't think it was bad, but more than once i asked myself, "what am i watching?" Is it a comedy? Am i supposed to take it seriously? The first half and the interactions between the characters make me think the first option, but then the second half felt more action, plot-driven.

Very good Mecha porn, though. I hope the mechanics stick around.

This felt very weird and out of place, forced fanservice or fanservice out of nowhere is the worst. (it reminded me of those suddenly ass shots in the first 1 or 2 episodes of Guilty Crow)

I would expect something like this from Gargantia not this, it definitely didn't fit the tone of the show.

If only I wasn't on a gaming binge right now, I'd be marathoning this shit immediately.

Heh heh heh, awesome!

Super funny first ep. Sadao and Hanzo have a hilarious dynamic. Totally continuing this.

Definitely forced. I'm surprised to hear you would expect that out of Gargantia. I don't know much about that show either besides it being another robot show, but based on reading the the description in the OP it sounds like it'll have a semi-serious tone at least.

The fact that there is no green unit already makes this awful. That isn't even including the horrible name. That nose was some Tezuka level shit man. This may end up being a show where you need to turn off your brain to enjoy or some kind of guilty pleasure, either way it was only the first episode and there were already a bunch of crap that annoyed me.

Not sure if I'd classify that as blatant fanservice. Cept for Saaya's pose, the rest seem okay.
