Square Enix cancels Gun Loco (X360)

And Supreme Commander 2. Seriously, what the fuck was Chris Taylor thinking when he sold the IP to SQUEENIX?
Square Enix didn't design the game. It was still a Chris Taylor production. If I had to guess, he was thinking about how he could make an RTS in the franchise that would appeal to people that didn't have supercomputers. I guess it worked because it hasn't left the Steam most played list since it was released.

Front Mission and Mindjack, on the other hand, were completely boring and are already forgotten.

Had the title confused with Gun Head for a moment there.

It'd be nice if EA announced that game. It needs to happen.
EA canceled it (again) last year, sorry.

SE does have half a brain!

It baffles me that this was even green lit. Who was their target audience? Seems a bit too out there for the COD/Gears crowd.

It was being branded a Borderlands ripoff so... maybe the Borderlands crowd?

S-E needs to make me CEO.

I would green-light a new Legacy of Kain game. Evaluate the work done on that Fortress game to see if it can be made into a good game. Get more muscle behind Versus XIII and release that fucking game finally. Abort FFXIV and pretend it never existed. Green-light FFVII Remake. Re-hire Matsuno and give him everything he wants. Have Yoichi Wada fetch my coffee every morning.

SHould have been canceled ten seconds after someone put forth the idea.

I'm sure Brothersworker/Brothersfree/Kennyworks/Kenny Wong may have had something to do with it.

Which reminds me. What's his reaction? Does anyone follow him on twitter?

Does any of the development teams that made those classic RPG's from the NES to PS generation still work at squaresoft? Im mean jesus Square has become such a useless developer. Hero to F'n Zero.

Yes i said squaresoft

Haha.

Glad the game got cancelled though... it looked terrible, much like S-E's other "western" games.

Good question. A lot of them spun off to small independent studios like Genius Sonority and Mistwalker. Kagari keeps a good track of who is left and who fled to where.

lol..the fact that they even made a trailer for it is sad.

There were also character vignettes. Somebody got banned on the OT for quoting "I'VE GOT FUNK IN MY JUNK" and nobody knew what the hell the user was talking about.

No way! Gun Loco got cancelled!? Why?! How could you do this S-E? Me and thousands of other people were looking forward to this! :((((

I remember Tactics Ogre, Nier and TWEWY not selling too hot.
I was under the impression that TWEWY sold pretty decently actually, just that it was a slow burn for a while. I remember Square saying they were "pleased" with the sales at least. Or am I remembering wrong?

Oh thank heavens. This game looked horrible. I'm not going to plead for Square Enix to go back to making things I like, but at least I'm happy they won't humiliate themselves.

Hopefully no (innocent) employees were fired in the process.
You can't make expectations like this while at the same time shitting on the game - the saying "you can't have your cake and eat it too" is just perfect in this situation.

If they get fired, it's because they weren't doing their job correctly when they made such an abomination of a product.

That only goes so far.

Some people losing their job had no hand in why this game was so bad.

What I meant is that I hope no one on the non-creative side of the project is negatively affected by this.

Funny, SquareEnix Members had a contest to do the theme song for the game. The grand prize included a copy of the game...

This is probably Square Enix US' shortest "press release".

I thought the grand prize was 3000 bucks. The runner's up prize was a Xbox360 console and the game.

Maybe this is what the management at Squeenix thought Westeners enjoyed. Honestly, that's the scariest part of all this.

My god.

I have seen bad games, and then I have seen Gun Loco. Wow. A guy name Nuts just grabbed his nuts.

I mean look Square Enix as a name doesn't mean shit to me or a lot of gamers, but the fact that Square Enix was almost synonymous with this game, I don't think any game company could recover from a blow like that. Thank god someone in the producing department at Square had half a brain to abort this... this... this god forsaken holy abomination of a turd.

-edit- I JUST figured out this was going to be a full retail release, and not XBLA. Mind blown?

No KH3 = no support from me!

I have some faith they'll improve on XIII. They've had plenty of time and know what many fans expect.

Eagerly awaiting the first proper reveal.
