Square Enix party: more confirmation about a new game

So this really could be a FF anniversary project game? Wow. Never thought they'd milk the first game like this, more main FF spin-offs? Makes me fear what Tanaka has in store for FFIII on the DS. :\

Have you ever played a FF game?

Haven't seen this posted yet.

Apparently, guy on the right in the Dissidia logo looks like Amano's Chaos from FF1.

oh shit, man... good call!

so who's the chick? Shiva? Shiva vs. Chaos... my money's on Chaos. :D

Uh, yes, I have played modern Final Fantasy titles. Couldn't get all the way through XII, it was a pain.

Anyway, what annoys me most is that because the Wii is the weakest of the three, people act like it shouldn't get any epic titles. That's absolute bull to me.

I don't know for other games, but the modern Final Fantasy games place heavy emphasis on presentation which is better suited to the more powerful consoles this generation.

Am I, now? So the Playstation 2 was the most advanced piece of hardware last generation? That was the arguement, and I refuted it.

What's with this BU BU BU BU BU BU PS2 every other post? PS2 could pump out awesome looking games that, aside from certain graphical subtleties, could stand up to what was available on the GC and Xbox.

PS2 was weaker, but it wasn't that much of a step down from the GC or Xbox for Square to give a damn,

The two characters look like the artwork that was originally used in the newspaper ad a few weeks back. I said it was Chaos back then too... I really think this is gonna be some game that features chars from every Final Fantasy in some twisted theatrical production. Maybe like Odin Sphere but with FF chars?

I think you actually just forgot the big news of the thread you're posting in.
how many FF games get announced on the DS... i dont think a FF game is anything special anymore..

i was excited when i heard about FFTA2 though..

I never said that. I said the main FF games are known for being very tech driven (grafx) so they would work wonderfully on next gen plataforms. More so than on Wii.

Wow, who would have thought that people are talking about FF games to be good tech demos, instead of focusing on stuff that makes RPG's good like Storytelling, Character Development, Musical Score, Artstyle, and Battle Systems.

I remember back in the day when RPG's focused on those, instead of Cinematic Presentation.

The hypothesis I present is that numbered Final Fantasy appears first on the best selling console in Japan. Anyone offering an example to contest this?

The opposing hypothesis is that numbered Final Fantasy appears first on the most powerful console. Anyone have any evidence at all to support this? Does it ever fit the trend better than my hypothesis?

I am still down with the Final Fantasy dating sim idea.

I could see it now, Final Fantasy: Rumbling Hearts in Tokyo.

I remember when trailers for Super Mario Galaxy and Smash Brothers Brawl were shown. This was before we knew that the Wii would be a lot weaker than the other two. What's funny is, no one could tell the difference... Or at least, no one said anything.

At least, not that I remember. People seemed quite happy with it's visuals. It was only until after snippets started poping up about it being a lot weaker did people start to mock it.

To the normal person, the difference isn't that big. And this is Square-Enix we're talking about, they'll make it pretty no matter what.

It's worth noting that this is the first time Square's going to have to choose between front-of-the-pack graphics and supporting the overwhelming winner in Japan, though. So unpredictable this gen is, I love it.

Yep because older FF games were just hideous and were never applauded for their visuals.

FFVII to the PSOne.

No, but this is the first time a console is vastly behind the others in terms of power.

Its true!!!!

When I was 10 I never said, "damn this game is awesome because of the pretty graphics."

Of course I also liked sega back then.

I was under the impression that PSX led N64 and Saturn at the time FFVII was released. Am I wrong?

No, but this is the first time a console is vastly behind the others in terms of power.
That is only instructive assuming your hypothesis is true... and I don't.

I'm hope SE totally turns the tables with it and I get to play as Shiva, Ifrit, Bahamut, etc. FF with a twist.

I am still waiting for a Final Fantasy were you can play the villian and destroy the world.

Make it happen square (along with the dating sim idea).

I know, it is like watching a bad Soap Opera. You don't want to watch it, but it is there and you can't help but be drawn to it.

My word.

No, it wasn't. Matt C had leaked specs for months, and anyone with a brain bought into Shogmaster's claim that you could not fit PS360 class hardware inside the case they presented. It's impossible. It violates the laws of physics.

What's funny is, no one could tell the difference... Or at least, no one said anything.

Do I have to go dig up the threads?

At least, not that I remember.

Ah, maybe not.

Stop this utter nonsense.

you really do believe that Wii is in the same ballpark as 360 and PS3 graphically don't you.

Nobody in their right mind would believe something so incredbily wrong. That said, the Wii is quite a bit more powerful than the PS2, and nobody seemed to have a problem with FF XII, considering Gears of War was being played at the same time by many. I wouldn't mind a game to come out looking quite a bit better than what a 200mhz machine with no hardware t&l managed to impress me with a year or so back. The belief that only the PS360 hardware could bring beautiful, epic RPGs is fallable.

AMAZING in 1997. Mouths agape.

What are you trying to prove here?

Many N64 games beg to differ. Gorgeous CGI sequences don't count, either.

its not capable of HD, but it IS capable of some gorgeous visuals when devs take the time to do it.

I about shit my pants in December 1991 when I saw the Baron airships flying to Mysidia... and the first screens on FFVI I saw in Feb. 1994? Holy crapola... 256 colors at once on SNES? WHAT? UNPOSSIBLE! ;)

we could see a machine as small as the wii with 360 processing power in the next 5 years... but right now its impossible

Don't forget, I was on the Genesis side.

Graphics and sound doesn't matter, we got Sonic, blast processing, and Mortal Kombat uncut!!!

:D

* Cue a ton of people who've been remarkably uninterested in all the DS Final Fantasy games suddenly getting hyped.
* Cue a bunch of people flustered over why in the world this game is on the PSP and isn't on the DS.

Meanwhile a handful of people can just get genuinely interested!

I take it you're part of group 3, my dear?

some actually cant though. Ive heard in Ebgames some teens actually saying the wii graphics looked amazing and as good as the other two. I really wish I was making that up.
But a lot of people actually dont notice the differences unless theyre side by side compared, and even then it takes a while.

Back then, I thought FFIV looked really plain with tiny sprites, and FFVI looked pretty good for an RPG but still not that great compared to other 16bit games at the time. The games pushed tech, but not in the obvious ways that they have since.

Yes they are.

That is why I see people change 5 lanes on the freeway before their exit.

I can't believe we're having this discussion again.

Is it really the N-fan's fault that they are dominating worldwide sales in console and handheld and are still getting scraps. I would be pretty mad that it happened too. Heck, I am more mad about the fact that some jerk put it in my mind that we could have a Final Fantasy dating sim because that WOULD BE SO COOL.

I don't get what everyones problem is. Why is it a big deal if a company decides to put THEIR game on THEIR system of choice? Obviously they had a good reason to do so. There is no "LOL we sure got those DS/Wii/PS3/360 fans this time" when the decision is made.

And yes, sometimes a game company is always interested in the money. Sometimes they just want to make a good game and use what gives them that capability.
