It's obvious that they are saving the big announcements for Saturday and get the detritus out of the way. :lol

Nothing's change.

who is Kitase?

Seriously, I dont know.

The FFXIII producer. Also producer/director of FFX and FFVIII and probably SE most valued asset left in the company.

I did not know Kitase hated Nintendo, although his usually works the PS plataforms and loves to create big, cinematic productions, something that wont work with the current Wii and DS climates.

Kawazu on the other, could be in charge of a FFXIII project, although he is quite busy with the Ivalice Alliance...

Why is everyone so surprised? From the February issue of EGM:

Square Enix is whipping up a wild line-up for PSP this year… These guys are serious too! I’m talking new games, remakes of old classics, and an all-new, unexpected Final Fantasy spin-off that will make the fanboys flip.

didn't they say Nintendo fans will be very happy?
We're always very happy. Our clouds smile.

I still dont understand what people see in Final Fantasy. any of them. except maybe 7. I actually liked that game. But everyone did so it doesnt count. Why is FF such a hugely popular franchise and the plethora of other RPgs arent? What does it do differently?
Im genuinely inquisitive.
It does what RPGs do... well, and with production values. Or at least, that's the reason we were initially drawn to it, and now it's a familiar and (relatively) safe name to sell and set of familiar item/magic/monster naming conventions to use.

And he hates Nintendo?...

Why?...

That is because the Wii is not PS3.

Who am I kidding? If the Wii was PS3 lite the console still wouldn't see something from Kitase. For some reason he just doesn't like Nintendo.

kitase really hates nintendo...why ?

Final Fantasy VI?

Kitase was just an assistant for FFVI if I am correct, he got his big break with FFVII and and even bigger one with FFVIII. After that he's been in charge of the major FF games (except XII).

Well, that was Shane right? I think everyone just rolled their eyes when that was originally printed. He said the same thing on the podcast too.

He co-directed FFVI with Itou (FFIX), evidently responsible for a good portion of the game. He helped convince Sakaguchi that the series should take larger, more emotional risks. He also co-directed Chrono Trigger.

Final Fantasy VI Advance? :)

Other than remakes it's not like Square has been very prolific on Nintendo systems until recently, so it's hard to spot much in the way of trends. Crystal Chronicles, Tactics Advance, Egg Monster Hero, that Chocobo Dice GBA game...

I dont think Kitase hates Nintendo, we dont really have anything in the records that say or even hint at a dislike for Nintendo.

Its just that his work tends to more oriented to the Playstation experience. Big, cinematic productions are not something related to Nintendo plataforms. He is also very into advancing the technology as well as the storytelling fronts thus making the PS plataforms the ideal place for his works...

Ugh, it would just do so much better on the DS financial-wise, and it would be better for ME (ME ME ME) financial-wise, so I just have one thing to truly say... why? :( I'm a fanboy with a low-budget and a girlfriend, so bite me.

there goes 200$...

Wait what is this PSP game? I tried to go onto the website but it wont load. I was just about to leave my house to go sell my PSP, but I decided to check GAF before I left to make sure no new games had been announced and what a coincidence! So can someone explain what is going on.

*waits for new Chris Michael thread about 3rd parties*

It's a PSP game with the FF name... that's all we need to know!

Probably it's a better system for the kind of game they want to make?

I'm a fanboy

Admitting a problem is the first step.

Do we even have any idea how this game is gonna be? It could do a FFXII: RW and be mediocre at best.

see what I dont get is why just because the bar has been raised to HD/more cinematic gaming for Ps3/360, and considering that the Ps2 got these same types of games last gen, why do people say the Wii cant handle such a game? If Ps2 can handle a cinematic FF game the wii sure as hell can. And it could look pretty damn good to boot.

Yeah, that was Shane. Here's what he's said on the podcast:

Shane said:
"This isn't the end of Square Enix's bizarre love affair with the PSP. There's more s**t coming. The 20th anniversary of Final Fantasy is not over and you'll be really surprised by some of the stuff you'll see later this year (emphasis added) ... You're not going to see a remake of Final Fantasy VII on PSP, but you will see some exciting, unexpected Final Fantasy games on PSP."

"There's specifically one PSP game that nobody could ever guess ever that will blow everybody away."

Notice the plural.

Mark my words, there's going to be a Kingdom Hearts PSP; you can have my word for it.
that's ok you can enjoy Square Enix 30 or something non games for the DS.

Fool, we are talking about the PSP, Wii is last gen.

Because the biggest selling Wii games (Wii Play, Sports) are exactly the opposite of what SE has been trying to achieve with all the mainline FF games.

Would it work? Yes. But would the majority of the Wii audience (grandmas and stuff) embrace it?

when I said grandmas I meant casuals and non-gamers :)

Their fanbase will go where ever the FF games are (though I have to wonder about XIII), it really doesn't matter.

Put it on the cheaper console, more people can buy it. Simple really.

how bout SE announcing what I want and give me the Loto Trilogy remake with the DQ8 engine... that'll be so hot I would melt instantly.
