Square Enix party: more confirmation about a new game

Holy shit, 95% of this entire thread is "please be on 360," "please be on DS," "please be on Wii," "please be on PS3."

Do you people actually have any interest in playing games? Think Square Enix could make a quality product on a system not of your choosing?

Of course not. Only by using the unique and awesome functionalities of the DS can SE create truly great games.

...

I just want my FFVII, FFVIII and FFIX ports/remakes/whatevers.

The thing is certain games are better on certain systems since they're unique now (unlike previous generations where it was only about fanboyism)

the next-gen systems, the wii, the psp and the ds all offer different experiences. If you want hi-fidelity graphics that would match up with a FFVII remake, then the next-gen systems is where it's at. If you create a more interactive game, like something like DQ Swords could only be done on the Wii. Then in handhelds, the difference is almost the same thing.

So imo, it doesn't make sense for someone to want DQ Swords on the PS3 and FF7 remake on the Wii. FF7 Remake should go to PS3 or 360 and DQ Swords should stay on the Wii. These are just my example games, but you can go through the list and point out which games would be better on the Wii vs PS3/360. Like for example, I think ARPGs would be awesome on the Wii after having played Zelda.

New DQ for Wii. Mark my words.

DQ 9 is coming to DS.

I reckon it'll be FF 14 for Wii. (If not sooner, then at least later.)

It makes sense considering S-E's recent musings on the cost of developing FF13, to the extent that they're considering making it multi-format. Not to mention the seemingly dozens of cheap cash-ins/spin-offs from the main series (not counting the high-quality Nintendo exclusive CC series) they've been producing as to rake in some quick cash.

This argument would hold a lot more validity if we had the slightest idea what the game is even going to be about in the first place.

Would you people seriousely want FF14 on the Wii?

I mean sorry, but I don't see how the strengths of the Wii would compliment Final Fantasy but I can see how the disadvantages would hurt the game (from a gamer's perspective).

Could someone give me a non-sales based opinion on why you would want Final Fantasy 14 or 7 Remake on the Wii over the PS3/360?

Because I own a Wii, and not a 360/PS3?

That's a good enough reason for me. :lol

FF 14 would compliment the Wii perfectly. Take away some of the randomness, introduce one-handed Wiimote control, and maybe add some free on-line. Also consider the fast growing userbase, much lower development costs, much shorter development times, and Nintendo fans still feeling left out from the SNES days. Clearly S-E would be on to a winner.

How do you reckon the Wii would hurt the game? (And we're all gamers, aren't we? Otherwise we wouldn't be on GAF.)

It's obvious you don't play final fantasy games. But I feel for you, it must be hard to be excited for games only when they're on one specific platform. I feel for you.

As long as FF13 isn't on the Wii I am okay with it.

Porting a gorgeous game to a console that can't even handle the model for one character is not a good idea. On the other hand, making a game from the ground up to take advantage of the Wii isn't that bad of an idea, especially since SE can to great things with limits.

Just look at Crisis Core for the PSP and how it kills everything else on the handheld. If they can do that for the PSP, they could surely push the Wii to levels that would make other developers cry.

Final Fantasy is about story-driven gameplay since FFVI. Graphics, Sound, Music all compliment to that style of game. When the game is able to present more breath-taking environments and realistic character emotion, it lends itself to a better story-driven experience.

If you don't want story-driven gameplay, then there's a whole series of other games out there that lend themselves more to the

Why would you want lower production values as a gamer for a series that has always been about pushing the production values of gaming in general?!

Tell me how the wiimote would help FF1 to 12 in any way?

Despite this, the vast majority of Final Fantasies have been disappointments in the story-telling department (I say this as one making a comparison to other videogames.) I'm not really sure how FFXIII, with it's Shivacycle, is going to fare here.

Yes, but FF 14 would be a different game altogether, built from the ground up for the Wii. They could keep the intricate story telling and yet make it Wii-tacular.

To quote from another thread...

"IT SHOULD BE ON WII! THERE'S MORE WII OUT THERE! WAGGLE WIBBLE!"

:D

It will be the first time a Final Fantasy installment would have looked worse than the previous installment.

The story is not the only thing that changes from game to game.

Well that's your opinion, and if they were disappointments, why would you even want to play it then? So Final Fantasy to Wii should be a moot point for you as a gamer? Wouldn't you want an original IP from Square for the Wii that would make full use of the unique aspects of the console... like maybe an action RPG with point to point sword slashing controls and movement like Zelda? I mean that sounds better than having a low production Final Fantasy for the Wii. Don't you agree?

What about FF versus XIII on the Wii then?

To forestall the obvious reply: you may not care about graphics/presentation. Many of us do, especially in a FF game.

Especially since it's the only thing they have going for them anymore.

I am down with that, although they should make the chick with all the buckles the lead character.

It saddened me to see the trailer, then to find out later that she isn't the lead.

I play(ed?) FF for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the gameplay.

Now, I am not advocating that FFXIV goes to the Wii or whatever. I'm simply claiming your point that Final Fantasy's storytelling prowess would be significantly blunted by it's move to Wii is an exaggeration.

:(

Anyway, I kind of hope it's a revival of one of their old franchises. :D

AND OMG PLEASE BE FOR NGAGE

Perhaps gamefront is a little to blame with their slight inaccuracies here, but GAF, as usual, is totally blowing this out of proportion :/ It's probably just an anime version of one of their manga in Gangan, or a game related to it. Those voice actors are not FF-level. Also Mizuki Nana is a voice actor on this project - the two theme song artists are not revealed yet (the very fact that there are two groups making theme song kind of gives away the fact that it's an anime too...)

I feel you man, the gameplay and stories really took a nosedive when they moved away from Nintendo platforms, right? And I can't believe how much FF12 sucked, only won 2 GoTY awards, average score 93%...

But don't worry, FF14 will come to Wii, and then FF games will finally be worth playing again.

The PS3 Final Fantasy XIII will also only be the second time the series has appeared on a console that's not the dominant one, the other being VII. But it's impossible for XIII to have the same effect that VII did, so we'll simply have to wait and see the effects the big Final Fantasy games have on the smallest-marketshare console.

It's an amazing coincidence, I know. I think they just stopped trying once they realized that spikey hair + angst = profit.

Cranky. Very cranky.
Rather sarcastic to boot.

That aside, trusting review sites on the quality of an FF game is walking through a minefield. We're talking the same sites that gave FFTA higher scores than 50%.

A statistical outlier! FF is always quality! Even Dirge of Cerberus!

Don't you guys want them to make a new IP?

I mean, with all the talent they have at Square Enix, churning out endless amounts of FF games and spin offs just seems like a waste of their talents to me.

Well, I don't care about high fidelity graphics as much as I care about general character design and style (and I kind of hate FF13's designs), so I'm hoping Square will develop AWAY from the FF13 look (this also includes the FF12, FF11, and FF10 look--I am just TIRED of these more realistic styles right now). Something along the lines of those FMV scenes from FFT PSP for character models would be fun.

I haven't really enjoyed an FF since FF9 (the FF3 remake was okay). Maybe a FF14 being on the Wii will help facilitate Square to make a big change (or one of those FF13 branches would be okay too. I just don't want all of them sticking tot he same style).

But a new IP would be cool too. Maybe something like high fantasy in outer space, like planet hopping and visiting different solar systems and having to learn each planet's magic system (then whatever planet is considered the "best" or is a fan favourite, they can make a spinoff game from..?). :)

We're not discussing porting FF 13 to the Wii.
