Star Trek Into Darkness Superbowl spot

Cumberbatch is
John Harrison
. Sorry to spoil the fun.

Nope.

Harrison is a red shirt from a few episodes of TOS. Its a red herring.

April's Gatling Gun was seen in concept art for the movie by people who visited the set but again it could be intentionally misleading. So it could be Robert April a guy from the star trek animated series who was the first captain of the enterprise before pike.

Gary Mitchell is making more and more sense.

Nice to know this guy is still in.

Bzzzt. Wrong.

The first one wasn't, so why would this shitfest be?
Yes. I felt like I was losing IQ points watching that drivel.
I can't tell, did you like it?
Like the teaser, but dear God, the "I'm such a diabolical villain that I will allow myself to be caught just so I can escape" trope needs to be retire for a while to recharge.
Why did you have to point this out? I was so content before considering this. Shit is everywhere...

Loki, the Joker and Bane without even leaving the superhero genre...

It's been revealed. JJ has said his name, the name is in the iOS app. Not sure why there is speculation at this point.

And bought my ticket via the Star Trek app. Friend in Europe bought me the STiD Empire issue and hopefully I'll be getting it in the mail soon.

Hype increasing.

A classic example of missing the point, this post is.

It's just a name. For all you know they could use the name "Gary Mitchell" and then do something completely different than TOS did. Or his name could be Khan and they could do something completely different than STII. This is Abrams/Lindelof you're talking about here.

Because its a red herring. Why would the new villain be someone who played a very minor role in TOS.

The "I am better" quote fits perfect with Gary Mitchell and as iv previously said people have seen the weapon shown in the trailers listed as Aprils Gatling gone in production art.

From day 0 JJ has been cagey with who Cumberbatch's character is.

Everything's going right over your head. It's all just fun speculation. One of the writers said the antagonist is a character from the original series. So, we're speculating on what character can fit the bill of an enemy to Kirk, and what that means for the story of STID based off the original series. It's a character.

If it's a completely new character but with the same name, then why keep the name? There's no point. Obviously whoever it is, the character will bear some semblance to his counterpart in TOS because they have the same name. Also, because JJ and crew don't have much of an imagination.

I made a lot of guesses in the old thread, my favorite one being Zefram Cochran. That would be crazy. Here's a new one though: David Marcus, 'cept he's evil now.

how silly I didn't know this new guy might be named after a real person

Time-travel referencing historical figures is definitely Star Trek

Not a fan of the Enterprise getting thrashed after only one movie. That's movies though.

Kinda disappointed that they're going with another "evil villain" plot but the first one was a shit load of fun. Can't wait to see it. I've given up hope that there will ever be a Star Trek movie with any kind of depth though.

Well, in terms of androids we already know Joseph Gatt is playing an android in it.

Wait, really? Man, are they going to make any attempt to explain how that makes any sense at all in the context of current Trek canon? An android in Kirk's time is like having the Borg suddenly show up

(someone is going to remind me about a TOS episode with an android, aren't they?)

Assuming you mean in terms of technological advancement, there's little that needs to be addressed in that arena. The timeline is irreparably forked. If it makes you feel better to have a plot hole glue-gun, Nero's ship brought back oodles of "way too far in the future" technology

edit: hah funny you mentioned the borg specifically

To me, "I am better," hints at
Gary Mitchell. Dude thought he was better than everyone because of dem super powers he acquired. That was the basis of the conflict involving him.

Its just that sentient androids have always been presented as a one in a million fluke that Soong discovered and never could work out mass production for. It would be a bit jarring if now in this new timeline someone else just does it a few hundred years earlier, but eh, the more I think about it the more I'm alright with it

Having androids doesn't bother me. They can teleport from a planet while they're in warp. Technology is skewed in this universe compared to the original timeline.

That's absolutely a good point, but he wouldn't have to be sentient just to be played by a human actor. That's kind of a wash.

Maybe Abrams and Lindelof have been lying to you the entire time because maybe speculation is pointless and they don't want crazy ST nerds dissecting every detail of the movie's plot before it came out and building all kinds of absurd expectations about what a movie they haven't even seen should be!

Maybe!

Probably not though. Just seems too far-fetched for this new timeline.
