Whoever creates the official thread (should be possible to do so now, game is less than a week out) should put the name of the new GAFleet, along with the names of the invite-able officers in the OP. Ideally, a complete list of members, their names, and their current activity (active or inactive account) would be in the OP.

Exploration Cruiser at Captain Rank.

The Galaxy class is nice looking, but it's really slow and turns slow. It really doesn't matter too much in a battle as you have a large amount of weapon slots all over the ship. I really want to get a Defiant Class myself. They move like a light escort, can take a terrific pounding and have some of the best weapon slots in the game. Then get the Rapid fire cannon skill. :D

The Defiant class sounds more appealing, at least from a combat POV, but still...something about the galaxy glass I will always love, and would definitely spend a lot of time flying around in one :)

I get the same feeling from the Constitution Class Refit from the movies. When I got that ship in game I was in heaven.

Aaaaanyhow, they really need to rename the "Rear Admiral" rank to "Commodore". It gives them far more scope to expand later on and prevents us having the silliness of thousands of Admirals flying around. Even better would be to have Lt. Jr Grade as the first rank and have Captain as the current cap. That way they have Commodore, Rear Admiral and Admiral to expand into.

Also the starting ships should be re-worked.

Start: Runabout
lv5: Kelvin-style frigate
lv10: Light Cruiser [i.e. current starting ship]

And then spread out some of the others.

I know, the science classes are more conducive to my playstyle, but....damn man, its a frickin Galaxy class!

Right now, Escourts are overpowered because they kill things really fast with their high DPS, can turn really fast, and there is no death penalty so they can just keep rushing in and dying as long as they kill something before they die.

Cruisers are a bit gimped because they turn super slow, and their warp cores can't support firing all weapon slots full of beam arrays. Their extra hull doesn't help them live for too much longer, and since there is no penalty for death, it's not really worth it except for the beauty of the ships.

Science Vessels are better tanks than Cruisers because they have more shields and they regenerate faster. Science Vessels also turn faster, so they are in every way superior to Cruisers except they have 1 less weapon slot, but that doesn't matter because their average DPS is probably the same or better due to their better turn rate.

there is no commodore in the US navy. it is rear admiral lower and rear admiral upper. that is still 4 more ranks to achieve (or 40 more levels). and being that the ship designations are USS it makes sense that they would stick with US conventions.. not that it's superior or anything. or if they just combined rear admiral into one rank (stupid) they'd still have 30 levels ahead of them.

Well, USS is - while based on US designations - supposed to refer to United-Federation Star Ship.

And there have been Commodores in Star Trek!

So what if the US doesn't use it anymore? It's perfect!

I was going to do it today, but I can wait. I already made a header.

What do you guys think? If you want, you can use it.

We have to know who is going to recreate gafleet. Preferrably someone (along) with five others tomorrow so we can get setup early. I won't be on until around 4:30est. If we haven't setup the fleet by then I'll start pooling people together.

I strongly feel that the creator and officers should be lifetime subs (if there are enough on GAF) to ensure that they'll be around past 3 months.

Agreed, they can always create more officers and the like if they're needed.

I'll be on tomorrow between 5-7 CST and playing all weekend. I have a lifetime sub and can hook up with other lifetime subbers to create the GAFleet tomorrow.

Also, just wanted to clarify that people have until 2/6 to input their retail key in order to keep playing beyond head start. Yesterday I said 2/8, but it was just clarified.

In that case I think you should! Mine hasn't even been drafted yet! :D

But I don't think I can make the additions you guys are planning like the fleet and stuff. I suggest you use that, and then continue on from there.

Just to confirm, you can or cannot use pre-ordered bonuses in HS?

Considering that I was planning on using my Joined Trill bonus as my captan, if I can't, than theres no real reason to head-start.

pre-order bonuses canNOT be used in the headstart.
pre-order bonuses CAN be applied to your characters retroactively when you activate your copy.
Joined Trill canNOT be used during the headstart or retroactively.
Liberated Borg Captain from Lifetime bonus CAN be used during the headstart.

Me or my wife (we're sharing an account) will probably be on at around the time Headstart begins and for most of the day. We also have a Lifer sub, so look for us DoctorWho when you're resetting up GAFleet. :D

Anyone here with Gamestop pre-orders? I original ordered it from Gamestop last week during the Beta. Then a friend told me I should have got a code for the beta and the early start. I went back today and sure enough I got the card, but i can't see anywhere on startrekonline.com to enter in the code. Maybe it was tied to the beta only?

Any ideas?

*sigh* which means I'll be waiting until after HS to jump in. No point in playing for three days just to reroll when I'm done.

It didn't strike them as odd that two of their preorder bonuses were mutually incompatible? (Trill and HS acess)

You can apply the Pre-order bonus's to the existing character(s) from the head start? Thats awsome! (with the exception of the Joined Trill)

That sounds like a good idea. I guess as long as we have one life time sub to lead the team in the initial creation that should be fine. I still haven't decided if I'm going to be a lifer yet. Might give in tomorrow.

How many lifers do we have on GAF?

EDIT: Just logged into the launcher now. 58mb patch to download. I'm trying to keep up with any patches they might be releasing before tomorrow.

Will I be able to use my Wrath of Khan Admiral's uniform in the headstart? That isn't a preorder bonus.

Also, Willy's banner is great!!!

So...what does it take to get a Galaxy class ship? What rank? How many energy credits?

/nerdy-bits-tingling

Captain Rank, 150,000 credits. It's not too hard to achieve if the game isn't tweaked from the way it was at the end of OB.

It turns and moves a little slower than the other two ships at its rank but it's to balance it out. Exploration Cruisers get more Engineering slots, more engineering abilities, and a lot more weapon slots all over the place.

Granted, the ExCruiser doesn't really turn that slow. Aux helps to determine your turn speed and if you have a good Aux value in your combat stance, you can turn fairly decently. There are also turn rate increasers as well.

I cant bring myself to do a lifer >.< I really want to but its expensive! haha I am afraid this game might not last for very long, even though I want it to.

Add your pre-order key to your account and then the lifetimesub should be available to you.

I dunno where the hell to buy this game from. All these pre-order deals spread out just upsets me -.- Whats the best one?

I think the Amazon preorder bonus with the Borg BOff is best, it's likely to last you all the way through the game.

I got a collectors edition to look at and not touch, I know this isn't Blizzard, but being trek it might appreciate (my copy of Bridge Commander shot to $200 at the time I sold it).

I also bought a Steam CE to play.

Welp, off to watch some TNG to pass the time...

Im thinking of just getting the STEAM one. I wonder how well steam will work with a MMO.

I got Champions Online through Steam, never had any problems with it.
Patches for the mmo are made directly from the MMo launcher, not updating through Steam.

On an unrelated note I saw this funny video while browsing the STO forums http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWyxZR69CI0.
Loveboat is a nice name for a ship :lol

Hello all :D

As this is my first post on GAF I thought this would be the best place to start.

I've just finished the open beta on STO and picked up a lifetime account (similar to what I already have on LOTRO). Though in GAF terms I currently hold the same rank as a tribble, I hope to see you all in warp space over the next few days.

Look out for Larc... and long live the Federation! ;)

Don't mind helping to start the fleet out, got my life time sub all done and I will be on for the beginning of headstart which is 4 hours 53 minutes away (just incase anyone managed to forget :D )

Which Borg? Amazon Boff isn't available at start, but the captain is provided you're a lifer.

Lifetime sub - I read the official forums and some said no bonuses with headstart. By the way - the STO forums are a mess, a big, big mess.

Yes they are a mess, they were 100 times worse last week tho, I can go there now without my eyes starting to bleed.

But yes its confirmed by the dev's that the borg will be available from the lifetime sub as that is controlled by them, for all the other bonuses you need the codes from the retailer you bought from.

Basically it goes by what's activated on your account. So if you have the del taco or admirals outfit codes already on your account those are available. But because the exclusives are part of the retailer's copy that is dated for the 2nd, they won't be able to be added to your account until then.

Do we know if there's going to be penalties for character death in game from now on?

It seemed strange to have zero repercussions as your ship was blown into a million tiny pieces during the Beta.
