Star Wars Battlefront - EPISODE VII's Jakku Gameplay Video

I felt this game was a step above others in terms of photo-realism. It almost looked like I was watching a movie at times. Uncharted still looked game-y as did Horizon, but they also both looked beautiful and had more detail and interaction with the environment. I'm excited for the future of games.

This demo looks incredible. I'm very impressed with their new engine! I gotta give credit to Lucasfilm though... they probably made the assets match so well the originals.

Is it just me or does the graphics look way better in this video:

The hoth video just looks like BF4 graphics
Only one actually claims to be on PS4 via disclaimer, and it's the worse looking one. The HUDs are different and the one on Tatooine which didn't actually say it was PS4, has very prominent static PS4 buttons while the definite PS4 video only had them show up in a couple of contextual spots. We know that the Witcher 3 and Arkham teams have shown PC footage with PS4 buttons, so I'm not convinced that the better-looking Tatooine video is PS4 since there's no disclaimer.

As someone who loved Battlefront 1 and Battlefront 2 singleplayer and bot matches, seeing this as the bot game/singleplayer stuff...it's incredibly disappointing. I don't want a horde mode, I want an actual match. It's good for EA that the actual multiplayer looks so good otherwise I wouldn't be slightly interested in this game.

Yeah I agree, I still think it looks great on the either way, but one clearly looks better than the other and it has no disclaimer, wouldn't be the first time it's happened, especially at e3. Just glad they did show a direct feed video of ps4 period.

DICE is just on another man...

Graphically looks a step above everything else ive seen on console so far. Game looks insanely immersive.

Probably the most impressive reveal I've seen this show. Uncharted looks great but it looks like another Uncharted game, not surprisingly. I'll play it and buy it, but damn, this looks incredible.

There will be a variety of single-player/co-op modes. Survival is just one of them. Hopefully, one is more instant-action like.

Is Frostbite forward or deferred rendered?

It was tile based deferred renderer, we dont know if they migrated to forward+ or some hybrid in Battlefront though.
I dont think they are using forward+, because it is very problematic to use area lights in it and Battlefront will use them.

We are still primarily deferred rendered with our heavily expanded tile-based lighting compute shader, but we also have forward rendering for transparent surfaces with full lighting.
Was this co-op footage PC using PS4 prompts or is it PS4? It doesn't appear to be the same build as the Hoth demo that explicitly stated it was PS4 (different HUDs, etc.)

Please let us know what platform the canyon video was from ! Please for the love of Darth !

So this was posted on the Facebook page of Battlefront

Looks like that "ps4 video" wasnt from a PS4?

Because that Coop footage has the PS4 button prompts in the HUD, but nothing in the Hoth gameplay.

The Hoth demo was PS4, we don't know about the co-op video in this thread from Tatooine. A separate clip posted on an unofficial account doesn't discredit the Hoth demo at all. In the Hoth demo, you also clearly see some PS4 button prompts contextually, just not statically placed in the HUD. This is different from the Tatooine co-op video HUD which leaves PS4 buttons always visible but the video never has a disclaimer that it is actually PS4.

Since you're here I have a suggestion :D

You know that ui.drawenable command you implemented in Frostbite? It would be cool if you could bind it to a key, so you can switch the HUD on and off on the fly.

So basically you could type something like this in the console:

Bind ui.drawenable H

And then H is your hotkey.

Uncharted's visual direction was an artistic one.

They aren't trying to be overly photo realistic.

I agree that Battlefront is absolutely bonkers though.

wait what, the footage shown by Sony might be PC footage, even though it had ps4 button symbols?

this can't STILL be happening.. :( please tell me i wasn't fucking fooled again, or i'll feel like a damn chump. again.

I'll believe it when I see it. Button prompts mean nothing these days. Remember Batman last E3 DURING the Sony conference? That was on PC. Also that HUD needs to go.

I knew next to nothing about this game prior to E3.
Actually I havent even watched the Star Wars movies...

I was blown away by Battlefront, it's just incredible. The graphics, the sound, it was really my E3 "what the fuck is that?" moment. Like how I felt with the first Uncharted 2 trailer I watched. Actually not even UC4 got me like Battlefront.

And this is out in November ?!
DICE I'm speechless.

Really hope it will look the same come November

i think it's easy to claim that Dice's engine is the best looking engine out there. have you guys seen mirror's edge catalyst?

Considering Frostbite tools have completely replaced CGI reveals for EA's flagship franchises, yes, it's clear Frostbite is a marvel in and out of realtime visuals. It looks stunning.

EA's Frostbite growth has put them at the forefront of multiplatform tech. Every studio working and iterating on the engine in various art styles, settings, and genres have allowed it to become fully featured, flexible, and easy to use. It's a brilliant move. On top of that there are no licensing fees and more accessible tech support that can focus on a specific issue.
