Star Wars Battlefront II |BETA| Execute Pre-Order 66

I enjoyed what I played but it feels really weird on console. Your character feels like its running close to 60 fps but everything else in the world feels like 30 fps. That doesnt make a whole lot of sense but I cant put my finger on it. Is this a frame pacing issue?

Uh what's the consensus here? My one game was absolute trash. The droid enemies blend perfectly with the environment in Theed. Just getting shot from enemies I can't see the whole game. While the movement is slow and clunky. It was like the absolute worse version of battlefield.

The consensus is that there is no consensus. Some prefer the gunplay of the first one and the same amount prefer the second one. People think it's too much like Battlefield which is somehow a bad thing and some think that it's still not enough Battlefield. And then you have gameplay/graphics/performance complaints which are all over the place since you don't know if they're talking about console controls or pc.

This is basically what people were wanting from this sequel though from all the people that hated the original, I found the original fine, it was easy, fast, simple and quick to pick-up and play.

It is a real shame :/

Naw, the real shame was the first one not being fun to play at all.

Reading this thread makes me genuinely wonder: is anyone who played (and liked) Battlefront 1 enjoying this one? Just out of curiosity lol

I never played the first one so I can't make any comparison, but so far I'm really enjoying my time with this, to the point that I just placed my pre-order. Starfighter assault is so fucking amazing

Loved BF1. Will never buy this. Definition of "meh".

The Call of Duty studios would be a way better fit for me. Then again I don't like vehicle stuff in this or Battlefield.

I'm liking it a lot so far. It feels very fluid and the gunplay is good.I think my favorite game mode will easily be the arcade with the potential customization that it offers, playing against the AI is mindless fun. Not a huge fan of online mp after giving it a few shots, but that's just me.

Oh man that Han Solo voice sounds rough, I'm not looking forward to hearing Vader after the first game as he also sounded off.

How are EA the Star Wars video game developer and these are the best voices they could come up with.

Pretty decent shooting.

Quite dazzling with a bit too many effects going on.

Most of all though, fuck those Star Cards. They give severe bonuses to people who have them. It's pay-2-win. A player who is new has jackshit compared to people with longer playtime (or money) who have modded their weapons to be better and have Star Cards that make their powers objectively better than your powers. That is not acceptable to me in a skill-based game.

I never understood why they can't just sample lines from the movies. Seems like a no brainer

The constant and egregious stutter is starting to get to me (on Xbox One).

Also, just.. fuck heavies. Annoying meatshields that just rip heroes to shreds, I had one shoot me while I was force choking him!

Did get a 40 kill killstreak on Maul though, including 3 dead Reys. He is an animal.

F heavies because they're OP and kill heroes, followed by "I got a 40 kill streak as a hero".

Sounds like the other team needed more heavies.

My most hated things developers dump on/into otherwise possibly enjoyable games these days:
1. Chromatic aberration
2. Loot boxes

Needless to say I'm passing on this one.

I ordered Battlefront 1 on the back of playing the BETA (Walker Assault on Hoth was and still is amazing) I had the season pass and I put in hundreds of hours into it.

I don't like this BETA at all, maybe it is just the BETA map, but Walker Assault on Hoth was showing the first game in it's best light and if this map is showing this sequel in it's best light then hmmm, the ships in this sequel act very different to the first game, to the point where they are just weird to control.

The original was simple, easy to pick up and play and just a fun blast (no pun intended) this from the BETA this sequel is much more of a chore, to the point where I am most likely going to cancel my pre-order.

I am not going to comment on the loot-boxes.

Naw, the real shame was the first one not being fun to play at all.

Are you finding this sequel fun? I am not, it feels and plays like a different game to me, probably going to pass on this, going to give the BETA more play-time though to see if I can get it to gel.

I spent about 90 minutes with Starfighter Assault.

It just doesn't seem very good.

They took away the quick evasive manuevers and easy-U turns, which makes doubling back a big hassle now.

The relatively generous auto aim is gone.....you pretty much have to lead everything yourself. This is made worse by the fact that many ships have blasters that overheat quite fast....so any missed shot puts you at an ever-increasing disadvantage.

Tracking and damage on torpedoes does not seem as good as it used to be.

The Starfighter game mode itself just isn't as fun as it was in BF1. I don't really enjoy the never-ending series of objectives. I feel like I'm never dogfighting -- I'm either sniping people who are trying to get at the objective or being sniped while I'm trying to get the objective.

These are mostly good changes. I think the troop gameplay has suffered from Battlefront 2015 but the starfighter combat is much better. Original game it was pick A-wing or TIE Interceptor and win.

Why can't I play with friends. The friends tab always says 0 online.

Invite them in the PS4 party menu, via "play together". That's a workaround.

Does anyone else think they need to boost the officer severely? The support buffs don't make up for the lost firepower at all, especially in matches with random matchmaking and no organized groups.

They are pushing the microtransactions way too hard. Game itself feels okay but very tepid compared to other stuff out there. Overall, i'm disappointed in the beta. Will see what reviews and early impressions are of the final game but i've cancelled my preorder :(

It may seem like a good idea until it occurs to you that the Starfighter missiles, laser cannons, etc have only been nerfed so that they can be buffed by overlaying the awful Star Card system onto a game mode that didn't originally have Star Cards. Now you have to grind just to get weapons that were as useful as the default ones were in the prior game.

The removal of the quick evasion/U-turn is really befuddling to me. A lot of players were probably quite used to that.

Enjoyed from what I've played, love the wacky droids. Game looks spectacular and pumped everything thing up to ultra and played super smooth, ironically the moment the screen or box opening animals appear the game drops to 10 fps.

Definitely going to be using the full 10 hours of EA access trial time before committing to this one. The arcade stuff was kinda fun, and I'm interested in the campaign, but if the multi doesn't grab me in the trial, this game won't have the legs for me to buy it.

I really want to like this game. But something is just off and I can't put my finger on it. Cancelled my pre-order.

I'll probably play the campaign whenever it hits Access next year.

I'm liking it, reached level 10 pretty fast. The battle/rocket droid seem pretty OP. I think my favourite class is Specialist. Some things need to be changed/fixed though including the awful space controls.

Will still wait for reviews though.

They should change the criteria for the post-game "top players" screen. Right now it seems to be focused on kills/combat more than anything, which seems antithetical when playing an objective mode like Galactic Assault. I landed five or six shots on the MTT alone in one game (which or may not be a lot, but it was getting pretty down to the wire), getting it down to zero health, which from what I can tell severely reduces the number of reinforcements the enemies had during the next round. Yet during the post-game my name was nowhere to be seen, and the majority of top players were of course those who played a hero character.

How many people have you seen with more than 20 kills as a hero? Not a lot from what I have seen.

I've played like 5 games and couldn't get into this, so um....none? Not sure.

But if you can go on a 40 kill streak and the offensive side only gets like 100 reinforcements or something, that's a problem.

Played for a bit with this and really not sure about it. For context, I played the shit out of the first one. I am a firm believer in single player modes being the 'main' attraction and yet loved the last one. It had faults sure, but I felt these were overplayed. This feels like a worse game so far. I was super hyped but this kind of brought it back down to earth. I'll be getting it regardless as my daughter loves star wars and played a lot of split screen on the last one. Plus Darth Maul, man, Darth Fucking Maul.

The game looks amazing, kudos to the devs on yet another stellar presentation. I think the gameplay however is a fair bit below however.

Few criticisms:

- I play a lot of Battlefield 1, Battlefront 1 and TF2, so I am thinking this may be a UK and EA issue as I now see it here too (lag). I get a lot of random jittering lag, I'll be running and then I skip back a step. Very jarring. Or I hit a guy in the head with multiple shots but doesn't seem to register them all. I actually switched to the heavy class to compensate for this. Very frustrating. I get like 16 ping and have great bandwidth and obviously that doesn't seem like client lag to me. I think there are a lot of frame drops too, I'm not a frames purist and usually never notice that stuff but definitely seems bad at times (using PS4 Pro). That could be server lag again but in general the performance can be very frustrating. One minute I'm doing very well and getting a 5 man kill streak, next it feels like I'm shooting spit balls. I've looked into this a few times and do find others complaining about this in the UK, didn't used to be too bad but gradually worse like a month or two after battlefield 1 was released. So more of a regional EA server complaint.

- Maybe its the game modes available but the spawn system and lack of map is really jarring. It seems to put you half way across the map and you have no feel for the fact you are half way across the map. So you start careful, get bored and rush... then rush into enemies and die. I would much prefer the squad/map system of battlefield 1, it gives you a little bit more strategy control as well. I would keep the 'auto-squad' feature, not let you switch but you can create a fresh squad and invite others. Or if they are on your friends list, they get an auto-join prompt. With a map shown pre-spawn so you can at least orientate a little.

- Not a fan of the maps, lots of large open spaces with no cover along with total choke points where it becomes a grenade, effects can't see shit so wildly fire in the general direction affair.

- Heroes seem really hard to get when you're playing well, I was doing the best in our team, built up my points... but we did too well so as soon as I spawn as Rey it is game over with a victory. Victory should feel good, but I felt completely robbed. Almost encourages you to do worse.

- The balance of the game modes is pretty crap to put it mildly. Galactic assault if you are vaguely competent as a team defending can destroy the escort vehicle pretty quickly. If they get passed the first round, then its almost nailed on they go on to win it seems. The first few games I don't think many understood the process of getting the ion gun and like a mini-walker assault can start destroying the tank. Once people knew, that seemed to be that. So got a bit boring. Then played Strike... defending is pretty much an easy win. You'd have to be pretty bad to mess it up. The fact the artefact resets means you can just sit from afar and all shoot whoever tries and picks it up. Didn't win a game as the attack, didn't lose a game as the defence.

- The guns and roles are mostly pretty meh, basically kept playing as the heavy. Which I noticed a lot of others were too. Not enjoyed the others at all really. I might enjoy assault more if the performance was better.

- The objectives and pop up notification stuff takes up so much damn screen space and as I see others mention, some roles and maps make seeing things a lot harder. So to have a giant bit of writing overlay things so you can't see the enemy is pretty poor. make it smaller and move to the top, with an audio announcement instead. Then you've got moving droids and falling leaves which at the corner of your eye makes you twitch turn. Everyone looks paranoid as shit.

Anyway, a lot of this can be fixed I think barring the spawning system which I can't see them changing. Looking forward to the single player campaign unless it is another mary sue.

Oh I wouldn't argue with that. The point system is awkward in a sense that the team with the better players get more tools to stomp the other team even harder.

I have seen games where one team is running two heroes in phase 1 while the other gets them in phase 2 or even 3 if its ridiculously unbalanced. But I wouldn't say the alternative is better (random or hand me out heroes) as that often lead to frustration because heroes were being completely wasted by someone.

I would say a good Maul is what can easily win phase 2 and 3 for CIS.

Kamino gameplay if anyone is interested.

So Palpatine still has his dash, sadly without that harrowing scream.

This is my biggest complaint right now. I can't understand this decision.

This was a big issue for me while playing the Takadona map. Getting my bearings on spawn was difficult.

Kamino gameplay if anyone is interested.

Damn, this looks great. Loved Kamino in the original Battlefront II so I was really looking forward to it coming back. I'm also happy they included the Trident ships from the Kamino arc in Clone Wars.

What is the best setting thats similar to BF1 for starfighters? Ive tried both southpaw settings and it feels like Im fighting the controls 10x more than other people or fighters. DICE always pisses me off with their flight controls.

All I want is up/down, left/right on the left stick, throttle on the right, but it always splits up and down and left and right to separate sticks. Feels like Im trying to pat my head and rub my stomach at the same time.

Since the only other game i've been playing is Fortnite this game's visuals are blowing me away. Good lord Dice.

a lot of why i spent so much time with the first was were the settings/era. i'm not as much down for this naboo battledroid clone business..

Am I supposed to be unable to even go past the User Agreement?

*sigh*

Restart number 12...

I tried all of the solutions floating around the internet and the only thing that worked was a factory reset, which was a huge PITA. Even after that, it only worked for me the one time I booted it. After that I gave up on the Xbox version and just been playing it on PC.

I loved the 2015 game. I really like this one, now that I've gotten used to the changes. It's unfortunate that they changed it so much, but fortunate that they didn't go too far and just make it a straight expy of Battlefield.

I would kill for a “hard core” Starfighter Assault mode where everyone is locked to cockpit view.

I never understood why they can't just sample lines from the movies. Seems like a no brainer

Who knows, it isn’t like they need him to say a lot they probably couldn’t take from the films. There was an old Star Wars strategy game based on age of empires, the name escapes me, but the Han Solo voice in that was dreadful as well, like just awful, it seems to be a voice they just can’t nail and becomes painfully obvious it isn’t Harrison Ford.

What these games need is that voice program I think Adobe showed off. Takes a bunch of sound files and learns how someone speaks, letting you then type in what you want and it sounds pretty good. I would rather they just had.
