Star Wars Episode VII Cast Announced

They were both well established and well known, from what I recall. They may all have nothing quite the size of Star Wars before it came along but they had sizeable roles in pretty big films before The Phantom Menace. Liam Neeson in particular (though I may be leaning too much on what I liked for McGregor).

Ewan McGregor was not well known before being cast in TPM, certainly not to an American audience. Take a look at his credits prior to that casting.

All they pretty much have to do for a teaser is the Force theme/Binary Sunset, a green lightsaber in the dark, and a pan up to Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker for the first time in 32 years. Tickets will be sold.

just got goosebumps imagining that teaser

Even easier: Vader breathing with a title card.

I don't care if he's in it or not (but I bet he will be...somehow).

Vaders story is done. If Disney is adamant about expanding the universe, then they need to establish new character and new villains at this point.

Has there ever been an Asian person in Star Wars?

They finally announced the cast!!! I can rest peacefully now. I love Max Von Sydow. Haven't seen him in anything for a while. Hope he's healthy.

P.S. I wonder if LOTR fans are pissed that Serkis is in a Star Wars movie.

I hope they don't make Adam Driver, von Sydow, etc. Sith, considering, you know, the Force is supposed to be in balance now and it more or less makes the other movies pointless if Anakin didn't succeed in bringing that about.

I'm pretty sure Lucas didn't get any of the cast together for a meeting for the prequels. I'm sure JJ is much better at dealing with actual people/actors. Already looking good.

A little surprised to see so many "Sydow is definitely evil/Sith" here. I wouldn't peg him as such, he's had just as many "good" roles as "bad" roles.

I could easily see him as an old Jedi, although I guess that doesn't fit the timeline.

Stop getting excited. You know this will be flashy junk.

Nice to see a couple of those people score big movies, however.

Wonder if the English cast members that aren't villains will keep their accents, or mock American ones, given they are lesser known it could go either way

Yeah, but even with Serkis - it's not like people are used to seeing his face, so even he can blend in more than most.

I wonder if his role is going to be some sort of mo-capped thing, or if they're just gonna let him act without gluing ping-pong balls to his dick.

Ha what? The prequels were cast with unknowns? Haha what?

I'll admit baby and man Anakin were unknowns but that was pretty much it.

They weren't big names brought in for their star power to boost the box office, is my point. With the exception of Neeson, they had all only been in smaller, indie films. As has most of this cast.

Glad they are unknown's.

May it go well....but based on JJ's two past Star Trek movies I'm quite worried.

Especially due to the second ST movie.

Those two movies were basically Star Wars movies at heart, anyway, and good ones at that. It's the reason traditional ST fans disliked them. That, plus Lindeloff, who isn't working on Star Wars... Yet.
