How did this kid have a mental breakdown based on the video leak? Did he get bullied in school for weeks after the video hit? Don't really get this. Glad he's doing I guess after suffering something as traumatic as a breakdown.

Yep he did.

Yup

I'm sure world wide humiliation, depression, transferring schools, suicide attempt all to a middle school kid is just merely being inconvenienced.

kids get bullied everyday and go through all kinds of trauma.

worldwide humiliation - how does this affect his daily life? I dont know his name, where he's from..I would not have recognised him in other pics online/facebook, nevermind in real life. Me laughing at one of his exploits has no bearing on him in any way.

and if his schoolmates laugh at him, just take it on the chin. join in on the joke, its fine to laugh at yourself.

but actually I dont need to say all this, because 'depression' and a failed suicide attempt aka wanting to run away from your life cos you can't stand what you've been caught doing IS just a bloody inconvenience and to say its anything else is making a mockery of people with you know...real problems.

his life could carry on just fine, man up or start afresh. and his relatives were unscathed besides having to support him. a $250,000 fine on the other hand is a lifetime's worth of debt, its almost like taking a family's home away from them. generations would be affected by that, kids missing out on college or houses being remortgaged or other debts piling up to pay off other debts.

his life was inconvenienced, not ruined, he looks just fine now.

It's funny how in the pre-youtube era, being the victim of a viral video was a horrible experience, while now everybody is trying to get as many views as SWK by doing the most ridiculous videos...
Both the beginnings of the internet and its state today are fascinating.

Dude...the fucking parodies of this video are amazing....I can't believe some people haven't seen this. Even watching them again now make me laugh out loud.

Kid was a fuckin' pussy about it, but I can understand that someone could possibly maybe become depressed about being laughing stock of the world.

Much more respect to the dude who got made fun of for the "it's real to me dammit!" and instead of suing left and right and going into a shame spiral... he went and good-naturedly did ads for a car dealership.

I hope he uses the Chewbacca defense.

"I'm not as deluded as I make myself out to be"

I think you are as deluded as you make yourself out to be.

You are not the world my friend.

Regardless, he's a fucking pussy and a gigantic douche for financially ruining the families of his friends.

Are you kidding me? How would you like it if your child was humiliated on a global scale and was too scared to go outside for fear of being mocked? I would love to see how you would handle the situation if it was your son being harassed and teased like this kid was. What would you say to him when he came to you, the kids own father, asking for help. Would you tell him to man up? Of course you fucking wouldn't. So don't act like you're some super hero bad ass motherfucker that can handle anything that comes his way. This was a freaking child, not some 25 year old adult. The kid was being heckled on a global scale. Those kids who uploaded the video knew EXACTLY what they were doing. They didn't just accidentally upload the video to their computer, rename it and upload it to Youtube. They knew it was funny and they knew it would have severe effects on this kids self esteem.

I would love, absolutely love to see what all the people in this thread telling him to man up would do if

1. This was done to them
2. This was done to their child

You would want every piece of compensation you could get, and then some, because you would want these people to pay for what they did to you or your child.

He does know we were laughing at him for being French Canadian, and not the Star Wars thing, right?

Kerouac's the only macho French Canadian who comes to mind. He would have punched you in the throat.

Yes...Yes they do. Quite often actually.

Yes, in fact one of the best things about having friends is being total dicks to eachother.

Still though, what happened to this kid was pretty extreme.

The "it's real to me dammit" guy was also not 13 (15? 16?) years old.

Also, $250,000 was the initial claim for the lawsuit, not the settlement amount. The lawsuit itself was settled out of court. I repeat, the lawsuit was settled out of court.

One more time, the lawsuit was settled out of court.

I'm shocked there are people who have only just now seen this video. I always thought Star Wars Kid was as ubiquitous as the Dancing Baby. I guess you learn something new every day.

Wow, that brings back memories. It's hard to believe today that a mere CG animation of a baby dancing turned into an internet phenomenon.

Watch now as everyone realizes he's a Canadian, and not an American, and therefore not nearly as much of an asshole as they had previously thought... just a guy having fun. :lol

This shit was way before youtube.

I also recently saw a where are they now? on the hello my future girlfriend guy. He was doing ok if you're wondering.
You wouldn't know where I could watch this would you? Hello my future girlfriend was one of my introductions to the internet. :lol

Well, that's gonna be shits 'n giggles in court.

"Your honor, I'd like to plea."

"Wait, hold up, aren't you that kid from the internet?"

Tokubetsu said:
Maybe he should have thought of that before acting like an idiot anywhere near video equipment. You know, being embarrassed.
Exactly. All the kids did was show a video of him. Don't want to be seen doing silly things? Don't do silly things. It wasn't like they made him do it, or filmed him taking a shit, or anything like that at all. Kid was just unlucky that it became so popular.

ITT people who have never been badly bullied tell an harassed 13yo to man the fuck up.
LoLz.

I did laugh a lot at the Matrix parody, I had never seen it!

Most people have been bullied at some point, I think the way you handle it says a lot about your character and personality.

Sure everyone has been laughed at at some point, but I'm talking about extreme bullying which is what this kid went through.
Everyday, everyone for months and months. I don't know if he's been beaten up as well but if that's the case you can't simply tell him to man up.
Especially because I don't think it was 1 vs 1 but more like groups vs him.

Oh wow, that's awesome. I found that with my friends back in the 90's and we would play it on a loop for ages just wetting ourselves laughing. In the decade plus since then I don't think anything on the internet has been quite as hilarious.
