1. Leaving yourself open to being bisected from above before ever getting to their hand.

2. That assumes those ports aren't wrapped in cortosis or or made of Mandalorian steel.

There's no such thing as Cortosis or Mandalorian steel in the canon.

... huh, cortosis is canon?
Interesting.

Are there any reaction videos filmed in a theatre? I'd love to see a room full of fans who cared enough to go out to see it going nuts over the Falcon shot.

Man watching live reaction videos on youtube are awesome. So many people crying or going absolutely crazy watching it for the first time.

I thought most fans were cynical dead husks reading this forum but it has re-vitalized my view of the fans :)

Here are a couple:

I can't watch that type of thing; it gives me pre-Phantom Menace flashbacks.

I wonder if anyone's going to camp out again. Or already is.

So amazing to watch, haha. My reaction was just like the first guy's. I screamed and cheered for a good while after and then rewatched it like 5 more times before I finally went back to real life and posted it on Facebook. Then started refreshing this thread to see the reactions here.

Such a crazy moment lol.

Obviously a page 1 quote is a bit daft, but still: which episode of Half in the Bag is this from?

Nope. As of May 2014 only the 6 films, The Clone Wars, and Rebels are canon. Everything new from that point on is canon.

You should be watching Rebels. That is telling the story of the origin of the Rebellion. And doing a great job of it.
Didn't the Rebellion start with a bunch of senators during Revenge of the Sith? Rebels being set so close to Episode 4 just messes up the timeline. of course the scene I'm talking about was deleted

If it started so early, what could the cartoon and a bunch of scoundrels really contribute?

I fully expect the original three films to be available on Blu-ray by the end of next year. FOX isn't going to refuse to distribute them.

My real hope is that Disney and Lucasfilm quietly place all the "Episode" movies into a separate Star Wars canon... like this:

CANON A
Star Wars
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi
Star Wars: The Force Awakens

CANON B (The George Lucas Canon)
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (Special Edition)
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (Special Edition)
Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (Special Edition)

There are things in Episode 1 that I like, I actually think that Episode 3 is fine for the most part. Ewan was always a good Obi Wan. However I will still never be able to emotionally link the Anakin of the PT with the Anakin of the OT. I just cannot picture Darth Vader as being that whiny emotional brat. I always pictured Anakin as a dashing young man with neat dark hair and sharp eyes who chose to leave the jedi based on well rounded ideological reasons, not because of teen angst.
If I had to pick an actor right this instant off the top of my head to play young Anakin I guess it would be someone like Karl Urban.

There is no chance of episodes 1-3 being stricken from the record, though. But we still have our imagination. And I do think that Anakin was portrayed much better in the Clone Wars series.

And I sure do hope that the originals are put on Bluray. I'm actually fine with ep4 and ep5 special editions, it's Return of the Jedi where things go so terribly wrong that I can't stand it. That's the one I want. I hate the new Sarlac pit, I hate the new band, and give me back Sebastian Shaw.

The timeline of Rebels fits in with the pre-reset canon, where the seeds of rebellion had been there for a while, but the Rebellion was only formally declared a couple of years before the time of ANH: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Declaration_of_Rebellion

I doubt people who were there from the beginning like Mon Mothma and Bail Organa would have lasted 20 years of leading an open rebellion while representing whole planets.

I'm exactly the opposite. Ever since I saw the OT for the first time many years ago, and Obi Wan described Anakin's personality, my idea of that young Anakin was of an adventurous, reckless, ambitious but whiny and lustful for power individual.

I guess that's the reason why I didn't jump into the hate bandwagon for Anakin in the prequels, because the prequels painted him exactly as I thought he was.

I never thought of him as a stoic, heroic and righteous guy. Even when I was a kid, I pictured Anakin as a kind of a jackass who betrayed his best friend because he wanted more and more power, and I actually pictured him as a powerful, but whiny crybaby who threw tantrums when he didn't get his way.

I was lucky to have that image of him before the prequels even launched, I guess.

I acknowledge the flaws but still find them super enjoyable and I like the story and action. Not sure what's wrong with that, and your type of attitude is exactly what I'm talking about. You're welcome to think they're garbage but not everyone feels that way.

Yep, I am one of those people who actually loves the Prequels.

So Rebels is ~4-5 years before Ep4 and the declaration was ~2 years. That sort of fits.. 2 years isn't a lot of time to form a galaxy-wide resistance though. :p

This is assuming a lightsaber is just floating in mid-air stationary and not actually in a fight. The chance of you being able to accurately strike off those cross hilts while actively engaged with an agile opponent like a Jedi/Sith is minimal.

It's the same kind of crap as people always asking why cops don't just aim for the legs.

Is it so hard to accept that lightsabers defy logic? We might as well start to analyze Ewok military plans while we are at it...

Yeah, if you can accept that the light just stops at a certain point, you can accept that new hilt. I just don't get why people are upset about it.

I haven't followed much news on this film as of late, but I was curious if the first character shown (disguised as a Stormtrooper) could possibly be the main character for this film?

I'm actually pleasantly surprised they didn't show any of the original cast yet. I like that they are saving that, instead of playing on nostalgia like they definitely could have.

I'm in love with the new Soccer Ball R2 unit. Very cool.

Also, someone asked why use blasters instead of physical rounds.

A blaster bolt is going to function effectively the same in any environment or gravity. A bullet is not. And very nearly any environment that would have an effect on super heated plasma is going to be no less detrimental to bullets.

The stormtrooper played by John Boyega & the girl on the speeder played by Daisy Ridley are the two main leads.

Oh no!!!
The Crossguard in the new lightsaber isn't 100% functional, it goes against everything else in this franchise WHERE 90% OF ACTION SCENES ARE MADE TO LOOK COOL BUT NOT TO BE REALISTIC..... oh wait, it doesn't.

Seriously.
Trailer looks good IMO. Hopefully they don't screw it up with excessive fanservice like the new Star Trek

All the talk of canon...if anyone actually wanted to know what the entire on-screen canon is for Star Wars is this is the official complete list of on-screen canon.:

The canon is the original trilogy and whatever new materials Disney authorizes. The prequels and clone wars are just there and I guess are B canon. Gary Whitta who is writing the next one has already made it clear that the prequels are barely above fan fiction and in the past JJ has said the prequels are "ancient history" and have nothing to do with what comes next. Dropping the episode numbers from the title and marketing should make it very clear to any doubters left on what direction lucasfilm has (wisely) decided to go in.

I think you're either missing the Clone Wars tv show or the Clone Wars movie. Can't tell which one that's a poster for.

Oh, Jesus. You're just going to have to face it: The prequels and Clone Wars are canon. "B Canon". Holy shit.

:

From star wars.com
While Lucasfilm always strived to keep the stories created for the EU consistent with our film and television content as well as internally consistent, Lucas always made it clear that he was not beholden to the EU. He set the films he created as the canon. This includes the six Star Wars episodes, and the many hours of content he developed and produced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. These stories are the immovable objects of Star Wars history, the characters and events to which all other tales must align.
Who cares what JJ and Whitta have to say about it?
