Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker D23 trailer

He'll possess someone. I 100% guarantee it.

This entire movie's plot has been hinted at since Disney bought LucasFilm.

I hope you mean a mindless body prepared for him because I would frown upon him possessing Rey or Kylo. Possession like that just doesn't seem very Star Wars. The movies have always made it very clear that even if you been tempted by either Dark or Light, you still ultimately make the decision.

Luke: So it controls your actions?
Obi-Wan: Partially, but it also obeys your commands.

So having Palptine possess Rey or Kylo would mean he can just take over their free will which just doesn't mesh with what we know about Force-sensitive individuals. Those who are Force-sensitive (or certain species like the Hutts) are supposed to be unaffected by the mind trick and such. Mind-reading is feasible given Snoke does it to Rey but actually controlling their mind should be out of the question.

Clones actually fits given it was a major element in the PT. So that's where my theory lies.

just read one of the plot leaks from the sound of things this movie will piss off everyone
Is it the absurd one in which
it turns out Palpatine has been possessing Kylo Ren since before TFA, and Rey is the daughter of Han/Leia and already trained with Luke but at some point had her memory erased?

Or is it the slightly less absurd, but still absurd, one in which
Luke and Han's (???) force ghosts convince Kylo to turn good in order to help Rey defeat Palpatine and then Luke's force ghost proceeds to resurrect Kylo after he dies in the battle?

:messenger_grinning_sweat:

I've got the feeling as if this is one of those shots like black widow shooting at the shooting range in the endgame trailer.. we won't get to see this. I don't know why but it feels like we're being trolled and her face looks photoshopped into place.

Rey looks weird:

Seriously, I can't think of what the utility of having the sabers oriented that way would be, you would never use it in that orientation, so why even make the mechanism? Maul's is much more elegant and useful. This looks like a fucking nutcracker.

the worse one is
that they have to transmit Luke's message of hope to the galaxy or something. essentially the Resistance were kickstarters for the Star Wars streaming channel which never has anything new and has as it's sole purpose the reproduction of mass produced "stories" for consumers.
i spoiled quoted that but tbh i don't see the need, this film must be super under wraps, and JJ loves mystery things, they must have multiple copies of the script and multiple fake leaks they originated out there. if this was a real twist then why spoil it before the first trailer? the most fun of all of this is going to be right now, the lead up, seeing all the crazy theories people come up with, that will inevitably be more interesting than the movie. really like when people take things from the Secret History of Star Wars, as they have shown themselves to not just ripoff the OT and PT but Lucas's unused ideas as well.

The fact that they showed that in the trailer probably means that it'll less significant than it appears, compared to the twists that they obviously don't want to show now.

My bet is on it being alternate timeline Rey shown by a force ghost. Worse case scenario is that this is an actual alternate timeline due to time travel fuckery.

The teaser scream desperate with the montage of the old Star Wars.

It's the end of the Skywalker Saga of 1-9, kinda makes total sense they'd show all the movies. Marvel did the same thing with Endgame's trailer showing footage of the older movies. There was a Lord of the Rings trailer made for Return of the King that focused on all three movies. This isn't a new concept.

Just read a load of spoilers over at Ree.
They sounds too fucking wacky to be true but if they are true then the final film will be weird as fuck lol

Best thing I can say about them is that most of Ree fucking hates them which is a win in my opinion lol
Yeah, the rumors have some differences but the general gist is the same so I'm fully expecting a train wreck.
If this confirms that they are indeed ripping off AotC I'm going to laugh my ass off.

For the record I love AotC but the C3PO stuff was abysmal.

Who the fuck does Disney think they are fooling? There is no way Mary Sue Rey is turning bad.

Also, does any franchise rely as strongly on nostalgia as Star Wars? I mean, fucking wow. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

she skipped the training went straight to the dark side somehow wields a double bladed saber better than darth maul who had training his whole life.
That's our Rey

I'm guessing he will possess one of the Knights of Ren.

It's already established in canon that powerful Sith don't return as Force ghosts, but instead are anchored to certain objects that, with the correct Sith ritual or whatever, can bring them back to the physical world with a host body. This is true of Lord Momin, who is brought back by Vader via his mask; he then possesses the body of an Imperial officer.

This was in a recent comic so I have no doubt whatsoever that they're using that to set it up in the next film. Also shown recently in canon: A lot of Vader, a lot of Mustafar (and Vader's castle), a lot of hints about ancient Sith stuff.

The Dark Side Rey thing is a vision she sees, like Luke seeing himself as Vader. That explains the unstable saber; the only "Sith" saber she's ever seen is Kylo's, so that's where her mind goes to fill in the blank. The folding saber is from ancient Jedi stuff (like the temple guard seen in Rebels) so she saw that in the texts.

The novels set up a long time ago that Palpatine: A, was super interested in some shit in the Outer Rim; and B, that he left a "contingency" on Jakku in the event that he dies. I honestly just think Rey doesn't have parents and that she was "created" similar to how Anakin was and is meant to be a new Anakin and/or Emperor, probably as a body to be possessed. It's made very clear that Palpatine is like a Sith weeaboo, and knows about all this old ancient shit everybody forgot.

I think people are used to ignoring EU/non movie content since before the new movies, they didn't "matter" since the movies were done coming out. But now, they are every bit as canon to the films, and there has been a lot of hints dropped in each and every piece of media that comes out. I can't imagine any other reason they'd be setting all of this stuff up.

Yikes. I read the spoilers and other than a few scenes, this sounds bad already.

The one thing I like is

That Skywalker (in the title Rise of Skywalker) is the new group name of force users that don't want to pick a side between Jedi/Sith, not Rey herself. If they re-re-retcon her into being Luke or Leia's daughter I'm gonna poop out a turd and throw it at the screen like a monkey at a zoo.

Although I think this is total BS, I do agree that "Skywalker" has been set up as a generic name for a force user. In the second Thrawn novel, Thrawn is intrigued when he meets Anakin, as his last name is the Basic equivalent to the name given to certain Chiss youth who display Force-like supernatural powers. It seemed like an odd thing to throw into a novel, so I'm sure it's a setup.

Is there any other source for spoilers? I'm going to spoiler myself completely before considering going to see this.

Literally any other source

reddit's r/starwarsleaks generally does a great job of filtering out BS. There are a lot of recent spoilers/rumors from there that were in this teaser for example.

There is no way they would turn the strong and independent female character go evil. That scene is either a dream/vision of an alternative future or is ray "joining" kylo to try to turn him back(kind of like luke did with vader).

Too bad the 2nd part of the new triology sets up nothing about this lore.
Casual audience will get confused with this ancient clone ritual lore all squeeze into this last part.

I was watching this thinking "huh looks like the RLM boys might get it wrong" but I think Rey will get possessed by Emperor (so yay Rich), but also with the hints of time travel with the Empire ships...

We really don't know much plot, but it can't be worse than TLJ since the plot was nonexistent.

I will say the shot of Dark Rey looks silly with her flipping the lightsaber, looks weirdly stiff, and then the anime face shot after. Hmmm...

I haven't liked the designs in the new trilogy. That doesn't look good at all. They looked better in Episode 3 too.

Disney designs always look like off brand bootlegs. Similar enough to be recognizable but without any real creative spark or purpose.

Disney/Lucasfilm - Forget the past, kill it if you have to!

Also Disney/Lucasfilm - Hey everyone, forget what we said earlier. The first half of this new Ep. IX trailer is 100% devoted to nostalgia. Remember the OT? Remember the prequels?

This trailer is laughable. The idea that's these 9 films are linked is ridiculous. The OT is its own thing. The rest is hot garbage, just look at it.

The Resistance seems to have loads of OT ships and those Star Destroyers are from the OT as well. It's either time travel (God help us) or some dumb plot device that Palpatine had planned out all along. The fight on the wrecked Death Star is a cool image, shame I couldn't give a toss about who wins.

With the history of these new Star Wars trailers you can bet that most of the new stuff won't even be in the film. No way Rey is turning, it's just some dream. Palpatine won't make an appearance either, if he did they probably wouldn't have used one of those Hot Toys as the basis for the poster. WTF.

Game over man.

Rey/Kylo possessed will be mind control which will be up there with Time Travel in horrible plot devices. i thought they had sunk to a new low ripping off Battlestar Galactica tv show stranded plot and the titular sequence of Starcrash (defeating the bad guys by flying your ship into them, except Stella Star had the sense to leap out of the ship meaning Star Wars is now dumber than it's own 40 year old ripoffs). mind control is just, why should i care about anything from that point on? like multiverses and bringing back the dead, it fundamentally undercuts any and all future drama.

maybe Luke was mind controlled in last movie too? wouldn't that make all the people who loved TLJ's portrayal and found him realistic retconned into rooting for the bad guy and being entirely wrong about everything? then again Rey could be possessed, killed herself in Noble Suicide fashion that is so popular. the actress has wanted out for a while. still, great way to conclude your trilogy that is inspirational to little girls, having the main hero kill herself. i dunno. it feels like every single option they have will only lead to disaster. this is the consequence of not coming up with new ideas.

guy who wrote Batman V Superman wrote this, and that film used a dream sequence of Batman in a duster captured by Superman in the trailer. this could be a dream sequence, a fake force vision, anything really, which has nothing to do with the overall plot, which is constantly getting rebooted anyways. more mystery box bullshit from the master JJ. the answer is going to be uninteresting and cheap, like everything he makes. this is just SW Remix #10,000: Rey X Darth Maul
You don't know Starwars lore.
The most powerful dark side users can transfer their essence into a another body. Palpatine in Legends for instance is a clone.
For comparison this is the First Order Star Destroyer
3D-star-destroyer-order-model_0.jpg

They really are gonna do time travel fuckery arent they?
But didn't Palpatine secretly start sending half of his fleet to the unknown regions between Episode III and VI?

Just feels like they are trying way too hard.

TLJ was a clusterfuck, so JJ said fuck it, the only way we save this trilogy and end it with a bang is to bring back EVERYTHING....Palpatine, The Empire, Luke, Lando, the old Star Destroyers, etc....

It seems most of the people have no clue what's gonna be the link and connection between The Skywalker legacy and the film and probably that's a good thing for Abrams this time around.

Disney would NOT let a female protag turn evil.

It's one of the main reasons Rey is so boring. Nothing will happen to her at all. Political immunity.
how many movies in general have a female protagonist turn evil at all? It's not exactly easy to do in a 2 hour sitting without seeming arbitrary or cheesy.

There would be abandoned ship yard full of star destroyers after the empire imploded. Also in tons of comics and other material it's shown that the empire has remote bases full of production yards. Makes total
Sense the universe is a big place. Just because most population is central doesn't mean that's all there is. The EU makes this plain in all the comics, cartoons, and video games.

are you seriously trying to "You're not a real Star Wars fan" me? please. i have lived with this shit for 37 years. i have read the Dark Empire comic. i loved that shit when it was new ~30 years ago. besides, Disney "threw away the EU" remember? i guess they threw it away so they could copy it and pretend they did something new? lol i dunno. the point still stands. if JJ can't come up with a better way to top the series than a EU comic book from 1991 why should i give him my time of day?

indeed this whole experience has me rethinking going to see his movies. i have never fully enjoyed his films, they have always felt like going through the motions. and Chris Terrio who helped write what was the worst film i've seen in a long time. why did they give this to these idiots? are there really no good directors? they couldn't ask a big name? Steven Speilberg doesn't even want to touch it? the stink is that bad. or maybe they were just too cheap. at any rate, RLM said it best, "beige filler". the minute i saw that shot of them on a grassy hill with overcast skies that looked like they shot it across the street i thought, no, no more. not gonna reward this lazy filmmaking.

I feel like they're trying too hard to catch people. More like desperated, since they have to increment the video with old Star War movies. And I found myself asking "ok...and?" after that.

I capped to gif:

That looks more like a toy than a lightsaber.

The lack of ideas is strong in this one.
