StarCraft 2 - In part next gen 'point & click' adventure game

I never did finish the single player campaign in Starcraft one... I hope I don't have to go back in order to understand what's going on in the second one.

Instead of asking you how you concievably didn't finish StarCraft 1, I'll just tell you that StarCraft 2 picks up where after the events of StarCRaft 1 and StarCraft: Brood War. So you better get the expansion and beat the game proper.

I can't wait to command the terran armies again... all those lovely AoE damage weapons are calling to me.

Nice twist on the single player campaign tech trees... wonder how they'll do it in multiplayer.

I never bothered finishing the SC campaign without cheat codes. It's just too boring, the small squad stuff especially. BW was awesome though.

My biggest gripe about this game isn't how it compares visually to other RTS already out, but how RTS in general look. It's just really not impressive, no matter how it compares to C&C or CoH or whatever.

Well that and it seemingly took 10 years to remake the same game, but I'll reserve judgement till its out for that.

I wonder what order the campaigns will be played in. I wonder if they will eschew the whole order thing and make campaigns unlockable as you progress with one race or another.... interesting.

I still want to see just who and what Kerrigan is talking to during the Zerg campaign. Will she perhaps go for a dip at some evolution pools after a walk about the Hive? The possibilities! :D

I want to see more of Kerigan so bad, what an awesome villan.
I don't expect her character to dominate so much like the last game though.

Here are all the new details I could remember from the StarCraft Lore Panel at Blizzcon:

-Valerian Mengsk is introduced as Arcturus' son and heir to the Terran Dominion. Here's the the concept art of him.

-Arcturus has used his control over the media to paint Raynor as an untrustworthy outlaw.

-the Protoss have a new female executor named Selendus (sp?).

-the game picks up 4 years after Brood War. Oddly, no one has heard from the Zerg since then even though Kerrigan and the Zerg had nearly crushed all their enemies.

-after his encounter with Duran on the dark moon, Zeratul wanders the universe in search of evidence supporting Duran's statements. Based on the cutscene, it seems that he's found that evidence.

-Artanis is the central ruler of the Protoss who have since splintered apart into a more tribal society. He tries to keep the divided factions together. Some of them believe that they must retake Aiur immediately while others feel that such an endeavor is currently impossible.

-Chris Metzen said that even his fellow Blizzard employees have been pestering him to include Nova. He seemed a bit reluctant, but he did hint that Nova may make a cameo if he could find a way to include her that makes sense.

I hate Blizzard but this game is looking pretty cool. Story is an important but generally neglected part of strategy games. Even if Blizzard's settings and characters are derivative of other, better works, they have undeniable polish and detail.

As long as Raynor keeps the promise he made in Brood Wars I'll be happy.

I still wish Fenix didn't have to die. He was my favorite character in Starcraft. =(

Just play the game with codes. It's a pretty interesting story

Refresh my memory.

Ol' Jimmy wants Kerrigan dead...

But he better watch out for himself. I have a feeling he might meet his maker, and not by any Zerg. As for Kerrigan... she seems lonley. Who would be a good infestable playmate for her... hmn.

How would this 'point and click' adventure work for the Zerg side? I imagine Kerrigan interacting with zerglings and hydras to be quite boring.

Read the thread. Someone mentioned that they are going to have something different for the Protoss and Zerg.

Edit:

What's even better is that this type of campaign is only for Terrans. Blizzard said that the Protoss and Zerg's campaign will be completely different in terms of style of play (since they aren't a group of mercenaries going from planet to planet). Kudos to Blizzard for trying to make the races even more diverse. I cant wait to see what they have in store for us for Battle.net.

I think the Protoss and Zerg campaigns will be different but have a similar concept to what they are doing with Terrans. I can totally see Kerrigan in a hive doing Zerg stuff while the Protoss commune telepathicly or something.

I wonder what Kerrigan is planning though. I mean obviously she is bent on universe domination but this whole mysterious Zerg disappearance probably means something like invading other planets, infesting their creatures and supplanting the Zerg army for a massive sweep across the universe.

I dont know what to expect from Blizzard after all these years....just hope that it doesnt go "Ghost", and pray for a solid release date.

I have my quibs about point & click, i think it would get old if nothing interesting happens every time i return back to Hyperion. Hopefully the mission console is not the only thing that changes every mission.

Heh...to have interaction with npc's between battles, sounds like FFXII:RW on DS...

In one of the last missions in the Brood War Zerg campaign, you have to kill both General Duke and Fenix. When you kill Fenix, Raynor gets royally pissed off and promises that he will personally be the one to kill Kerrigan.

I really hated doing that mission, the worst part is that I thought that some deus ex machina was going to appear to stop me from killing Fenix, but it never showed up. :(

It's times like this I think to myself... damn, I feel bad for all the people that died before this game came out! :p (that wanted to play it of course)

If Starcraft 2 can't convince people to upgrade, then PC gaming is dead for real.

I am getting a $600-$700 PC which should handle Starcraft 2 easily.

I doubt people will have to upgrade much beyond the minimum requirements for WoW to run SC2.

Kinda weird wording in the title Wollan, next-gen adventure? Adventures don't need "next-genning". I don't get it.

Oh, and TT needs a bigger pic:

I'm curious how the Protos and Zerg campaigns will flesh out. Will they use a similar mechanic? It would be kind of weird but interesting to have some zerglings just standing around in a hive to chat with before missions.

They'll probably be completely different.

My first thought was wing commander. It was a good thought. Fleshed out singelplayer with awsome multiplayer?

Yeah this game is going to own everything. Blizzard are going to buy a couple of new countries with this one. :D

Hope sweden is one of them. :lol

Im curious as to how the story will be played out. Will it be like in the past where you play one race and complete everything and then move on to the next race. Or will it be one large story where you can play any race you want and see the story unfold from different perspectives?

This game looks amazing.

When I first played through the BW campaign, it was with cheats, but I turned them off when I had to face Fenix. I remember him having some insane stats in that mission so he actually fought off my first few attacks until I simply flooded him with units, and then he went down fighting, tearing apart the swarms of units coming at him even as they each landed a hit or two before they died. I'm glad it wasn't a cheap way for him to die (
betrayal
aside), since I liked the character.

I'm only just now watching the GameSpot's movies Wollan linked in 1st post.

WOW

Terrans are amazing.

The game is looking amazing too.

1) :O @ plasma torpedoes
2) :O :O @ The Viking !!!
3) :O :O :O @ Thor Huge Mecha Vehicle !!! !!! !!!
4) :X :X :X @ Ghosts SNIPER ABILITIES!

TOTAL WOWZERS @ THE END OF THE SINGLE PLAYER PRESENTATION

You know, I watched this again a short while ago -- cleaning out my video file from all the E3 shit left over yet -- and I think this is likely what I'm most looking forward to now. There's a lot of potential yet for what innovations they're bringing to Battle.net, so it's subject to change (and likely will), but for now... the single-player campaign potential is looking bad ass.

Especially since this came out of nowhere. I was expecting a great one, but not an extreme new feature like this. Makes you wonder what they have planned for Protoss and Zerg; they did say each campaign would be unique.

They likely see it as investment. They know some folks would prefer crazy new units, races, and graphics that the decision to stay true to the multiplayer will prevent. So how do you win those folks over? Awesome single-player features, cutscenes, and cgi movies.
