Stardew Valley being submitted to Nintendo this week for testing/cert!

So close now... I've been holding out on Stardew Valley since the announcement of the Switch version, so hopefully Nintendo pick a good timeframe to drop it. My pick would be early November so it can slot between the major October releases and Christmas, but we'll see.

Same here. I have been dying to play this game it seems like a perfect game to add to my extremely limited library of one Switch game.

My first Switch double dip, it's going to be awesome on it.

I am intrigued by this game. Is it good for short bursts of pick up and play? Do I need to play everyday?

It's great for short bursts session, a day is pretty short and you can like do a few of them wheneve you ant, might be hard to stop though.

You should just make sure to keep track of what you were doing the last session.

Whoa whoa. Isn't it already available everywhere else? That seems like a weird game to buy a new console for.

But yeah, finally. Been waiting since the Wii U version was announced (and then cancelled) to play this, ignoring the PC version in the process.

It's not portable anywhere else. It's not why i bought a Switch but it's a reason I've put off many other purchases, including Valley on any other platform.

You can end a day anytime you want (time passes by itself though so a day is still rather shoirt) so you do whatever you want.
That said, it is hard to stop so to be blunt, if you're playing this on the toilet I hope it's comfy enough because you might be there for a while.

I wouldn't expect it anytime before mid October.

I'm going to say next week. That was the whole point of them going with the "put it through cert with no fixed date" idea, that they could release it as soon as it was ready. This thursday is probably wishful thinking, next week thursday totally plausable.

Approved....

It's good for short bursts (one game day is 13.5 minutes), but don't be surprised if you get caught in a cycle of playing "just one more day" and suddenly it's 4am.

Your progress isn't tied to real world time like Animal Crossing or anything, so there's no need to play it daily. There's also no hard ending (at the end of year 2, an event occurs where your progress is scored, but you can re-trigger the event any time you like for a minor fee), so you can also keep playing until you're satisfied with your farm. Some people like to see how much money they can make, some people max out all the friendship / marriages, some people try to make the most efficient farm. There's really no wrong way to play it, really.

So what's this game like? Just a really solid Harvest Moon?

Pretty much, yeah, though there's a lot of stuff tacked onto it. The main parts are farming (both crops and livestock), fishing (a small mini-game that takes some getting used to), mining (a top-down dungeon crawl), social elements with NPCs, lots of crafting / cooking, foraging, etc.

Couldn't have happened at a worse time for me, but I'm still greatly excited. Just... Won't be playing it for a while, like I could have if it released a month ago. Before everything else. :L

Not sure if I'll double dip given that co-op is online only, but I'm curious to see how the port is

I hope it launches this week although my work load is hoping it doesn't 😂
No way it comes out that quick, I'd say the mid-Oct predictions are best case

Yes. You could probably say the early Harvest moon. Try checking out some videos.

I've watched the trailers and it's hard to really get it.

You're building a farm and doing menial stuff that will inevitably sink a ton of time, and you'll have some fun, but really you're just erasing time in your life.

Sounds perfect.

This is kinda a cynical way to look at it, right? Like, every video game you play ever is erasing time in your life. Stardew Valley, Harvest Moon, and Animal Crossing are just as entertaining and fun as AAA $60 experiences for a lot of people - myself included.

Soooo

What is Stardew most like? Harvest Moon?
Think a direct sequel to Harvest Moon SNES, but with 20 years of gameplay improvements.

For me personally, none of the other Harvest Moon games after the original felt like they were heading in the right direction. It was always getting cutesier, but losing its charm. This game both recaptures that original charm and evolves into something unique. I feel like I could never go back to Harvest Moon again.

I've been waiting for this.jpg

I hope the release date don't go up there with Mario. In fact, I wish they'd do an "Available now on the eShop" kind of announcement.

Damn it, it's making my decision even harder now.
Stardew or Golf story first.

We don't know when exactly Stardew is coming but it should still be at least a couple weeks away.

Should be enough time to finish Golf Story.

Golf Story has an ending, Stardew Valley doesn't really.

Actually I do own Stardew on PC and the lack of ending is kind of the selling point for me. Need a game that can hold me for a long time while waiting for deals on eShop cards.

Exciting! But now I already have SteamWorld, Picross, Cuphead and the SNES mini to play. No idea if I can fit Stardew in-between all of those and Mario.

Well I'll tell you up front, Golf Story will give you a wonderful 20 hours, and maybe more if you have someone to play local multi with, but it's not infinite in the way that Stardew Valley is.

Hmm, guess I will wait for the news since it's coming today. If it's 3-4 weeks away, I'll just go for Golf Story first.
