We need more info but if he started in the center of the "zone" ... and ran (and jet packed) in a straight line for 10 mins at roughly 6mph (guessing rate of speed) ... meaning this zone is roughly 2 x 2 miles ... or 4 square miles ... I could easily see someone spending 40 minutes exploring a "zone" ... regardless, if he indeed started at the center, it would appear that the width or length is roughly 20 mins when running in a straight line without stopping? Add in fighting, mining, farming resources, exploring/questing etc I don't get the problem but I will reserve my opinion until launch. This could be a special zone, or adjacent to one, or the rate of speed I guesstimated could be off, or I suck at math ...

Good point.

Also, we dont know the sizing of different planets.

I need this now. This will be the game of generation.

What he said about gunplay is NOT GOOD. It's a) not better than fallout 4 in terms of general feel and clunkiness and b) feels better in 3rd person and c) he suspects it wont be a problem on PC.

This is why 30 fps is such a problem on Series X. Who wants to play Bethesda games in 3rd person? Third person in these games has always sucked with less immersion and stiff animation.

Yeah yeah "i always play their games in 3rd person". Sure, you and the 5 other people that play in 3rd person. The games have always been primarily designed for first person, especially the shooting. Thirty fps made the shooting so much worse in Fallout 4 which meant having to use VATS all the time.

Their decision to only make 30 fps on Series X is a JOKE. Flagship exclusive FPS on the flagship console with 12 terraflops and a much better CPU than XB1X and they can't give us a performance mode. Do we even know if Mods are available on console or is Bethesda going to deprive us of that as well??

The invisible wall is a shame but I think in the long run it's less of an issue...
Don't get me wrong, I would love to have complete freedom on the planet with ground vehicles, ability to fly in atmosphere, around the planet and of course in and out of atmosphere to space with complete control and freedom...
But I think that novelty would wear off quickly where you just want to get to you destination or POI.

I used to play a lot of Elite Dangerous, but what made me stop was the boredom of using the jump drive to the next system/planet, it would sometimes take too long. A few days ago I reinstalled ED and NMS, and yes it's still awesome for that seemless planet <> space <> planet. But I found myself quickly being like meh. The immersion is awesome, but perhaps the Starfield way moves things along quicker from a gameplay perspective... idk, guess I'll find out in a few days.

Antagonizing and commenting on haters does nothing.

Honestly until we get legit constructive reviews take it all with a grain of salt and behave.

Haters can hate on the sideline. If the game is good, it will do all the talking it needs to

The people who throw the word "hater" out there while assuming those being critical are just Sony fans in diaguise are ALWAYS the ones who are the true blind fanboys.

It's always the first plsce their minds go to in order to try to deflect criticism of a game/developer/or platform they feel they have to defend. I think it's incredibly childish but that's the nature of being a fanboy.

I have to be honest I wasn't hyped for this, despite being a space enthusiast and lover of sci fi games. Watching a few of those clips, my feelings are certainly changing to the more positive side of things.

Soooo...the initial reveal trailers and the direct that showed every detail that Bethesda wanted us to see didnt get you hyped ..but leaked (bland looking, limited exploration) gameplay of the game actually made you more positive about the game? 🤔

These past couple of days made me realize why Bethesda games just don't click with me. But I'm sure it'll be great, I honestly don't see game of the year here at all

A 10 minute limit is smaller than trying to run from one end of Fallout or Skyrim to the other side. Granted, that Starfield video doesnt show if it's clearly one boundary to the other, or if he started in the middle of the map and just went halfway to one boundary side.
i guess it's about the same for fallout 4? Perhaps bigger though since the guy starts at the ship.

that starfield video seems like its right at the midpoint so i guess boundary to boundary it's about 20 minutes. speed definitely matters though.

It IS about scale. No other developer is even doing what other Bethesda games do. Literally 0.

You just don't know what you're talking about.

Sorry but have you heard of Star Citizen?
Let's no use the "scale" word so loosely.

And I know game limitation exist. I mostly see people disappointed cause once again Bethesda reps decided to lie or twist features of their upcoming game.

They're the ones saying you can fully explore a planet or that they had to wait for technology to catch up in order to make Starfield.

Serious Question.

How is that game these days? Last time I tried it, it was a fucking mess, but that was a couple of years ago now. They must be nearing some sort of finish line by now?

At the time I wasn't enthusiastic at all, now I'll give it a try .I said I was certainly more positive than I have been . no hype train for me yet.

Yeah done a bit of light reading, still a few demos stitched together with the best part of 600 mill.

Why are we comparing this to Starfield again? Seems worlds apart to me.

Just used it as an example for the poster that implied the tech doesn't actually exists to render such scales. I'm well aware of the game faults.

I'm really curious what type of mods we will get a few months down the line and how they'll approach planet generation / terrain thing.

Todd's first line in the Direct is basically "Imagine Fallout or Elder scrolls but set in space".

Next line " This our first new universe in 25 years but its still a BGS RPG through and through.

Seems like your head has made the game into something it can't possibly live up to.
I said "Much more than Fallout in space". Of course they liken it to Fallout/Skyrim (their previous games) to give consumers a basis of comparison but they've since hyped it beyond just a basic Fallout game but in space.

The narrative has been; "the game of all games that we've been making for a quarter century". Now ppl are trying to downplay the hype? 🤨 ok, sure whatever...

No downplaying of hype here. I'm at 11/10.

Skyrim/Fallout in space is all I want.

If it's a square it's about 5.6 sq miles and if it's a circle it's about 8.8 sq miles.
And in case you wanted to make a comparison the entire Skyrim map is 14.5 sq miles per

I scrolled that guys twitter feed for just a couple minutes and had second hand embarrassment . Dude is a straight up marketing shill for Xbox.
Pretty sure he's trolling/doing satire (though not particularly well). There is another video on his channel from a few days ago about how disappointed he is in the game;

Yeah and this planet was chosen just be more clickworthy. He could also chose a planet with life in it but here we are
Not necessarily. Why is your first thought a negative one?

90% of planets are barren and like this, according to Todd Howard. So, this is an accurate representation of the overwhelming majority of planets that are in the game. And what if the planets with life are denser and, therefore, smaller in scale? In that case, what if he hit the boundary in only 3 minutes?

Then the complaints would be, "he deliberately chose a denser planet to be more clickworthy. He could have chosen a barren planet to show how the majority of planets would look like."

I will take 30fps & grater picture fidelity instead of that 60fps immortals of Aveum blurry mess.

Why my first thought are negative? Because the internet has gone that way. Everything for clicks and engagement.

For me the worst about this video is the vast place of nothing. Only rocks.
what did u expected ? its procedural generated planets just to inflate game size "oh look we have 1239829102 planets" the catch is that only 20 have substantial things to do.

also

also 2

Starfield's procedural planets will feature 'handcrafted' locations, but only 10% will support life

Boy.....thats deep. So, like, what is it called when someone offers their "criticisms" when they haven't even played the game yet? Real talk, by default you sound like someone who's salty as you're literally critiquing a game you haven't experienced. Like, how else is anyone supposed to perceive that? Sony fan or no, what can your critique offer when you dont have actual game experience to back it up? What kind of "blind fanboyism" is that? Explain....

Yeah this video proved my point. All I see still is pain in the ass user experience regardless of his 'mitigating' of issues.
It's not too bad and a small price to pay to elevate your gaming experience outside of consoles. 4k/60fps+/ultra on everything well worth it.

I'm waiting for the honeymoon period to wear off and THEN reading GAF's take and deciding whether to play it. Like half the other AAA games ie Diablo 4

Same! Was going to pre-order today and I thought nah; at this point, the internet have hyped it up this much that they'd be cheering if they were given a bucket of piss.

Waiting till the grace period is over, and then I'll make a judgement. I got burned by the same stick with Halo. Insane hype, but flat multiplayer experience.

Skyrim/Fallout in space is all I want.

My favorite thing so far has been the NPC that looks eerily similar to and has the same voice actor as the English guy that played half the characters in Oblivion. Been too long since a true BGS RPG.

This is Sarah Morgan in the game, right?

starfield-onstellation-Sarah.jpg

Why does she look so different in the helmet? Her eyes are all weird (like she is having an orgasm), and I could also see her mustache in the helmet.

Or is that a different character altogether and I'm confusing it with her?
