The idea, at a top-level, was to have a photorealistic version of the sword around the hilt and then move down the blade to more of an "incomplete" image, more of a sketch if you will.

I'm very much in love with the idea of things (and people) being "in process" and never fully complete. I think, as I grow as an individual and as a person, I am constantly reminded of how far I've come but how much farther I still have to go.

Exactly, as someone 80% covered in tattoos nothing neck up, I am for the most part very happy with how the ignorance and stigma has died down. Seems like a majority of people socially evolved.

But some people are still super silly, it is always funny when you find younger people who are repulsed by it, or even in my case when my gay uncles whom I have always respected and been happy for their lifestyle choice would speak of my tattoos in the same way a homophobe or straight up bigot would describe their choice in life which always baffled the shit out of me, even they have gotten better over the years. They actually really liked my hands when I got both of them done, which is one of the points of no return for tattoos.

I think he's mostly implying this tattoo specifically is kinda lame, though, not that there is anything wrong with tattoos in general.

But he's wrong about tribal tattoos. They are so much worse than this... Tribals are to tattoos what the 3Ninjas movies are to film. Utterly ridiculous and completely worthless unless you're purposefully enjoying them for the camp factor.

Both my biological uncle and his partner came into homosexuality in a very strange way and that is their words not mine. Both were married with children, and became friends while working together. Never once before or during their friendship was the notion of being homosexual ever a thing for either of them, and after a few years both of their marriages ended for different reasons and they decided to give up the whole women thing and started dating and became a couple. 40+ years later married, still in contact with their kids, and completely awesome but the Tattoo thing always made me laugh ironically.

Don't get me wrong I wasn't at all trying to imply that you had a problem with it. What i'm pointing out is that getting tattoos is a choice, like wearing your hair a certain way, or dressing a certain way. It's part of a lifestyle/fashion decision. It's not for everyone. And that's okay.

The term "Lifestyle Choice" has been used to demean and ridicule LGBTQ people and the general community for decades. It's a term that is used to strip validity from the very idea of a homosexual relationship.

You are not offending. But comparing sexuality to having tattoos is ridiculous.

And sexuality is not a choice or a phase. Society and culture can certainly make it difficult to find yourself of course.

I honestly really don't see me ever getting a tattoo. To me they're a novelty. I'd get some "oh cool" and maybe tell a few people about it if they ask but in the end it'd just be something marked on me.
