STASIS Kickstarter and Alpha demo up! (Eyecandy Isometric Adventure)

Let's make this a quick Kickstarter run to the goal. 24 hours to goal challenge? :P

Only if you wanna see a grown man cry...

Just finished the demo. Game oozes with atmosphere and I'm eager to support it though not on kickstarter. My only complaints are that the animation isn't as good as the art (there aren't many transition animations...Not to say that its bad., just lacking)and the character model looks muddier than the background(maybe just me). Also, I thought the game was going to be centered around that device that breaks down items into its basic components? Or did you scrap that concept and decide to go with more traditional puzzles?

The tool that breaks things down and stores them is just my hackneyed way to explain how someone in an Adventure Game has bottomless pockets.. :D
You do get access to some awesome scifi tools in the game, from XRay goggles to High Temperature Slug Guns.

The sprite is scaled at 200 x 200 in the game, and then resized up and down according to the scale of the level, so sometimes in the game he is being upscaled. That may account for the 'muddiness'.
Transition animations are really resource heavy, but this is still an alpha build, so anything is possible!

I will be running a paypal donation system if Kickstarter funding is successful, and there is also the Greenlight voting (which will open at the same time as the KS - so in a few hours), where if you cant support the KS, any votes make a difference!

Here we go! Thanks Toma, Master of the Independent Releases! hehe And congratulations Chris. Downloading and will try to run it on my Mac through emulation if not successful I'll try it latter at home. Let's make this a quick Kickstarter run to the goal. 24 hours to goal challenge? :P

If you happen to have it working let me know please.
I've tried on a Macbook via VirtualBox but I always get the FLSGetValue error.

I resorted using a friend uber PC (where I finally played just 5 minutes...and I really liked what I saw).
Today I tried the demo at work, on a completely different hardware (PC), but I got the very same error.

It installed and it run great through Winery. Played 15-20 minutes and loved it. Loved it. Loved it. Will finish it latter.

Just some stuff that I noticed Chris. Arythmia -> Arrhythmia, Fractured Ribs 3, 5, 11 and 14 (humans only have 12 pairs of ribs).

I wasn't able to save or there was no visual or textual feedback that I was able to successfully do it (maybe an emulation related bug ?? or is a feature not on the demo - will try on PC latter). And would love to have a small visual notification on the pointer that something in the environment is interactive.

Very atmospheric demo, really liking it so far. Looking forward to spend my money on a full proper release :)
Also, what is up with some of the signs in polish(sign above the cricuit breaker box in the infirmary)? Are those just placeholders?

The Groomlake is a multi national ship, with lots of different nationalities working on board. Later areas move into areas that are run by Japanese technology companies, and even Russian heavy weapon manufacturers...
The signs are there to give off the vibe of a large umbrella corporation, formed through the purchasing of thousands of smaller companies.

I actually have an entire history of Cayne Corporation written, from the founder Henry Cayne's birth, right up to the disappearance of The Groomlake from records.

I honestly have no idea if anyone will ever read a 10'th of what I've written, but its all there! :D

Maybe he adapted to the ship like in Pandora? Or these travelers were genetically engineered to endure space travel more efficiently?

Can't wait to try this today.

I thought you guys may dig this!

CRUSADER: No Remorse had a massive impact on me as an artist. To celebrate this amazing game, I have created another Isometric Lab. This one focuses on what I would love to see in a modern Crusader game!

Unfortunately not!

I occasionally enjoy mocking up screenshots of games I would love to see made. If you head over to www.stasisgame.com/labs you can see a few more!
Cool and thanks for the link. I had never heard of the series before, but it looks right up my alley

Man, if you actually were able to tackle a reboot with your style once you become known thanks to Stasis...that would be amazing. From those other Lab images, you guys are awesome at crafting atmosphere and tone

Worked like a charm!!!
I feel such an idiot...I had the demo 3 days ago!!!!

Playing right now, full screen...feels native....works like a charm.

Unfortunately seems that the save/load system doesn't work. AT least for me. And I just confirmed that it's a Wine emulation bug as on a PC I saved and load just fine. Were you able to save/load the game? If so then it's my puny MacBook's fault... ;)

Looks splendid, wish it was true :(

Backer #14 reporting for duty sir, yes sir! ARe you going to create a Kickstarter campaign thread Toma? If volunteer to do it.

Does the demo end after you take the morphine and watch a little sequence? Since it just exit back to desktop.

It was cool though

Added the tiers of the KS to the OP. Need to bug a mod to change the title later.

Seriously, KS with demos are the best kind of gaming KS, outside of maybe industry veterans reviving dead genres.

Best of luck!

Oh sh*" just jumped the gun and created a thread...

Dont ask me things and then do it without waiting for my answer anyway :p

We'll see, one thread will likely die down anyway, but I did plan this thread to include the KS stuff. But oh well! We'll see which thread survives. You got a nice banner though, if yours dies, I'll steal the banner from the dead thread corpse.

Ugh...still not able to get the demo running. But damn, those atmospheric environments look so good. Definitely seeing the gritty industrial influence of Alien and Sunshine.

I'd back but I'm out of KS funds after Paradise Lost and Confederate Express, but you got my Greenlight vote and I'll be buying this day one. As a fan of bleak gritty sci-fi, this looks so so good

Thousand sorries Toma! hehe I had some time to kill and went ahead and created the thread. Feel free to loot whatever you feel necessary of the corpse of my thread if it falls to the back pages limbo. ;)

Very, very impressed. Firstly the game's a visual knockout. Second, the puzzles in the demo were pretty much right on target; nothing screwy or illogical and there were a couple points where you had to think for a moment. Finally, I think it's backed up by a pretty reasonable story.

The downsides? Some odd pathfinding for objects which can't be interacted with. Log dialogue was too broad and straightforward. Loud automated voices. Nothing major really. The demo portion basically felt like release code.

Good work!

Doesn't work for me either (I used PlayonMac or something similar for winery...what do you use?).

Anyway....OMG!!!!
Just played in a dark room at work....till wife called me and brought me back into reality.
I didn't realize a solid hour was gone while playing.

Amazing stuff....such an awesome atmosphere!!!

It's been a while since I played a game on PC (can't stand it anymore...I prefer playing on iPad in bed)...Stasis will surely be the first in a looooong time (this couldn't stop me thinking how awesome an experience would be playing it in bed with headphone on iPad tough).

I agree..I thought the pathing was a bit strange as well.

The path finding will be the first thing I rip out and fix. ;) Then the doors....

The demo is so good that we almost forget that it's still alpha hehehehe I had some troubles with some visual feedback/cues but nothing too grating. I knew what to do with one specific puzzle but I wasn't able to click on the right spot to start the resolution.

Thread renamed. Thanks Kab :)

Was it
drilling to trigger the leak?
. It took me awhile to find the proper spot for that one and
I walked back and forth through both the infirmary and the the maintenance room thinking that I forgot an inventory item.

Exactly that one!

Man, I totally forgot you were the same guy who did the mock-ups for that post-apocalyptic stuff, that was awesome. Your art's some of the best isometric art I've ever seen.

Played the alpha a bit just now, before I had to do homework. Seems really promising, great sense of mystery and atmosphere.

Good luck with the Kickstarter, dude! I don't have money to throw at you now, if I did I would throw with all my might! :D

Off topic, but you're a student too? High school, college?

@ Chris - how soon will pre-orders through Paypal/Humble be available? I don't think I'll be able to back the game during the campaign but I certainly plan to preorder whenever it becomes avaialble

Yess. My first thought was, why isn't the pathfinding grid aligned to the same grid your geometry uses. Doors/pathfinding/moving, were my main gripes.

Which also brings me to, what kind of path finding solution are you using?
I would also suggest a small green arrow pointer/clicker on the ground when you click, letting you know where you are moving to, when you click. I found the character moving to places I didn't expect. (point might be null with better pathfinding).

Also I know people might complain, but it would be nice to know what you can interact with when you mouse over (doesn't need to be highlighted in the environment). Atm, you mouse over and get a text description, then I don't know if I can interact with it or not? Half the time I waste time walking up to objects that don't actually do anything, and just have flavour text. Some distinction would be great.

Apart from that amazing work, great sound so far, lovely visuals, its inspiring your doing it all yourself.
