STASIS Kickstarter and Alpha demo up! (Eyecandy Isometric Adventure)

College, yeah. I'm not taking many classes this semester, actually, but this week I suddenly have a bunch of homework from my classes I am taking, along with NaNoWriMo taking up time.
Nice, I'm a psychology major at SUNY Purchase. Only taking three classes this semester, but I know, it adds up. What's NaNoWriMo? I had been waiting for the next Creative Writing Challenge, but they said it was delayed till Dec because of that

Ah, cool. Psychology's something I've always found really interesting. I'm a Liberal Arts major (the most useful of all the majors), but once I finish my Associate's I'm going to go into Audio Engineering.

NaNoWriMo is this.

*snip*
Also I know people might complain, but it would be nice to know what you can interact with when you mouse over (doesn't need to be highlighted in the environment). Atm, you mouse over and get a text description, then I don't know if I can interact with it or not? Half the time I waste time walking up to objects that don't actually do anything, and just have flavour text. Some distinction would be great.
*snip*

I've already gave some feedback about that also. It would be great giving a subtle visual cue to what is interactive or not just hovering the pointer over the object.

Yeh, just the cursor could animate a little, maybe change to a hand or something just to indicate interactivity when you hover. Wanting people to 'cursor hunt' is a different discussion, a lot of people would say it ruins the experience if you just have everything highlighted. I would do that personally, put would put a lot of focus into the art so that objects draw attention correctly with lighting/animation/colour etc.

I'm glad I'm not the only one regarding indicators for object interactivity. Was going to post it but it feels like a bit of a touchy subject amongst point and click veterans.

Brian Fargo gave this a shout-out on twitter! Which I thought was cool :)

edit - oh, ha, I see he's quoted in the KS too :) I'm glad he's rooting for this anyway.

Probably not, as it isn't listed under the requirements, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Does the demo work on Windows XP? I'm stuck at a place with an ancient PC for the next 8 hours, with nothing to do. I'd really like to try the demo. I'm already leaning towards pledging on KS. Thanks!

Just do like us Mac people and download the demo and try it out. It's free! hehehe Of course you won't have to virtualize/emulate windows though. Good luck!

Been waiting for the KS! Backed based on atmosphere and setting -- abandoned spaceships are my favorite.

@chris_bischoff FYI the audio in the KS video, where you speak directly to the camera, is AWFUL. Too loud, distorted and sounds like it was recorded in a shipping container. If it's possible to redub those parts, I would really recommend it.

Also you might think about having a mid-level tier between $39 and $78. You're going to get a lot of $39 backers who could do a bit more but don't want to jump to $78, or don't need the physical box. Some digital add-ons for $10-20 would also solve this problem.

Other than that the KS looks really sharp. Having an alpha is huge, having finished assets is huge, and you emphasize those well.

Yeah oddly enough what is actually here is all very top quality stuff right down to what is already made in the demo, but the KS pitch video isnt so hot, mostly because of the way some of the footage and audio seems captured. (but its still better than most of the indie KS videos. )

This is going to be closer than I'd like but I'd still be amazed if it didn't pass the goal.

RPS will probably dig it and they can really bring in the money.

It really does look awesome. The opening cutscene alone is great stuff.

Only thing im not super thrilled with is the player movement seemed super slow. I realize this is an adventure game but i hope the player speed picks up at some point. I havent played the demo, just saw a video.

If you double click, the player runs.

17k in almost 24 hours isnt too bad with 100k as the goal. Has any website posted about it yet? Dont think we honestly need to worry about it, but lets keep pushing it a bit nonetheless. Mr. Bischoff needs some money ;)

I liked the demo. Reminds me of Sanitarium. It didn't run very well on my PC (I'll post my specs when I get home). It froze many times, the cursor didn't work, and sometimes it was very slow. Hopefully the demo is not optimized properly? Please? :)

Like some other people already said, objects that can be interacted with should be highlighted differently. I'm currently stuck on the tram section.

The text on the computer screens seems like a regular font. Maybe having a filter and making them less computer font and more artsy? I don't know, but it felt like I can copy and paste the text, or something that doesn't belong.

I've voted it up on Steam Greenlight and planning on pay for the kickstarter campaign. Great job!

I'll download the Alpha 1.002 update patch (http://www.stasisgame.com/getstasis/) to see if it fixes something for me.

Hey guys!

Damn...Im exhausted! 20% in 24 hours. Its a little surreal.

There have been a few posts about it.

Im hoping that more will follow!

Also wanted to point out that www.stasisgame.com/getstasis has an updated build of the game, with some tweaks that make it more awesome. Its small things, but if you havent downloaded it yet I recommend you do! And if you have Alpha 1.001 there is a patch there which will take you to Alpha 1.002.

What kind of tweaks did you make with the new patch? Are they specifically bug fixes or changes in some mechanics? I've played through the demo already so I'm keen on what you decided to fix.

Looks great, this recent surge of Kickstarter isometric adventure / WRPGs have been amazing. Definitely gonna check this out when i'm home later.

You fucking rock dude. I hope your KS will earn you bazylion of money.
I noticed your game year or so ago and from that moment i loved it.

Come on....after over an hour and the run prompt came up for the Alpha set-up. I run and now it's been an hour and nothing. This is like my fourth try to run the game

Am I the only one experiencing this?

Edit: finally...something's happening. Now I'll probably have to wait another hour

Wow launching a KS with a playable alpha. Hopefully this helps them more than hurts them. I really love the look, the drought of good adventures games is almost over.

Its bug fixes, and I added a label that was confusing some people. There are some sound updates.
If you have already played the game tho, it wont change your experience.

Between this and paradise lost there have been some pretty interesting sci fi indies on kickstarter recently

Just finished this after being stuck with the silly robotic surgeon arm.

I thought the freight elevator was the end of the alpha but wait! There's more!

Loved the whole thing. Managed to scare me about twice. Already backed.

So wait spend 5 bucks get wallpaper but not to the game?

Yep, almost every kickstarter has the lowest tier as a "supporter" tier where you get a thank you, or some small digital goodie but not the game.

Big update today with lots of world-building and background. He is very serious about creating a fleshed-out setting.

When I set out to create STASIS, what I wanted to focus on was the 'world building' aspect of creating a game. I feel that the best way to get a player engaged in your game is by making the world as realistic as possible. An element of history should be on every scrap of paper, every poster, every character. This is how games have lured me.

THE EUGENICS WARS

Blood was never shed on a battlefield during the Eugenics Wars. It was shed in underground bunkers and secret laboratories. Government-sponsored research departments pumped billions into genetic research. Cloning, limb regeneration, genetic augmentation, research into diseases that only attacked individual demographics... nothing was considered taboo.

As a fan of worlds-that-make-sense, I love this stuff.

Holy shit that guy is the poster in this thread.

Congratulations on all the work you've done so far, I'm telling as many people as I know to check out the project! Trying out the alpha this weekend.

Only slightly tangent here but it's so awesome I wanted to share.

This is what I played all night on my favorite adventure platform, iPad, all night in bed with headphones on.

AWESOME EXPERIENCE.

No...there isn't a iOS version...I used Splashtop with the alpha demo and worked like a charm

Who knows...maybe someday it will be a reality, I really hope for it. (I'll play the game on PC for sure nonetheless).

Oh nice, didn't knew about this. I remember posting in the other thread about this game, I'm very curious to see the final product.

After finishing Shadowrun Returns and waiting for Wasteland 2 release this game seems like a great fit and I'm loving the vibe. Hope he manages to release the game soon and it's great to have him on GAF as well. :)

Oh god, that sculpture...

I wish I had a spare $449 for that.
