I didnt know the unfinished reels were canon. I need to get those watched. Im almost dobe with dark disciple, but there are a lot more book I need to read. I didnt know there were that many young adult books.

I'm shocked I'm the first person to even mention this yet, but what I'm hoping, more than anything in the world, is some reference to Malla and/or Lumpy in SW7 to force the holiday special into canon status. Honestly that kind of tongue in cheek joke is precisely the sort of thing I could see Abrams doing in some off-hand Chewie/Han dialogue. To see George's face on having that thing legitimately taped to the Star Wars mythos would be glorious.

I think it's important to note that any character can brought back into canon, that doesn't mean the media they came from is canon. If Thawn is in something that doesn't make his books canon, if Revan suddenly appeared in something that doens't make anything from The Old Republic era canon.

It's always chuckles me how Death Stars might laser beam is meant for planetary annihilation but ended up useless since fleet eradicator would be much more useful.

I don't think the Empire thought an enemy fleet would be a problem, in their eyes they ruled the galaxy with overwhelming force and no one would match their strength or numbers. The Rebels have always relied on fighters and smaller scale strikes than a full on fleet, most of their ships were repurposed from other roles. The Death Star really only works well at destroying ships because it was unexpected, and the Rebels weren't actively trying to not be blown up by it, If they hadn't decided to stay and fight, and that their escape route was blocked they could have just jumped away. It also helps they went to the Death Star and not the other way around, a giant slow moving ball of death is only a threat to things that can't get away, like a planet.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but the "Servant of the Empire" YA novels are really good, especially if you like Rebels. They're not really dumbed down at all. In fact they're a lot better than the mess that was Heir to the Jedi.

Ill have to check them out. I did like Heir to the Jedi, so if these are better then good.

God, "canon" is so stupid, especially like this. It's just a cheap way for a billion dollar corporate content farm to value/devalue stories in order to manipulate consumers into getting excited for a whole "cinematic universe" of ultimately soulless films that will certainly bomb before you know it. What's even more heartbreaking is how much these "cinematic universe" behemoths suck it from legitimate, original filmmaking. Enjoy your Han Solo "origin story," I suppose. Yawn.

So is the notion there will be one source to find out what happened between Hope and Awakens (in a broad sense) laughable? I dont fancy reading 12 books with a little bit of info, I guess wikis will update and be a good source.

There's been a hell of lot of expanded universe content since the original films came out. A lot of it will conflict with the sequel trilogy and a lot of the anthology films they'll be releasing. It makes sense for them to clarify precisely what is canon or the whole thing becomes completely confusing. It was a necessity. But probably best to jump on the whole unoriginal filmmaking bandwagon instead.

I'm sure we won't HAVE to read anything to understand TFA. It's just extra fluff.

I read somewhere that the Inquisitors from Star Wars Rebels will tie into TFA.
Not true. Just meaningless fan speculation that went nowhere.

You aren't going to see anything from the animated series' in the movies. It's the same reason people who hope Sabine or Ahsoka show up in a movie are setting themselves up for disappointment.

Wookieepedia is such a mess now considering the elimination of the old canon. Those pages were built up over a decade and pages like Luke's still mesh the original trilogy story with 500 different EU materials. Does anyone know how they're handling the switch?

Those rumours about Felicity Jones playing Sabine were hilarious. It just wouldn't happen.

Nice work! I quoted it into the OP.

Thanks, I'll be trying to keep the list up to date.

They have two tabs at the top of each page for articles that have both canon and Legends stories. If a page is canon or Legends only, it doesn't have the tab to flip between articles.

The only thing that matters is Episode IV, V, and the stories I made up while playing X-Wing on the swingset at school in fourth grade.

Everything else is rabble and can easily be ignored without losing anything of value.

You can't really go into The Force Awakens by ignoring Return of the Jedi.

Unless his playground stories involved Vader dying by turning back to the light to save his son and kill the Emperor, Luke and Leia learning they are each others brothers and Leia confessing her love for Han. As well as Yoda dying then it won't work out well for him. ;) Those elements will carry forward.

Depends on how accurate his playground stories were.

They were quite vivid, but mostly just a bunch of action scenes with very little to push the narrative forward.

I honestly don't care too much about what is or isn't canon. Even in a franchise, I expect that each film should be able to stand on its own. Any links to previous/future films are nice for those who follow that sort of thing, but I won't be considering any continuity checklist when I decide whether or not I like the new film.
