Most notably, how much you play of games you own on Steam, not launch through Steam.
yeah true, i've got my GOG version of witcher 2 running through steam but it doesn't count how much i played it.

i'd put the increase in numbers down to HR and MW3/call of doody sale.

What did the original UI look like? Its tricky tracking it down on Google

I remember it looking like the small games list does now, but with some of the ugliest greens I've ever seen in my life.

Shiiiett. That .4 was just now playing the bastion demo. It chugs at times.

IIRC it was more bland, just plain green with no depth, there was no store/community/news/etc

Just server browser, game list, and friends list.

I haven't logged in to steam in 139 days! I've been away from PC gaming(well, all gaming basically) for over a year. I haven't even played the games I bought during last xmas sale because I don't have anything to play them on.

Kind of looking forward to getting back into gaming, whenever that happens.

I used to do it in CS, you can type some command in the console to find it. Not sure what that is anymore. Something like player_info

Since HL2's launch, holla.

My Red Orchestra 2 beta play time seems to have vanished though, odd.

It was truly atrocious. Sometimes I wonder if my friends I spent more time trying to find each other in games of CS and DOD than we did playing them.

"I'm online, just join my game."
"It says you're not online!"

I had friends I played with every day who STeam thought hadn't logged in for months.

I know for a fact that I was one of the absolutely first to use Steam Community though so technically I'm a Steam veteran... for as long as it's been great!

Orin has you all beat off of one game. Looking at my friend activity section I notice one person has pushed one game into the top 5 overall played for the last two weeks!

They should reward day one members (September 12, 2003) somehow.

Give us something special, Gabe

Haha i have found this to be the case with me as well. Even my 65 year old mom has steam installed. She now knows where to find me. That lady has like 250 hours on Chains 2

A lot of people I know don't buy games on steam because most people overhere don't have credit cards.
People don't really like using credit cards overhere.
I know that in the US everyone and their dog has one or more but that isn't the case overhere. And it's part why retail is more popular in parts of Europe. If valve would sell pre paid cards in stores then steam would be an even bigger succes imo.

what did Sony say over 75 million users or something. /runs
Total accounts, this is concurrent users.

Steam has 30+ million active accounts, but they don't actually release the total account figure, since non-active accounts aren't that useful to them.

If I'm thinking of the same statement as you, Sony said they have that many registered users on PSN, which is an entirely different deal.

edit - beaten lol

I wonder how much that number will be inflated with TF2 smurfs. I personally have 7 accounts that could be considered "active" because I bought keys and upgraded them for idling purposes.

I seem to remember an account was considered active if it had been accessed within the last 30 days.

Is that the amount of people playing games, or just the client running ?

just the client running, only a fraction are playing games, it lists the top 100 games by number of people playing on the stats page too

Apparently Steam doesn't count games not bought on Steam? I've been playing LoL almost all day everyday for the last week or two via Steam, so yeah.

Congrats to Steam/Valve. I'd like to know how many BF3 sales are lost because it isn't on Steam, if any.

I actually had to stop playing HL engine games for a while because people kept checking Steam IDs in Counterstrike/TF2 and constantly trying to offer me their account so they could get my 4-digit SteamID.

I think that's mostly died off now (hopefully)

I also remember when Steam Friends was an absolute joke. Couldn't even log in most of the time.

Yeah.

I wonder why my registration date is so much later (Feb 2004) when I bought and registered HL2 much earlier than when Steam came out (it came with my 9800 Pro video card). Oh well, it doesn't really matter.
