Neither of them give out real numbers for the most part. They only say how many accounts are created. Though we occasionally get a Gold number from MS, which is a bit better.MesserWolf said:Do we have a benchmark to compare it ? what's the figure for live or psn ?
As already mentioned early, PSN had 75million accounts, Steam announced it had 30million active accounts. Valve didn't count accounts not used in the last month, while Sony counted everything. There are also other factors like people creating multiple accounts for each region on PSN, while that isn't as much of a factor on PC.
This really isn't something to downplay. In less than 2 years, it went from 1.6mil to 4mil for peak hour usage. It went from 3 million to 4million in less than a year(Was around Thanksgiving/Christmas to get pass it last year). Its still growing and only growing faster with their strongest card yet coming out(F2P DOTA). Probably took around 8-9 months for this million. I'm kind of expecting it to pass 5mil in 6-7 months. This Holiday season alone we have; Deus Ex, Space Marine, Dead Island, War in the North, Saints Row III, Modern Warfare III, Skyrim, RAGE, and more. All requiring Steam usage. More F2P games are bound to hit, the big Steam Sales always grow the user base by a few 100k, and DOTA 2 beta begins. With non of it being tied to 300$ systems and 100million+ advertisement campaigns.
