I'll be in the Euro race, though I am waaaaay out of practice :)
I wanted to share my qualifying and race settings in case you needed some. Just extract and then copy/paste into your rFactor>UserData>name>Settings>Toban Long folder.

You're Nick Toma, right?

Race Results

I haven't really prepared for tonight's race yet but I did do a few practice races against the AI today. ;)

I'm super pissed! I spent two hours preparing for this race but the server password was pulled down at the beginning of qualifying instead of at race time. It doesn't make any sense and I'm really disappointed because Toban is my favorite track for rFactor.

Grr!

Edit: I just looked at the race results and I easily could have won based on the leader's lap times. Extra Grr!!

Yeah that's me. I was saying in chat that the default setup should just be renamed "Major Understeer" or "Lack of control". I was suprised that I managed to not finish last! :)

It was fun though. Sucks that they locked the server before you could get on.

edit: Oh, if you happen to have a setup for Essington then i'll gladly take that too! :)

Lewis Hamilton doing some promo work for rFactor/Tag Heuer at the Chinese GP.

I wonder how it compares to Mclaren's testing sim, which is allegedly not based on rFactor Pro.

How did you get on in the rTrainer Essington race?
I finished in second place. And while that doesn't make up for the frustration of missing out on Toban (which I still believe I could have won) it was nice to be on the podium. Everybody in this season/league is really fair and respectful on track, which makes the racing incredibly fun.

Street cars. Repurchased Shift during the Steam sale and have really enjoyed the modded Ferrari DLC . But I was just thinking I'd probably enjoy the cars even more if they were in rfactor. The Overhaul 2.0 mod drastically improves Shift, but it's still no rfactor when it comes to realism.

I'll give that one a try. Thanks.

The Endurance Series mod might also be worth checking out. In addition to the Ferrari F430, you'll also get the Peugeot 908, Audi R10, Acura ARX-01, Porsche RS Spyder Evo, and the Saleen S7R. Possibly a Porsche 911 and an Aston Martin as well.

If anybody is looking for an inexpensive video card to play rFactor (or any other game), Newegg has the MSI R5770 Hawk on sale right now for $130 ($99 after mail-in rebate).

An update on rFactor 2...

Scott Juliano said:
The last track is about 78% done now (I mean last track for the initial release--there will be plenty more to come after that)--it's basically missing vegetation, a few props, and grandstands/crowds. The amount of work that has gone into this is... I can't put it to words. Belgium is 14KM long. While this track is nowhere near that, the details and shear amount of stuff in the confines of the track--insanity

The reason for the lack of updates lately, really, is that we've been working on a lot of core features--can't really show that in a screenie. Plus, I really didn't want to show anything else until our new graphic features that will make us current (post FX, and some other cool new stuff) are in and looking as they should. That also won't be long I think. We had to put them on hold for a bit as other game related features took priority, but we'll be back to them shortly. So new media hopefully won't be too far behind. Besides, it will give me and Luc a chance to finish off this last track, which is really what we'd like to show next. So, it all works out.

Someone above mentioned that we haven't said much about physics updates, etc. That's not really my area to be able to explain it properly; but, what I can honestly tell you is that I can no longer play rF1 after driving rF2 with the new tire model, new FFB, etc. I just can't do it. rF2 feels THAT good.

So, we haven't stopped working (just the opposite--working even more now than we were--probably why we've been so quiet), and we are making good progress, and new information isn't too far away, I think. So hang tight--we haven't forgotten about you all. I think 2011 is going to be a good year.

Excellent.

Will build a balls-out-blazing PC for Live for Speed S3 and rFactor 2 to enjoy them at their fullest, my ancient rig chokes with rF and LFS S2 when running with full grids and maximum settings :(

Just to eliminate the obvious, but you're not running a GTX 460 with the map plug-in are you? Because even though rF has very modest requirements, that plug-in butchers my performance. Had to get rid of it.

no, my system just isn't that very powerful.

is there a single download for the zakspeed ford capri? i've searched but it only seems to be in the drm mod which i don't want.

Why not just use the full DRM mod? I could probably pull the Capri out for you but there's no guaranteeing it will work. Would you rather drive a normal one instead?

I've had the game sat here a while and at the moment just making room on the hdd to install it (+ mods), retried the demo a few months back and to be honest it looked terrible, I'm just wondering do any of these mods improve the lighting?

I've heard a rumor that we should be getting an approximate release date within the next week or two. :)

I think I mentioned a while back that not all series might make the initial release--those that don't make the initial will come online as we get them finished to a state we're satisfied with. Also, after release we'll be updating series with new cars and tracks, as well as introducing other new series. So, like rF1, rF2 will be an ever-growing product with new content, updates, etc. Long story short, if we don't have something you want initially, chances are we or someone else will bring it to you at some point

Also, there are some cars missing from these renders so you're STILL not seeing everything we currently have in store.

i found the drm capri and it works :)

i also did a system reformat and rfactor's performance has shot up dramatically :D

Targa is nearly here :D

While rFactor’s life cycle is slowly coming to its end with rFactor 2 around the corner, the simulation receives another huge content addon as the legendary Targa Florio is due to be released in three days time!

The Targa Florio Conversion Team has released the following little teaser, getting everyone revved up for the release of of their massive project. Located on the Italian Island of Sicily, the 72 kilometer Targa Florio is quite possible the longest and most challenging race track in the history of motorsports. Being more than 3 times as long as the already daunting Nürburgring Nordschleife, this track takes a life time to master. The Targa Florio hosted iconic sports car races until the mid 1970s as insanely powerful sports cars and prototypes blasted through the countryside and the countless little vilages. When safety became a concern, racing on the Targa was cancelled with the exception of local Italian rallys but rFactor users will be able to relive the thrill of driving this Italian roller coaster thanks to the Targa Florio Conversion Team.

Based on the original version for Grand Prix Legends, the conversion team has equipped the track with high resolution textures and plenty of other improvements and tweaks that result in a high-quality product.

With my new wheel I feel like I should eventually actually get rfactor. Been busy playing Race 07, that game is heaven with it.

I need to get back to playing this game.

As an American, I've never heard of that Italian event. Sounded pretty epic, though. Downloading and will give it a chance soon.

Forgive my ignorance. My G25 came packaged with an rFactor disc. Anyone know if it's a full version, or is it some kind of demo/trial?

Nvidia Inspector Guide

Program download here.

What is it? Well Nvidia Inspector is really just an interface that shows you what the built-in Nvidia Control Panel makes it a pain in the ass to find or straight up doesn't tell you about. It also enables image quality whores to step their game up to the next level.

So yeah once you have it downloaded, click this:

nv1ovof.jpg

That button opens up this, where all the magic happens:

nv2y3l2.jpg

The program defaults to the Global Profile. These settings will apply to all game unless their specific profiles tell it otherwise. There are a couple things you should tweak in here as 99.9% of games should be using them. These settings are:
-Anisotropic Filtering Mode: User-defined/Off
-Anisotropic Filtering Setting: 16x

This link will explain why: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anisotropic_filtering

This setting won't screw anything up with in-game AF or cause any issues except in AVP 2010 and Crysis 1 (POM). In those games individual profiles, you can set it to "Off."

By setting this in Global, it will save you the trouble of setting it every time and acts as a safety because not all games have the option in video settings nowadays. Also it has a fucking minuscule impact on performance.

Finer Tweaking
Alright so once you got the global config set you can hop to an individual game profile. Nvidia has pretty much all modern titles with profiles set up, but the top bar has buttons that will let you make new profiles, delete profiles, add/remove EXEs for games. The reason you will want to go to individual game profiles is to tweak Anti-aliasing and SLI compatibility bits. These change on a game to game basis and bits/settings that work for one game might not work with other games.

So why would you want to change these settings? Well a shit load of games nowadays don't ship with anti-aliasing settings built in or too few options for it. Games like Need for Speed 2010, Darksiders, Mass Effect and many more. Nvidia has given a number of these games comapatibility bits by default, but they don't always have the best ones selected. If you want to find a better AA comp or one that actually works these lists is invaluable:

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=336854
http://translate.google.com/transla...letin/archive/index.php/t-490867.html&act=url

Once you have a proper AA compatibility profile plugged in, you can go wild with the AA settings. Make sure you have AA mode set to override first though. If you want to step your game up even further, you can go into AA Transparency Supersampling and use Sparse Grid SSAA. Your Sparse-Grid setting should match the MSAA setting you have enabled so 4x Sparse Grid should be used with 4xMSAA. Here is an example of a screen that is properly configured for Sparse-Grid SSAA:

nv3kq57.jpg

You will notice under the Texture Filtering section that the Texture Filtering - LOD Bias has also been tweaked. This setting is used to counter the softness of SSAA on the image. I usually find that -1.5 does the trick for 4x Sparse Grid, but you should adjust as you see fit. THIS SETTING SHOULDN'T BE USED IF YOU ARE JUST USING STANDARD MSAA.

There is also some nifty things like Ambient Occlusion profiles in the program which are neat to experiment with, but come with a hefty performance hit.

And that's all I can think of.

Courtesy of Stallion Free in the "Pro PC" thread. Most mid-range and up cards should be able to do 1080P, crank up the super high quality AA, and hold 60fps.
