I expect this is because del Toro decided to devote his career to play Pappy McPoyle?
I love Michael Bay, but are you sure the Transformers movies even have scripts aside from the first one?
Del Toro's strengths are not in directing and especially not in writing, so I'm fine with this.
How the fuck did Del Toro get knocked off his own film?
Isn't this Del Toro's brainchild, his passion project?
What the fuck, dude.
Rian Johnson?when's the last time a tv director of a popular show directed a good movie?
Rian Johnson?
Honestly the best asset of PR, was the colorful and "different" visual design.
As long as they don't tone that down, it'll probably be fine.
Also, don't find an excuse to try and set it in the US.
What!!! Pans Labyrinth's existence tells me you are somehow incapable of rational judgement if you have seen that film and believe this.
Pacific Rim 2 isn't going to be written in Spanish, though, is it? I can't believe I'm getting so much shit for implying that the writer of Hellboy, Hellboy 2, Pacific Rim and The Strain isn't a master fucking scribe.
he sucks ass when he makes english films tbh. i'm with you on that. his spanish language films were pretty decent though.
and i'll say he has impeccable production design in all of his films. that's probably the only constant in quality that you'll find in his filmography. man works better on a conceptual level.
So disappointed. DeKnight is not a bad director, but he's not Del Toro. I don't know if he'll be able to make a film as visually stunning as the first one.
I'd prefer to see Del Toro working on something other than sequels so I have no issue with this.
Some people think PR1 was bad? Wut?
The movie did everything it tried to do.
Del Toro's strengths are not in directing and especially not in writing, so I'm fine with this.
I want to know if this is GDT's idea or the studio.
Seems weird of Legendary to fire FDT.
I imagine he became committed to something else while the project was temporarily cancelled. He has been tweeting about it, so I imagine he's still on board but whether it's a consultancy role or as a producer, who knows.
I imagine that he's been 'grandfathered' into an Executive Producer role but given the poor performance of Crimson Peak (and the original PR to an extent) I've not doubt that Legendary made the decision to push him aside.
It speaks volumes that Del Toro's next film is a lower budget fantasy at Fox Searchlight.
Where's my Godzilla x Pacific Rim movie?
I'm in the minority of GAF that thought Pacific Rim was pretty bad to the point where I almost walked out of the theater. Maybe new director will do something I find enjoyable with it.
In all seriousness, I feel more or less the same, although not to the point of feeling like walking out of the theater.
No Del Torro?
