Steven Universe Season 3 |OT| Clods Among Us

I know that the Crewniverse has said in the past that they don't really write for seasons anymore, instead focusing on episode/Steven Bomb arcs. But there's some really interesting parallels and contrasts with how Season 3 began and how it ended.

Season 3 began with Super Watermelon Island and Gem Drill. There, Malachite was soundly defeated and Lapis was saved. Lapis also eventually decided to stay on Earth and became an unofficial team member. More importantly, however, Steven was able to stop the Cluster of all things through non-violent means by talking to it and pacifying it. He also ends up driving the Rubies away through trickery. Then we get a string of episodes in Beach City where Steven is just living life until Jasper and later Bismuth ruin things.

Bubbled Full Episode Spoilers:
However, this season ends with Steven being unable to save Jasper from herself in Earthlings, learning that his mom flat-out killed someone in Back to the Moon, and then Steven being forced to "kill" someone himself by throwing Eyeball into space. You can also factor in Steven being forced to stab and poof Bismuth in her episode. Steven and the show itself end this season in a much less optimistic place than they did at the start.
 
Something funny about these last two episodes was how
much of extremist Eyeball turned out to be. Some were expecting her to secretly support the rebellion but it tuned out to be the opposite.

I want to believe. But apart from Amethyst's new form, Lapis and Peridot joining, and possibly (Kindergaten Kid speculation)

, there's not too much they could add? Maybe add Vidalia to the background with all the Beach City people.

I'd like to see Peridot and Lapis singing along, but Peridot is the only new official member, while Lapis just hangs around. Garnet, Pearl, and Amethyst are still clearly the main Crystal Gems, since they're the ones who were with Steven during stuff like Bismuth and him finding out Rose shattered Pink Diamond. Best case scenario is them being a part of the group after the warp, and then being with everyone at the beach at the end.

Saw Bubbled, and while it
is more, I guess you can say small and personal compared to Jailbreak, it feels more like an epilogue to a big season finale. Season 1 finale was The Return and Jailbreak, while this season finale was Beta, Earthlings, Back to the Moon, and Bubbled. All four episodes really work well together when treated as a 4 part finale.

Also there is like no more room for the Rose is Pink Diamond theory or that Rose didn't really shatter Pink Diamond. Garnet specifically says that Rose did indeed shatter her.

You forget to take into account that when Season 3 was being written up, they were still thinking of it as part of Season 2. So it technically starts at Full Disclosure. Chew on that.

Season 2/3 - Empire Strikes Back
Season 4/5 - Return of the Jedi

Thematically, of course.

I dislike your theory solely because it presupposes that Steven Universe will end at Season 5. /s

Seriously though, good point. Most of the latter-half of Season 2 dealt with redeeming Peridot, so it would fit with the string of victories Season 3 started with.

We even saw it happen to Eyeball in this episode when a small asteroid hit her square in the gem and cracked it. She would have been done for if Steven hadn't healed her. And then she tries to kill him. Wow, thanks...
 
Joined the Dark Side, ate cookies, watched leak.

I'll admit, the first few episodes this season didn't tickle my fancy (
Steven Universe n(OT4) enough singing and crying
), but overall a very good season.

The only thing I'm having a problem with is the back and forth between Beach City / Gems on Earth / Actual Story Progression episodes, but given the 11-minute format, I'm not sure if they could really keep up with everyone in any other way and not have it be equally jarring.

Too used to longer format shows with A/B plots, which is on me.

Like that things have taken a turn towards the grim. As hard as it is to watch, this show always deals with emotion better than 99.9% of every other show I've ever seen.
 
The only way
Rose didn't shatter PD is if she lied to the gems about it too. The event happened, or at least it looked like it did. But if there was another truth behind it, she didn't tell you Crystal Gems. And since we saw she didn't tell them about Bismuth either... well, it's a possibility.
 
That was a fairly dark episode, but I thought the heavier tone was appropriate as a season finale. Steven's gonna be burdened by that knowledge. Can't wait to see what happens.

Now on to Season 4!

I feel like that was the point of the Bismuth episode in the first place, to prove to the audience that what people thought about Rose wasn't completely true. Actually, that was the whole point of this entire season I felt, that Steven only knew a very small part of who his Mom really was, and that perceptions can be flawed.

An interesting (and infuriating) way to keep fans speculating on what is the truth, and what the Crystal Gems think is the truth.
 
hmmm having watched the episode

While its still not showing her doing these actions im more willing to take Garnet's explanation at face value than some Ruby who got fooled so damn easily many times.

Unless Rose covered up what really happened (Aizen style shikai abilities up in this business) :O :O

The only rubies i will miss are Leggy, Navy (especially) and Doc, RIP *pours 40*


Also should be interesting to see how Steven deals with another wrinkle that involves his Mom.

First it was HW Gems having beef because they think he is her, then the Crystal Gems having issues due to his origins and now learning that she had to do questionable things in order to protect the things she cares for.

On to Season 4
 
Bubbled was kinda underwhelming,
was expecting a bit more. However, it closed up the speculation pretty tightly between Rose and Pink Diamond, she really did shatter her. It's interesting to wonder what this means for Steven, will he become more open to the idea if push comes to shove or keep finding another way, this episode showed him again talking won't always work. Whatever the outcome it seems like he has accepted it After watching these episodes my opinion of Rose hasn't changed too much, I think she had a good intentions but the Bismuth thing is still really messed up. Welp that closes out the season and they got a ship now so that's cool.

does anybody notice how strong he is becoming. Like woah Spikes on bubble, plus being able to extend it.

Watching Rose hulk-out on the ferris-wheel in the babysitter episode makes me think he's going to get a hell of a lot stronger as he gets older. Stronger than Garnet, and maybe even Jasper. And Stevonnie will be a diamond-fighting beast of a fusion.

I think he is stronger than all the crystal gems so far. just lacks training and exp.

By the way, after looking at the Diamond murals, it seems to me that what White Diamond holds all along in her hands is Homeworld... Why me so blind.

Also with the way things have gone I think we might not be seeing Jasper redeemed after all.

I really like the 11 minute format. it makes every chapter super concise and to the point. the lack of a b-plot also helps a lot

tho some of the beach city episodes do feel unnecessary. sadie really needs to move on from lars

Oh, Jaspers gonna get redeemed.

But yeah ... dark episode when you get past it feeling like a whole lot of nothing happened.

Steven goes out of his way to make Eyeball feel better by being all "SEE!?! I'm Rose! You were really disappointing you couldn't see Rose right? Welp, here I am!". He didn't seem to factor in the fact that she would want to kill Rose.
He basically killed the 5 Rubies for no reason other than being upset and not thinking it through. They're stuck in space with no propulsion system or ships, just waiting to get shattered one way or another.
 
I spent most of Bubbled being pissed off at the fact the Bubble was accelerated by meteor collisions (which should have poofed Ruby at the speed they travel at anyway), and then decelerated despite there being no friction in space.

Just so you know.

the final and does it air tomorrow? Or is it officially season 4 and starts next week?
 
This episode really gives me the feeling that something really bad might happen to Steven by the end of the series. I don't exactly know why, but it's the same kind of feeling I get watching certain anime.
 
Well, that's certainly much more authoritative confirmation than we'd gotten previously.

There's still some unresolved questions and weirdness, but the overall story is pretty credible.
