Street Fighter IV is 5 years old today

Say what you will, but this game/series managed to re-vitalize the Fighting Game scene.

I really dislike its damage scaling and combo system, although I have my own idea of how to alter that.

I've bough my first Arcade Stick to play it and now i'm not even touching it due to being burned with so many rereleases.

Why do you consider it a burn when Capcom updates and supports their game at the request of the fans of the game and the series, in order to keep everyone playing and continually interested? This line of thinking baffles me. Perhaps my line of thinking baffles you, who knows.

I want scotland to have a lovely racist stereotype character rep too. The guy in the tartan apron from the distillery stage would be marvelous. He'd definitely have a Caber Toss special move and swigging whisky would improve his abilities.

SFIV brought fighting games back from limbo. People discovered and rediscovered their passion for testing your skill against an opponent one-on-one. People complain about the updates and rereleases, but that has kept the game fresh and exciting to play. We went from 25 characters in Vanilla to 39 now in AE, through several balance changes and 5 new characters will be added soon. There is still life in this game and judging by the popularity of this game in the tournament scene, it will be like that for at least a few more years. We like to complain about a lot of things Capcom has done wrong, but this SFIV era has been awesome. For that, I thank them

Oh forgot to say my fave SF characters:

In that order.

My most played game of the generation hours-wise, by a long way. Incredible, incredible game. Worth every penny all the times I've bought it.

Me too, I think. But I'm currently a bit tired of SFIV. Love what it's done to the genre though, no denying it.

As for fave SF character - Well, Ryu isn't my avatar for no reason. Except, err...I main Fei Long because he's just wat more enjoyable to play in SFIV than Ryu is.

She's just so mad (and awesome)

I'm not sure SF4 single handedly saved the fighting game scene, but it sure did a hell of a lot of good for it. Great game, still love watching it at Evo.

I'd wish they would fix that damn random button tho. I've well over 3k matches played with random, and I have a HIGHLY uneven pick statistic.

I got viper with u2 4-5 times in a row TWICE already. I could have won the lottery instead, the odds are so low. >_>

I've played this game since launch, and its still just as fun as it was 5 years ago. It's always evolving with people finding out new "tech". And those desk combo videos make my pants wet.

I do wonder about that. It definitely seems weighted. We get Ultra 2 Viper mirrors more often than we should. A lot of El Fuerte too. I dunno if it's my least played characters or not.

Since Alpha 2.Second favorite is probably Makoto. I need to pick her back up when Ultra comes out.

Pretty much the same deal for me. ( though i liked Makoto much better in Third Strike) I was really good with Sakura but i kinda fell of with SF and i have been meaning to get back into it lately, AE is sitting on my shelf and my arcade stick is collecting dust under my bed.

Love this lady, sooooo many moves and so much variation to the usual shoto characters that I got bored of. I'm better with Balrog and Vega but this lady is just too fun to play with!

well im old

we're posting main?

played a bunch of Abel and Chun-Li on IV, then from Super onwards, it was all about:

Yup. I'm fairly certain the majority of the people who complain about it don't play SF4, haha.

Remember when Capcom was sort of good this gen, guys? I miss those days.
I never got into SFIV much, but I was definitely happy it was released and supported it anyway.

Capcom USA still is pretty good in my book, they just seem to have their hands tied by Capcom Japan.

I love this game. Bought a TE Fightstick on release because I wanted to be able to play @ the arcade too.

Almost never play at arcade anymore but I keep coming back to this title, EVO got me playing a bit again.

I remember back when the game had superb graphics...
These days it's not impressive at all though.

After playing it a lot for a year or 2 or 3, I kinda got burned out of SF4 and most fighting games.

Man, that EGM brings back memories. That article got me so hyped in a way most articles about games don't. I don't even know how since I don't really like SF that much as far as fighting games. After reading it I was like "I have to pick it up," but I never did. I did end up renting the game (and later SSF4) a few months after launch but I found I didn't really like it compared to stuff like BlazBlue, so I never bought it. Despite this I've spent a ton of time watching SF4 on fighting game streams >_>.

The best thing to come out of SF IV to me was the revival of good Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct and the resurgence of the fighting game genre in general.

I barely played fighting games until SFIV, my experience of mostl fighters was basically getting my ass handed to me on the PS2 iterations of Soul Calibur and Mortal Kombat in multiplayer because I had no idea what I was doing and was essentially forbidden from looking at the move lists, so yeah that did a fine job of putting me off most of the genre.
I did however have SF2 turbo on the SNES and though I had no clue how to play that one either it held some nice nostalgic memories of Dhalsim wrecking my shit because he was clearly cheating with his teleporting and stretchy limbs, so anyway upon seeing SFIV and its eye catching art direction I decided that this time i'd figure the genre out, fortunately one of my other friends with no fighting game experience tagged along for the ride which was probably the biggest benefit of all. See now we could learn from each other going from barely able to throw a hadouken to our currently grand status of being average at best, but hey that's fine by me.

SFIV has swallowed up many hours of mine in multiplayer, it's become one of my favourite games of this generation, it reintroduced me into an entire genre and for that I thank it.
I've played many other fighters since but none feel quite as right to me as SFIV and with the Super update I finally understood why getting excited for a game update was totally understandable.

Ah. Makoto . My favorite Street fighter character. Gotta love her dedication and brutal fighting style.

Still. Almost hard to believe it's been 5 years since the game released...

Thank this guy

he gave up his health for our entertainment. Seriously SF4 is the only reason i still love Capcom, if you ask me they have handled this franchise beautifully this gen.

My fav characters for SF4:

I pretty much hate every new character from SF4 vanilla.

I played a lot of SF2 as a kid, but pretty much skipped over Third Strike (played a bit later). When SFIV was announced, I picked up HDR because I couldn't wait. I got SFIV day one and have been playing off and on ever since.

I can't say I have a favorite character because I like so many of them. The balance in the game now is just unbelievable. I hope they can keep that with Ultra SFIV.

Great to see a five year old console game still getting love from the fans and support from the devs. I know some are mad that Capcom didn't abandon it years ago, but fuck them. Im so glad Capcom paid them no mind.

Capcom USA don't make or develop anything.

Ironically SFIV wasn't made by Capcom it was made by Dimps which is run by the creator of Street Fighter, Fatal Fury and KOF.
