I love playing as Birdie, but good Nashes seem to wreck him. Or it could be I'm just really bad with him, a distinct possibility.

Ended the night 11-4 before I have to get off to do other things with Birdie. I kinda of like him even though he isn't really the kind of archetype I usually play. Though I wonder one things about his specials.
His buffalo headbutt (the charge P then release) when are the i frames on it? I beat a Bison doing Psycho Inferno on my wakeup, I got it as a reversal and it went through it and killed him. But other times it seems to get beaten on startup. Did they add more iframes if it's a reversal?
Also his jump grab (qcb K) man I suck at using it as an anti-fireball. I always think the startup is faster than it is and I get hit at the beginning or I do it too early and get hit on my descent down.
One cool thing with Birdie is if you do his overhead (f.HK) as a meaty on their wakeup. You can link a cr.lp after and if you are close enough st.lp into dashing headbutt. Though a lot of times I'm a little further out that st.lp would miss, so in that case I just try to get a some cr.lp in after f.HK.
Also some weird thing but my level seems to fluctuate. Sometimes I get a level and the next match screen I look at it and it wasn't the level I was expecting. There doesn't seem to be an rank degradation, so maybe it miscalculates the points I receive sometimes.

you can do fuzzy guard setups with her j lk and j mp
you can just straight jump back mp against birdie and it's an instant overhead :3

Dat moment when you finally realized something important. I've gotten beaten kind of badly by similar skilled Chun players because I'm still playing them thinking they have hazanshu to nullify my fireballs. So I try to challenge them upclose and it's a disaster because Chun's normals own Ryu. But that move is gone now so I'm free to throw fireballs at will as long as I keep a look out for jumps and her Super. After 6 years of focus back dash and hazanshu in reaction to my fireballs, fuck you Chun. Now what you going to do about my fireballs? Jump? I'll be ready for that.
Duh. That's why it's funny to see concerns about zoning viability. Zoning is actually better so far than in 4, even with the plethora of V-skills to nullify projectiles. None of them are as convenient as a focus attack.
The Rank system is kinda weird in this. So far I've seen:

I think Ryu himself actually shits on any fireball lol. Because of his V-Skill, building that V-trigger is really important and you aren't really at risk for attempting to parry the fireball. And once he is in Denjin mode, his fireballs are a pretty huge threat, with how fast they are and delaying them can be pretty tricky.
Chun can slide under fireballs but it gets tricky if he is in denjin mode and she really doesn't get too much off landing a cr.mp and it's pretty bad if it gets blocked deep. Though if Chun is within footsie range, you can outpoke Ryu. I think her v-skill is a pretty poor anti-fireball move. You have to do it pretty early because there have been many times I got hit on the ascent trying it.

i was bet test fighter fought a match, saw i was a beta test master now. won my match and now im a beta test fighter again even though i havent lost in 3 matches.
It'd be interesting if the game actually displayed an opponent's connection type.

I had that happen to me. I think it's because the super startup is pretty damn fast. Though if he is in Denjin mode and if they cancel into it from a blocked normal, you pretty much are guard broken.
I'm enjoying the fireball game a lot more in this one. It feels more natural and basic, and to me that makes every fireball seem even more important.

It's probably because it starts up too fast. Think of his critical art like Ryu's Super from SF4 and not his Ultra. His super is 3 frames and unless you're half screen, you can't jump it after the Super pause. Same probably goes for his critical art. Considering he can use it after a LK tatsu, it has to be really fast. Maybe not 3f, but no more than 5 IMO.
Pretty much, I've broken a lot of guards doing that.
I find that to be bullshit when Nash's CA takes forever and you can be jabbed out of it.
Sweeps being so easily punishable STILL doesn't stop people from doing their standard "jump in...INTO SWEEP!"
I'm seriously just holding forward reacting to jump ins and blocking/punishing sweeps. I love new players but...fucking hell.
edit: lol...wow. I quoted you and just blanked out after a match. I was SUPPOSED to say, I'm getting tons of matches while yesterday I was getting none.

With all the talk about "blonde fighter V" I decided to make up this handy chart. I even broke the characters up into racial categories (although maybe I shouldn't have, I hope I don't end up offending anyone or sparking controversy...)
If I made any mistakes or missed anyone, let me know. Looking at it, it's crazy that a full half of the white characters are blonde even though in real life I'm quite certain it's got to be a lot less than that.

I remember that there was a pic of his mom and dad, his mom actually is indian and his dad british, which makes sense because India and Britain do have a lot of history together.
