It's not as simple as that. The actual programming is probably written in such a way that it requires online functionality to even access the training portion.

That would probably be a huge additional amount of work to just get a separate training mode available for offline play. (They would need to patch the beta).

They are better off just fixing the game.

Lol half the people who are in probably already cancelled the Amazon preorder 1 minute after receiving their code. I know I did because I'm getting it on PSN eventually

If you pre-ordered from PSN (as I did), you knew you were paying for the game and that a refund wasn't going to be the option.

The beta(s) will still happen. Just a matter of when. And hopefully the game avoids server side issues because of this kerfuffle when it comes out.
 
I think it'll be okay if you keep a pre-order. I know for sure some of us enjoy SF to want a copy of the next installment. I'm happy with the money I put down on PSN already. I know it'll be worth the investment now. If this was SFxT then I might have said something different, but this isn't the same exact thing.
 
I've been out for a few hours. How's things? Is it back up yet? I managed to get a couple of games in and 15 mins of training mode in the early afternoon then got kicked.

i got to see it for about 5 minutes last night (after trying for like 3 hours) and it was outstanding. I have to tell you though the itch to get to play someone was getting strong even in that short time.

If you ordered from a place that you can't get a refund from and put down full price on the game, I don't think you'll get much, if any, sympathy.

The beta will be fixed. Once it's fixed, you'll get your chance. After that, other betas will come and you'll get to play those too. The end.

I'm just curious as to how people were able to get into training mode and stay there for an extended amount of time if that's the case. Is it just a matchmaking fail that let them hang out indefinitely?

Ugh just saw that this is getting re scheduled to a later date. Really sucks but oh well. Im guessing they cant just flip a switch and let up play in training mode until the servers are ready.

Nice. Then I will make SFV the first competitive FG game. I will expect to lose a lot but I'll never give up and try to be smart.

It's SF V, it's not like you don't know what you're getting into. Any fighting game fan knows they'll want the game so it doesn't really matter. If the game has hiccups when it launches in 2016 they'll surely be fixed and the game will be fine. I'd rather be able to play at midnight the night of then wait the next day.
 
It would make sense if the game itself was buggy and didn't work. It is a beta of a game that isn't going to ship until next year. But this is a server issue, not an issue with the actual game. Capcom fucked up and was evidently not prepared despite having this planned months in advance. It's unacceptable.

Plus, there is no guarantee that this won't happen once the game ships either, along with whatever issues it may or may not have.

Umm...what? I buy from best buy. I get the game day of release guaranteed. You digital guys get the game at 12 AM EST I usually get it 8-10 AM EST the day before. So i get the game hours before you do plus I pay 12 dollars less than you. Amazon while you don't get the discount you still get it early the same day. And they ship it to your house so for lazy people it will be here regardless you don't gotta go out.
 
Man this gen is just confusing people complaining because a beta isn't working I guess that's what you get when you start using betas as incentive for people to preorder your product (talking as an industry problem itself not just capcom)

Sure. There's absolutely no better time to jump in to the Street Fighter scene than when a new numerical series begins, since everybody will be fumbling around trying to figure things out for the first few years. Although it wouldn't hurt if you download an older SF for cheap to get the basics (motions, flow of battle, etc) down. Some things will always work in SF, for example: jumping hard kick, crouching medium attack, fireball.

Also, I know this game is supposed to be pad friendly, and it certainly is pad friendlier, but just from using Nash and Ryu both thrive on using HP+HK to create/extend combos. I'll always recommend a stick for those who want to really get into the game and not limit their choice of character.

What? You get it release day means you get it 8am-10am release day... We get it midnight that day, meaning we get it hours before you. Though any value of a few hours is usually lost since I tend to not stay up that late.

I used nash for about 25 minutes and the game is definitely much more pad friendly, though I'd recommend a change of the default butttons so you don't hit r1/r2, making heavy kick l1 instead works much better. Not needing triple p/k eases up the controller setup a lot.

It's not a big deal, yes it sucks we can't play it right now but doesn't make it unacceptable. shit happens and sooner than alter we will get to play it.

You could have spent that money later, you spent it now because of the beta.

People do what they want with their money, they were told they would get a compensation for doing it early, they obviously didn't get it, as of now.

Nope i get it the day before. You guys get it at 12 I get it at 8-10 AM thats when UPS drops it off. Say you get it 12AM for 5/5/15 i get it at 4/5/2015. I always get games from BB 5-10 hours before release.

Yeah, and if you didn't feel like paying the money now, you could have gone and pre-ordered at a place where you could get your money back, and then went and pre-ordered on PSN later.

I'm arguing because the complaint that people paid money to play the beta is easily avoided bullshit. You can do whatever you want with your money, I didn't tell anyone to NOT pre-order it on PSN. But at the same time, that doesn't mean you get to bitch and moan that you paid for a beta when there were numerous options to get into this beta while putting absolutely no money down. I got the same exact incentive that you did, and paid zero dollars for it. You not choosing to take that option and instead, choosing to pre-order at the only place that you can't get a refund doesn't mean you get to act like you had to pay money to try this beta.

That's not even true. Many EU users got it on PSN with prepaid cards because amazon and co don't let them preorder.

I'm not happy about this either. Me and my roomate even had a night planned where we were gonna drink and play all night. That turned into drink and play SFIV and wait all night.

But still, some of you are acting like children. It's a beta and that's what these are for, and good on em' for doing it so early on. And THREE of them. People are way to spoiled on what a beta is these days.
