Street Fighter V Beta Thread: Welcome, future '16ers! (Currently Inactive!)

Chun has amazing dashes, use that. Also forward crouching MP to get under fireballs and get close. You don't really need to go all close combat with Chun, stay mid range and use your attacks me forward MP, HP and neutral HK.

Excellent. Thanks for the advice.

I hope one of the beta tests allows up to set up lobbies and choose our opponents, just to test to see if that functions properly and see how much of it is the netcode or if it's just players being matched from far away places. I know right now they are just seeing how the thing functions as bare bones as possible. But when players actually do go online, they have the ability to be selective and choose connections that aren't too far and people they have decent connections with. I'm sure on release not all you guys will be hitting accept from something like a TX to France connection, that's for sure (Nash and Cammy might as well be unblockable at that point lol).

Plus they need to test lobbies because I believe one of the pre-patch versions of USF4 had player matches be extremely laggy (or was it another mode) because it was constantly testing ping connections to everyone it search for.

I'm really at a loss of what exactly Bison's super is for. I heard it was good at antiair but I've had people just fly right through it or teleport to the ground during the animation. It works as a reversal sometimes but even if they're pressing buttons sometimes it whiffs since the range is tiny, Nash's apparently magic hitboxes resulted in a really stupid moment where he was literally doing a punch animation in the middle of Bison and the super didn't connect.

I heard it works in combos and it does not at all. It misses every time you cancel into it from anything with the exception of psycho inferno in the corner.

So the logical thing is to save your meter for v-trigger but that takes a long time and people just go into psychic blocking mode whenever I use that and I never actually land a knee press.

Also fuck this fucking game. Laggy Birdie just whiffed a hard punch so I try to punish and he somehow cancels the whiff animation into super? What?

I combo into Bison's super all the time. Medium or hard scissor kick never fails me.

Really enjoying this so far! Matches have been silky smooth for the most part. At first I didn't know what to do with Cammy. Tried playing her as a mixup heavy divekick character and got blown up. Once I started staying on the ground and spreading the glory of her standing medium kick my win rate improved dramatically!

Finding matches takes a long ass time. Would've preferred the same way SFIV operates. Find... Choose... Or create. This matchmaking takes too long, kills the fun.

This is a beta.

I know it's hard for people to remember this considering how surprisingly polished and balanced this already game feels...but this game isn't even close to being finished.

Obviously, when the game is legit released, it will have all the options SF4 had and then some.

Have you tried a normal with long active frames when you knockdown? I try f.HK with Birdie and if you get 1 hit of the overhead, since it hit late, you can connect a cr.lp after. It works well against characters with no decent reversal, like Nash. It also seems pretty safe because the hit is late, so it is better frames then if you landed it normally. You can also do this with Ryu's collarbone punch and there is a combo vid where he combod on a late hit of his overhead. You can combo off of Chun's overhead without V-trigger if you hit it late on wakeup too, but that seems harder to time since it is one hit.
I'll try this.

Oh it'll have room search? God bless Capcom.

Just won a grand Master from Canada. Dude was cool.

He's the first I can't hate on.

Tcswift or something.
Only played something like 20 matches today, but only the ones against masters or above were really interesting.
Barely lost to a world warrior ryu on the last round, and it was probably my favourite SF5 match ever -- all footsies, great defence, no random DP or mashed up reversals. Would have loved to play some more matches against him.

Think I've had enough. Most people aren't fun to play against because they just do insanely braindead stuff and I either completely destroy them or am unable to deal with it because they're lagging terribly.

Got 2 matches in 2 days.
Both were unplayable, serves me right for living in South America lol

Im definitely no expert but jesus do some bisons I play seem cheap as hell
Bison in the right hands or spam-happy hands even is disgusting right now lol. I played against a bunch of grand masters couple nights ago and some of them just went full on autopilot and mauled.

Is anyone playing on Wi-Fi having good results? I won't have access to a wired connection this week so I'm hoping I can at least get some rounds in at some point.

Had a pretty good run so far today. Played a newer Ryu and did a bit of fireball parry practice with him (though I wonder if he thought I was just spamming shit).

Played a real good Birdie just now too. He was bypassing my fireballs with his dash grapple, so I'd have to bait it out and then punish that way. Was able to get the duke, but dude had some real nice basic setups. He'd throw the can down and bait the jump, so he'd chuck the anti-air grapple out. Nice stuff.

I for one don't miss crouch teching at all.

Agreed. I don't know why anybody would like it honestly. Unless their first fighting game was SF4 and that is just how they learned how to play fighting games. Maybe I am just old school. Getting punished for committing should be how it always is.

Hey Karst I know you have put some time in with Bison do you have any tech/overall strategies I should be looking to implement? I haven't had any time to put into the beta yet and hope to hop on tonight.

Was Ryu Jab punch always a elbow? I could of sworn he use to throw a full extended jab punch from further range and a elbow close. Now it's just a elbow at all ranges.

I just picked Ryu for the first time and parried a 3 hit denjin hadoken on my first attempt.

...so this is what easy mode feels like, huh. I'm gonna go shower.
