Street Fighter V Beta Thread: Welcome, future '16ers! (Currently Inactive!)

it's a well-known tactic.

It couldn't possibly just be that it's a beta and connections are bound to be wonky, or even that tons of people use wifi just because they don't know any better and it's more convenient?

You're leaping to a ton of conclusions.

they are using slow speed wi-fi and it makes the char. teleports. I can not see my char or his/her. They can not beat me in a normal match so I don't care to lost but still it makes me angry to see win-maniac players. I really wanna send them message from PS4 but not allowed

That's some teleporting logic there, buddy. Just relax, it happens.

Anyone have tips for the Birdie vs. Ryu matchup? I feel like he zones me out way too easily, and aside from HCB+K (which is punishable on reaction) there's not much o can do to get around it.

It's a pretty tough match. Note that HCF+K (the chain grab) will also go through fireballs, though you have to be a bit closer. But don't always go for those, neutral jump some of them, block some, but keep backing Ryu into the corner. Once he's too close to throw fireballs, it's Birdie's time to shine.

Ryu just confirmed his super from jabs on me...fuck i hate him.

Can't half the characters in the beta combo into super starting from jabs?

Wonder when PC beta drops.

You know they're using wifi how, exactly?

You miss the point. If it's a server issue they see we can't play while teleporting, and they see I don't play but they keep to play like in Evo Final! This means they don't care teleporting. Because 1-They do it. 2- They are idiots. No need to fun but just winning is enough for them and we know that all the stats will be gone after this beta. I don't understand this will to win at beta period (actually I do, they are idiots as I said).

Not being matched up with any games. I have a feeling right now the game looks for a ping range and matches up based on that. 7am right now in Aus.

Even when I switched my profile to U.S I got matched up with NZ or Australian players last night.

What am I reading here?!

Man you take this beta too seriously.

lots of good connections today, but mostly getting matched with weaker opponents. rank 6 right now and only fight 8-10. haven't lost today, but plenty of people whooped my ass yesterday. I've got some new ideas I wanna test =(

edit: the trick to getting losses is to post in here about how you aren't! choked it up against 3 Ryu's in a row

The worst is being thrown after a Knee Press on hit, but cannot throw the other person in the same range. What the fuck!
Sucks big time. Also needs to be fixed.

Every time someone makes a post like this, I want to say "Let's make a room and test stuff out!" :-(

Call me a scrub, but I won a few matches by CA on wake up. People don't know (yet) you can't jump on Bison with a full super bar, got a couple of eager Cammy and Chun players that way. Wanna jump on me? Fuck you!

he's got the best wake-up super and if people are handing it to you, make it hurt.

Noob question here but once the beta is over would omega mode Ryu be a good version to kind of train with in sf4?
Yea its more similar than than the regular ultra. But SFV is changing constantly. Try not to worry too much about combos and practice footsies and yomi, and anti air on reaction. You wont be able to practice the game how u want until the next beta.

All of the beta character win quotes are in here, as well as a good number of win quotes from Necalli, Vega, Ken, and R. Mika.

Some thoughts:

Birdie is really really good in this build.
Cammy feels a lot like SF4 cammy. Not a good thing. She's still fun, but she feels the most vanilla out of the six.
Everyone says Bison is good, but I'm not playing him well enough to feel a difference.
Nash feels safe. Anyone know the frame data on his axe kick? It feels like a SF4 Dan Kick with its safety.
Ryu is really fun, but I don't want to play him because I always play him.
Chun is also apparently really fun, but I haven't really played with her yet.

Some system thoughts:
Not a fan of everyone having a target combo.
Not a fan of being able to mash out a combo without fail. (Ryu st.MP, st.MP link comes to mind here.)
You never want to be blocking. I'm forced to snap out of my SF4 bad habits on defense and not hit buttons. Damage is so high that getting slapped with another combo after a knockdown could mean stun into a loss.
Meter management is a ton more important here than it ever was in SF4. No ultra, and only 3 EX stocks means that you really need to think about what you're spending meter on.

Chun Li has a target combo?

Bison has no target combos.

I bet Bison seems worse once people really learn the game and learn to block. Imo, obviously. His V-trigger is insane if he hits you, though.

The lag is maddening. For some reason I just cannot do a simple jump in roundhouse or jump in fierce punch combo. Seems to lag or jump and mess up my timing. I don't get it.

I'm thinking: If this game is going to be counter hit set up heavy, then we might need an audio cue for counter hit like ArkSys games.

Played a handful of matches this last hour. They're coming too slow and a lot of them were laggy. Way more than usual. Might try again in a couple of hours, but this might be the end of the beta for me. Had a shitload of fun, even if it's ending with a whimper.

Getting the super swapped to a motion input certainly had its advantages, but it definitely made cancelling scissors into super way harder. I'm used to charge inputs so I couldn't even do it in the first beta.
I don't mind the cancel, but it drives me nuts when the super whiffs. :(

Definitely.

The fact that there's no real visual cue outside of the CH UI prompt (outside of crush counters) is kind of nuts. I'm kind of surprised it's like that, and if feels like I have to watch that part of the screen out of the corner of my eye every time I'm going for a CH setup. I guess that's how it's been in SF (outside of Alpha 3, heh), but it seems like CHs are way more important now than they were in something like SF4 or CvS2.

PSN is probably getting slammed between the MGSV launch and the roll-out of this month's free PSN games.

That's exactly what I mean. If no audio cue, then the counter alert should be beneath life bars or somewhere more visible. This is especially true if the "no combos from light attack to med attack" is true. Crush Counter's aside.

Had some matches today, unfortunately I haven't won a single one. I did a little bit decent but I still make poor choices. I'm so hard on myself that I call my self an idiot for making mistakes or when I know my opponents is going to do a move, I don't do anything to prevent it from hitting me.

0-2 here so far and I'm the biggest idiot when it comes to street fighter lol

hmmm...have to say I'm not a fan of the mid-range game yet. It feels stiff. Hitboxes, walk speed, and throw range need adjusting IMO. Too many matches are coming down to who know's what to punish and who doesn't. I love the animations on attacks, but they feel very slow/heavy, even the medium stuff. Also, not a fan of close normals being gone.

eh, against some good chun li's and other Ryu's I felt moments of greatness those. So just have to wait it out.

It's hard to know the game balance (or how much you'll ultimately enjoy the game) when you can win 90% of your matches by letting the opponents hang themselves. We have no idea what high level play looks like yet.
