Street Fighter X Mega Man is out

I'd also like to add that some of the level designs are kinda nice. I like Rolento's, parts of Blanka's, and C.Viper's stages so far. Dhalism's and Roses's are eh. Ryu's and Chun-Li's are really boring.

Boss battles are fun since although they're not as pattern based as MM games, playing lots of SF I can kinda tell what they're gonna do. Fighting Ryu was a blast. Does the level design get better after you beat the 8 bosses?

Nope. Goes downhill afterwards.

Ugh, game glitched on me. I left the computer and let it lock (windows key+L) and now my game screen is black, but the game is still running. And i just beat Rolento, Ryu, Chun, Blanka and Dhalsim too. Why couldn't he put a quick save feature in :(

I beat two bosses and closed my laptop for a bathroom break. When I opened it, I saw the same black screen. Disappointing.

The game is okay. It's ironic that the project is more a tribute to Street Fighter than Mega Man. The Street Fighter themes and boss fights are cool, but I found the levels to be rather boring.

I played Street Fighter X Mega Man for a few minutes, but the game is slow for me. I'm playing it on my asus laptop. Does anyone have this problem?

Yup, slowmo central here. Whoever said CPU affinity was related was wrong, since setting it to CPU 0 did nothing. It's weird, the intro with Blanka runs at a smooth 60, but everything else is well below.

Also, the default controls are terrible. Who the hell would use WASD in an NES game? It'd be one thing if the game used mouse-aiming but it's Mega Man. He couldn't aim up with his default weapon to save his life (AH HAHAHA!). Thankfully, you can redefine them, but you have to go all the way into a stage and pause the game before the button for redefining them even works. Not particularly intuitive.

Also, no saving. Not even a password. What's with that?

Granted, I still mostly like what I see, but it'd be nice if it was running at the correct speed.

I wish we could save, i'm too lazy to play the other bosses again.

Tell me about it... spent 2 hours streaming the game just to get locked at Vega and unable to get past him... The thought of having to slog through the entire 8 stages again is a bit disheartening, especially because I never did figure out the correct order to beat them all in... just kind of brute forced my way through.

(edit) And for all those saying not to use wasd for keyboard controls... what the hell are you using then? Not the arrow keys I assume/hope!

Luckily with a PS3 controller and a little manual reconfiguration I got the game to work with the D-pad so that's all I needed.

So, I just finished and no akuma fight? It'll be a long while before I feel like playing through this again to try to get the necessary perfects...

On the Rockman 7 and 8 Famicom version fangames, I use Z/X for Jump/Shoot, and arrow keys for movement. Don't see why they had to use WASD by default. :p

i thought this was going to be a street fighter game in the mega man style.

Not mega man with street fighter bosses ;_; the bosses are fun tho.

Because right hands were designed to control directions... Unless you're some sort of leftie!

Also, first demo of the other 25th anniversary mega man game is out now http://jasoncanam.com/mm25.htm

That one feels more like a true Mega Man celebration since it crosses over the various mega man canons.

I get the feeling that this game wouldn't have been backed by Capcom if it didn't promote STREET FIGHTER in addition to Mega Man. I mean hey, who cares about quality and polish if you can promote two series at once and hush those pesky fans that keep asking for new games.

Played all the way through boss fight against
Vega
where he kicked my ass, but overall this is a decent MM game.

The stages themselves are hit or miss and are shorter in length compared to previous MM entries, and certain spots do pose their challenges. I must say Rolento and Chun-Li's stages are the worst of the levels, due to the fact they are the shortest of the bunch and there's no actual stage "traversion" found in them....seriously, just going from left to right with no damn verticality!? Really underwhelming and lazy!

And too bad Rush isn't an option to use (oustide of the mandatory appearance in Rose's stage). And no saving or passwords is a real downer.

Still a rendition worth playing and seeing SF characters take on Mega Man!

Downloaded and gave it a shot. This is pretty fantastic. I'd pay for this on my 3DS.

Fighting Ryu w/ Megaman was just too awesome. When
his Hurricane Kick went through my bullets
, I nearly fell out of my chair laughing.

I just played this. I beat Blanka and Ryu. I was trying to defeat Dhalsim, but his fireballs were hurting me too much. Awful choice not to save a save feature. I had pressed escape on the keyboard, thinking the game would still be loaded, but it quit and I lost my progress. Unsure if I want to go through that again. I was using the 360 controller and it was fine using the analog stick.

18. Goes With Everything 02:16

LOL xD

There is a password that makes that song replace every single song in the game.

It's kinda funny but C.viper and Urien's songs would of fit fine for wily castle songs and well vega already got that honor in a sense for this haha.

Akuma's theme transfered the best imo though sounds like a megaman boss song, the high pitch part could of been toned down a bit though

Decent game, but you can tell it's fan made and possibly rushed. Chun-Li's stage would never fly in a proper Megaman game and I don't recall there ever being enemies that move left and right, sticking over the ladder once you get close, so you can't climb up. In true Megaman games they always move left and right. The graphics are also off in some spots and some tiles are even more simple than traditional Megaman games.

The bosses, music and presentation are great though.

Generally, the game feels extremely easy, and especially so when you compare it to Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10. (more so the former)

If anything were to come out of this, hopefully it'll be that Capcom evaluates that there's still high demand for new Mega Man games.

I think it's partly to blame with the stages being an afterthought. Where in megaman games the boss fights feel more of an afterthought to the level design which normally consist of 2 or 3 repeated paterns. Not that the SF x MM bosses are SUPER complex but they are still probably the best classic megaman bosses. *this is completely irrelevant if you use their weaknesses though.*

That's true. The stages are a cakewalk. Funny enough, the bosses are more challenging than the stages, but perhaps that was the idea--to let the bosses and their attack patterns shine more.

That would be all right if they had actual patterns. Ryu's "I'm going to Tatsumaki and Shoryuken repeatedly so that you have very few frames to land that charged Mega Buster shot before I go invincible again" never really seemed to have one.

And then on a different playthrough, he just stood there and hadoukened while I shot him in the face.

And let's not start with
"I'm on a fence, can't hit me!"...

You beat vega by just hitting him every time he lands he's not hard at all. the point of the fights is to make them feel like street fighter type fights in a mega man game. Ryu is one of the easiest bosses in the game with his weakness he really shouldn't be the first boss you fight.

Given Ryu's weakness, yes. (Actually, given almost anyone's weakness. Rose becomes a pushover with her weakness, but she's really difficult without it.) But I like buster dueling. I personally feel that I should be able to beat every robot master with just the buster.

And my problem with that was that I was never standing where I could get off a clean shot, and instead had to dodge, which led to me missing my few frames to land the hit because he became invincible again.
Seriously, screw that fence. I'm also unsure why it's even worth kicking him to remove his mask an claw, because he still keeps his stupid amount of invincibility.

Charged shots have the same effect

I have to say they did a pretty great job with the soundtrack. The mixes are well-done. Although it's really bugging me because I know Rolento's music is based off of another Mega Man stage but I can't identify it. I may end up going through every Mega Man stage on YouTube until I figure it out.

EDIT: A-ha! It's Heat Man's stage. Okay, now I can relax.

Just beat it. Pretty fun overall, but it definitely had some flaws/quirks. Biggest one being of course the lack of a save feature or even passwords. Definitely wanted to take a break from the game for a bit but couldn't. Also, they really should've
locked you forwards for the Rush part
in the Rose stage, really no reason not to and it made that feel more janky than it should've been.

Oh, and if I wasn't missing something, a couple of the weakness weapons felt kind of crap. Ryu
either ignored the mirrors with Tatsumaki invulnerability, or the hadoukens bounced back into other ones and canceled out half the time.
With Urien,
the grenades didn't seem to do much, and when they destroyed a mirror they made the WORST noise, like nails on a chalkboard. May have been a weird sound glitch, but it was godawful.
And for C. Viper
the little kicks just seemed like a crappy way of attack her. No range.
And to top it off, as far as I could tell they weren't doing any extra damage whatsoever. But maybe I was missing something, like a special way to use them ala
popping Nitroman's tires
in MM10. I actually had a much easier time with the boss rush when I stopped trying to use their weaknesses and just used the buster.

Also, as for the final boss,
he was kind of a pushover. And yeah, I know there's apparently also Akuma, but even then it could've been something awesome like a Cyber Akuma that's been modified by Dr. Wily or something. Just a shame that Wily isn't involved in any way in the final boss fight, mostly.

Still, fun enough for what it is, and I definitely don't regret giving it a run through.

Doing a buster only no E-tank run of this game is going to be extremely tough. I died plenty even using the boss weaknesses. I suppose it doesn't help that I haven't kept up with Street Fighter. The last one I played much at all was Super Street Fighter 2.

So, with regards to the slowdown: I rebooted my computer, and it became fine. Looks like it's suffering the same issue Jet Set Radio's PC port suffers.

I just beat this. Before playing it, I just couldn't believe some of the negative criticisms, but now I know. Level design is boring, sometimes awful. The stage you were running away from the laser, I couldn't tell that was a ladder at the end, so first time I died, even though I had plenty of time had I known. Another stage was using the ladders as pillars for the platforms, so it looked like you could go down there; nope, it's a cliff. The dhalsim stage tried to put arrows in the background to show you to go left and not right, but they used red on red so it wasn't obvious.

In the final stages (after the 8 first bosses) I strugged with
Vega
a little, but remembered someone's strategy here. I used 1 e-tank but died anyway, so I wasted it. After a bit, I won without any further e-tanks.

Then in final stage 3
fuck the 8 boss gauntlet. I must have spent 2 hours on this. First off, I wasted my e-tanks (my fault) so I had to go without them. I didn't know that the floating energy balls in the background would give you a large health for the longest time!! After I discovered this, I beat it within 15 min. I was shocked when the bosses didn't drop a health each, like real MM games do. Bison was a pushover, but was a cool fight nonetheless. I did not get the secret Akuma fight nor do I care to; looked it up on youtube, good enough for me

Definitely glad that this game is free and that it's behind me.
