Streets of Rage Remake is out

Oh shoot, was playing and got to the Port and game just randomly closed out. Bit annoying! Such is the way of PC gaming XD

To back attack Hold down attack and tap jump.

My 360 pad wasn't working. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I exited to the main menu to find a configuration, but the game froze in the pause menu.

Hey Im getting a hardware installation error when trying to install my 360 controller. I have a wireless controller but I have it plugged in through the USB charger cable. Can you only use the wired 360 pad with your pc. Has anyone actually been able to use the 360 pad with this game. The remake is awesome I would buy a gamepad just to play this game, does anyone know what controllers work with this game.

I was just using a Dual Shock 2 with a PS2->USB adapter and it works perfectly. Don't forget to set the pad up in the options before, guys.

The USB charger is only that - a charger. When you use it on your 360, it's still communicating through wireless, so it won't do anything on your PC without the wireless dongle that MS will supposedly release.

This really is an amazing piece of work - very impressive! I personally like the remixed music quite a bit; BGM 30 is freaking fanastic.

I noticed that BGM 14 isn't from SoR at all - it's a direct, unremixed rip from Super Hudson's Advenure Island for the SNES. Cool tune, but kind of strange to hear it here.

Is that PS2>USB adapter something you can buy from a store or do I have to buy one online.
Has anyone unlocked any of the secrets. I cant believe there is no BGM select. As for the remixes I think they are well done. There also seems to be added enemies and special effects. This is probably one of the best remakes I have ever seen. Once I get a controller working I can really start enjoying this gem of a game.

360 wired pad works fine, though the game automatically maps movement to the analog stick instead of the DPad and won't let you change it. Plays fine with the stick though.

I have to echo all the praise, this is a really impressive piece of work, though I will also echo the complaint that the hit detection on the Jetpack guys is seriously screwy.

I got mine online from Play Asia. You can get them in Radio Shack for sure, and probably any other decent game store.

Wonder if a Dreamcast port is planned? I'd prefer that over my PC.

Ditto. I dl'd it anyway, but a DC port ISO would be great! I played the shit out of BoR (and it's various mods) on my DC.

Ok I found the music select. Im not going to play this game untill I get ahold of a 360 wired controller. From the little I played its like a dream come true. Its the Streets of Rage remake sega never released.

Has anyone tried the X360 pad with this? I'd rather use that then the keyboard. I'll try it later tonight I guess.
I have tried it. the controls seem more responsive then the gen's. It works great.

I'm really impressed by the quality and dedication these guys shown, wow. Now how about a Double Dragon remake (yes, I know about Double Dragon Advance). :)

How would you guys rank these series: Double Dragon, SoR and Final Fight, taking nostalgia into account?

A PSP port would be so awesome!

Hey, how did that Beats of Rage PSP port ever turn out?

Edit - In general, I'd say that SoR was better than FF... until FF3 SNES hit. That game is DISGUSTINGLY great.

Hm, well, i'd say FF3 was about as good as SoR3, although they certainly aren't my favorite in each respective series.

Am I in another world or something, or is everyone wearing nostalgic headphones?
I recognize the new music as being of decent quality, and I have no problems with it being in the game. They obviously put a lot of work into it. However, I do think the old instrumentation was better. You talk as if the old sound chip can't produce valid instruments for music. And if that's not it, then the implication is that these guys are more talented than Yuzo Koshiro. I wouldn't bet on either side of that coin. I'm just saying, it's one thing to say you prefer the new music, but to say other people's opinions are invalidated due to nostalgia... to me, it implies what I've written above.

I can't seem to do back attacks in this, like blaze's leg sweep and axel's elbow etc, but I am realy liking it so far.
It works fine. You are pressing jump and punch at the same time, right? I hope it's not an incompatibility with your controller.

edit:
Try holding punch and pressing jump, instead of trying to hit both at the same exact time. I'm glad to see it works the same way in the remake as in the original :). It's an easier way to do the backhand/sweep.

Yeah thought so, on the consoles I normally press both together and it would register fine but it's a little more sensative in the remake it seems.

I'm having to use joy2key here also, usb 360 pad is not working even in the setup (as I said in a post on page 1)

This remake is amazing. Very true to the feel of the original games and the Genesis. I really like what they've done with the music. It's a shame we'll never see something like this on XBLA or VC. My only beef so far is that I'm unable to alt+tab out of full screen without hitting the Windows key. Unfortunately this locks the game up and I lose all of my progress. Hopefully they fix this in the next revision.

This is my favorite series, and the one that most defines my childhood. I've been dreaming of even a *port* for nearly a decade, and Sega's been incapable of providing. They even screwed me over with Sonic Mega Collection, the bastards.

This is a dream come true. Brought a tear to my eye as I was playing. Suddenly I'm 11 again, living through the experience of playing SoR for the first time ever. It's beautiful.

Kudos to all involved. You've made one person very happy. :)

I used a cop special near the end of stage 5 as I died and all control was lost and I just stood there like a melon, a bit of a shame as it was my best run so far, had to end process and lose everything :/

Ok, so how does saving progress work? Autosave doesn't seem to do anything, and when I turn it off, I don't seem to get any option to save whatsoever. This is actually stopping me from playing, because I don't want to play the first stage over and over and over and over again. Even if it saved every stage, I'd be happy.

I have a PS2 controller adapter. It works fine accept for the fact that movement is mapped to the anologue stick and I can't change it. Anyone know how to change it, or a work around?

Press the ANALOG button (between the analog sticks) on your PS2 controller before launching the game. The light will go off, and it will change it to digital mode.

Good stuff. I'm not to precious about the changes they've made after all I've still got the originals plus its free and someone's put a lot of time into this.

You are entitled to your own opinion. But there is just no way I can agree with you about what I bolded.

The primary reason? Well, the old chip is just that, OLD. If I had the choice between creating music with the old Genesis chip and today's technology, it wouldn't even be a choice. Technology isnt the same as using real instruments; meaning that a piano is a piano, but the sound chip in the Genny is inferior to the sound chip in the Saturn. I'm not even being subjective here; and don't mistake me for some musical invalid. I went to school for this and do this for a living. (I say this not to show off, but just as a means of telling you that I have a good ear for this type of thing). To be quite honest, if they didn't update the music as they did, I'd say they were extremely lazy.

And about Yuzo Koshiro, of course I never said anything of the sort. If you read what I said after that comment you'd see that I said they essentially went and note for note copied Yuzo's work. How does that signify I think these guys are more talented? If anything, it just says that they have the utmost respect for his original compositions and wanted to be as close as possible without sounding dated in any way. Remember, composition and instrumentation are two entirely different things. One deals with the actual notes on the page, while the other just deals with what instrument plays what. The original compositions are mostly retained here, it's the instrumentation that was updated, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Well, that does disable the analogue stick, but the problem is I can't change the default movement config. I'm stuck with up/down/left/right being bound to joy up/joy down/joy left/joy right, which is my analogue stick, while under control properties the D-pad counts as buttons.

Which is why I said it's either the former, or the latter. and not both. Obviously, you confirmed it was the former, which makes the latter irrelevant. I did recognize that many of the songs do copy Koshiro's work note for note, but I couldn't confirm that all songs did that, as I didn't play SoR3. Also, I didn't listen to every note of every song in the remake soundtrack, and I wasn't sure if you were saying you did. I mentioned Yuzo Koshiro's talent, but his talent wasn't only in composition. He also chose his instruments, and IMO, chose them well. Either way, it's a moot point, because you already said you felt that it was that the Genesis sound chip sounds just weren't as valid as instruments as the new ones chosen.

And to that, I say "uh... ok". :)

Oh yeah, and "REGULAR GUITARS ARE OLD. ELECTRIC GUITARS ARE BETTER. YOU'RE BLIND AND DEAF IF YOU DON'T SEE THAT ELECTRIC GUITARS ARE NEWER THAN REGULAR GUITARS. AND DON'T YOU KNOW THAT THE NEW WILLY WONKA HAD BETTER SPECIAL EFFECTS?! GEEZ!"

But whatever, haha. I'm just messing with you. You don't like older instruments. I can see how someone would like newer technology more. The very point of newer technology is to improve somehow on the old. I just think that when it comes to sound, even the most unexpected things can become beautiful if used correctly. And in that sense, I don't think I can confidently say "newer is better" as if it's common sense in music. I also feel Koshiro used his sounds very well.

But regardless of which I prefer, the new music far exceeded my expectations and works fine. And it makes me feel like I'm playing it on a Sega CD :). It certainly sounds professional.

I'm not complaining about anything. I LOVE what they did with the soundtrack. This was a response to someone who didn't.
Maybe he was talking about me, and agreeing with you :). But yeah, I can't really see where people are coming from when they say the new stuff is shit. It's quite decent.

I want to download and play this, but I can't even get to the site. Is there another place it can be downloaded, or can someone hook me up with all that juice?
