Students feed unsuspecting classmates and professor pot brownies.

Have you eaten any brownies recently?

well..it wasn't a brownie anyway.

Stupid move that doesn't deserve jail time. A year or two of probation, community services, and academic expulsion are harsh enough penalties.

too fucking right. This isn't the first pot brownies to class incident, and this whole "throw all the people in jail" movement our society seems to be in, is more than a little bit alarming. Punish the fuck out of those little shits, but years in jail is probably a bit much. I'd go for a month to REALLY push the point, but that would be the max, in addition to expulsion, years of community service, and fucking classes out the yingyong for why you don't put things in other people's food. That's sociopathic behavior.

If it was something gross or biological, I might say something different. The intent to do mischief over the intent to be malicious has some weight here, in my mind anyway.

they should have brought the brownies to me. I would have played innocent and unassuming for their amusement.

The professor was going in and out of conciousness.

Intentionally poisoning people is a serious offence and should be treated as one.

These kids obviously weren't thinking and deserve to be punished.

I imagine any stoners in that class were pleasantly surprised, however. Assuming they had nothing important to do that is.

Wow. Asshole move.

But hospitalized people? C'mon. If you can't taste the pot in the brownie it is probably not enough to hurt anyone. What exactly is the 'treatment' the hospital gives? Feed them pizza?

So many factors you need to take into account.

Some people can cook brownies so well you cant taste the pot (and it depends on how much was used)

Also it depends on the person. Eating an brownie vs. smoking/vaping definitely has a different high/effect for different people. Especially for those who have never tried any of it before.

Well, hopefully they're charged.

I really hope no one defends this in here just because 'it's just weed!'. Smoking weed yourself is fine, but drugging people without their knowledge is fucking moronic.

people ARE way too uptight these days. A freakout is like 80% probable. If people had better vibrations, well, those dirty pranksters wouldn't have dosed their fellow classmates, but also those people might have already mellowed out due to the general feeling of well being, instead of the general feeling of isolated anxiety that seems to be everywhere these days.

I'd like both an operational definition of "up-tight" and a paper that compares multiple generations and supports your statement that people are "too uptight these days" which suggests that they are more up-tight than in the past.

You mean there are school kids who HAVEN'T had mari-ja-wana before? What is this, the twilight zone?

No this is real life.

Pot in food form is potent as all hell. If I had those sensations without knowing the cause I'd want to go to the hospital too.

Drop the hammer on these idiots.

Smoking is one thing. Eat a strong cookie or brownie of the stuff and holy fucking shit.

Eating pot gives a different kind of high too. A full body high. I could see someone who didnt know it was from weed feeling like they are having a medical problem.

My mom suffered from this prank 20 years ago in France at a class dinner party. The thing is that she was pregnant and their students didn't knew it. She collapsed and was taken to hospital. I always wonder if that' why my smaller brother really isn't finished in many places. She didn't pressed charges

They're justified. People have to realize the consequences that such a prank can have. How would you feel if you failed a drug test for a drug you never actively took?

Or were driving when it kicked and got in accident that killed someone? The kids deserve the punishment.

People are probably also forgetting that some students/teachers probably got in their cars and drove home after class high as shit. That is fucking awful.

I have to question who in here has actually had a pot brownie if they think it's no big deal. You can get paranoid and freaked out knowing you got high. I can't imagine the mental anguish if you don't even know you've been slipped something.

Agreed. They're assholes, but a felony conviction is life-ruining.

Never been high, is it really that freaky?

I'd do the sane thing and explain why I failed it.

These kids are stupid and nothing more. People calling them 'scum' are despicable.

I never smoked weed, nor any cigarets. Or took any drugs.

I have heart condition, that is restaining of course, but even before I was diagnoses, I never felt attracted by smoking or even drugs. I still feel strongly annoyed by smoke and especially by cold tobacco smell sticking everywhere.

I used to drink alcohol like everyone though.

I'd wager most of the people making light of the situation smoke pot on a semi-regular basis, and don't particularly think anything is wrong with driving while under the influence.

Yeah because an employer is going to buy "someone made me take the weed!"

And tricking someone into taking a drug without their consent or knowledge is a scummy thing to do.

gessshh, thanks a lot OBAMA!

I've gotten paranoid a couple times, one time included thinking I was going to suffer some sort of heart attack. It's not funny to do that to someone.

Hospitalized, really?
Keep in mind...

1. These people may have never smoked/eaten weed before, so they are unaware of what the effects are.

2. If you are also unaware that you have ingested THC, it makes sense that you would be extremely confused about what's happening to you.

You should never ever give someone a drug without telling them. Unless it's your dog and you have to sneak a pill into a piece of bread or something.

Idiots. Fuck people who think drug pranks are funny. Those poor people probably had no idea why they were feeling so weird. Terrifying.

Hospitalized, really?

Funny you should say this- someone gave me a pot brownie once, and it triggered a pretty severe allergic reaction. Apparently the seeds/oils are close enough to most nuts (almonds, walnuts, brazils, etc) that it triggered my allergy- eyes and throat swelling shut, tongue going numb, the whole 9 yards. Lucky me I spit it out before it got too bad, but someone else might not be so fortunate.

Explain to who? The police? They'll believe you just ate those things accidentally and were unaware that there was anything in them.

Also, how would you explain it if you honestly believed you had never consumed any drugs? Especially so if you've never been high before.

Try harder to defend them.

Yeah?

The police aren't out to fucking get me, If I made this accusation it would damn well be followed through with an investigation.

Am I the only one here that wouldn't eat the food at "bring food to class day"? Are we in elementary school here or something?

I wouldn't trust the food at all whether it be laced with weed or someone using expired eggs. I'm not saying what these students did wad right but I think a reasonable defense attorney could argue there was a level of consent by the other classmates to eat the shit.

I've seen how a lot of students live and I'm skeptical in general about their cooking. My sister's bought baked goods back from high school projects from other students and I always half joke about what its laced with or the environment its prepared in (or how long it's been sitting out).

I'd be content knowing its not food poisoning. I wouldn't be thrilled knowing I ate weed. I could be driving or something + no telling what the weed was also laced with.

This is like spiking the punch at a party or at worst, leaving a drink unattended at a bar or restaurant. I'd at least employ some common sense before eating someone's brownie concoction.

Can't the school be indirectly responsible for this if it's a class project for a grade?

Although since we're still on the frontier of legalization, it's not a great story to support it.

The more I write this response, the more I feel they should get the book thrown at them but I'd like to seehow the full story unfolds. I don't think they should go to prison and their lives ruined over this.

The CU spokesman's name is Huff. That is awesome.

These kids should be thrown in jail for a few months, expelled, and have a felony on their record. I feel that would be fair.

Their stupidity does not help the case of MJ legalization at all, people are going to jump all over this.

It doesn't hurt the case either. Plenty of legal substances I could put in food that could potentially cause harm.

What if it's not the police but a potential employer?

Obviously the employer does a full investigation, interviewing the accused, and asking your entire family for character references.

So if your friends loaded the trunk of your car with loads of drugs and tipped off the cops, you'd expect the police to believe that you were merely falling for a prank?

Are you having a laugh?

What if it's not the police but a potential employer?

Then I'd again have to report this to the police, attempting to pinpoint how this happened and following it through with an investigation.

It's worth noting that I think the kids did a really fucking stupid thing, but I'm not eager to see some dumb kids have their lives ruined because they fucked up. Everybody makes mistakes, this one was probably not with malicious intention, but a byproduct of straight up honest stupidity.

Really? So why doesn't everyone just use the excuse "I was tricked."

It isn't verifiable unless they use infallible mind reading. And a person mentioned losing their job. An employer is going to buy that?

I assume any cops or jobs have heard the excuse that people didn't willingly ingest the stuff they tested positive for. So in essence they'd just think "what a fucking liar."

Hospitalized, really?

I've eaten very potent pot brownies/foods like ~5 times in my life. Every time I've planned carefully, made sure that I wasn't going overboard, and knew exactly what I was getting up to. And, in each case, without fail, there is some moment (in some cases, many, many moments) where I am so crushed that I began to worry that something is wrong with me.

If someone fed me pot brownies without my knowledge of their potness, I really believe that I might freak out.
