Are you having a laugh?

Ok, ignore them tipping off the cops. Say they snuck drugs onto your person and you just happen to get stopped and searched. Your friends put the drugs on you without your consent. No one is going to believe that you are unaware of the 'prank'.

This is terrible. And people not understanding what's so bad about this... smh

Me and one of my roommates regularly bake regular brownies for ourselves on the weekends and then wrap 'em up and keep them in the fridge. Earlier this semester I saw he had made some and chowed down on two of them. It turned out he had decided he was gonna start making money off pot brownies without telling me, and I had one of the worst nights of my life (taking pot consciously even triggers my anxiety, which is why I stopped doing it like a year ago).

It's a terrible feeling to be unexpectedly high, especially because baked goods are a lot stronger than what most people are used to taking. You'll think you're losing your goddamned mind or have some terrible virus.

Are you having a laugh?

Are you?

Please continue to ignore:

1. The hospitalizations. People experienced sudden alterations in perception for seemingly no reason.

2. The fact that people may have driven while unknowingly under the influence.

3. Employers aren't going to perform a lengthy investigation.

There's no need to come up with another example, the story in the OP would be unbelievable enough if the students hadn't been caught.

"I swear officer/boss, my students/friends must've got me high!"

Then I'd again have to report this to the police, attempting to pinpoint how this happened and following it through with an investigation.

It's worth noting that I think the kids did a really fucking stupid thing, but I'm not eager to see some dumb kids have their lives ruined because they fucked up. Everybody makes mistakes, this one was probably not with malicious intention, but a byproduct of straight up honest stupidity.

It's almost worse if it's honest stupidity rather than malice intent.

True that.

That's exactly why this should be taken really seriously with a serious punishment.

Obama's Marijuana

Pretty stupid thing to do. The students must be brain damaged to risk prison for this stupid shit.

Well that and the students might have almost killed some of them if they're allergic and induced panic attacks in the others. Just stupid ass students. People who don't think they deserve some stiff ass penalty must not realize the extent of what they did.

I love the pot as much as the next guy, but forcing it on the unwilling is pretty dastardly.

I did get a good laugh out of the story, though. :D

Excellent, so we're in agreement that what they did is fucking stupid. Good.

Now, on to the point I was making. Do you think these kids thought this through? Do you think they went forward with this prank even knowing that the above could happen? If there was no malicious intent (which there probably wasn't), do you still believe they deserve felonies?

It's almost worse

Not even close.

Unless an investigation proves their innocence.

In the OP's story the kids got caught, were indicted, and are in serious trouble. The victims of this incident either went to the hospital or went about their day. Either way each victim will be documented, and most likely required to provide a witness statement, essentially dismissing them of any wrongdoing.

That is likely enough to refute your concerns over these hypothetical situations.

I never said they deserved felonies, and that wasn't your initial claim so nice goalpost shifting. I do however, think they deserve the label of "scum." And your original claim was that they did not deserve that label.

Tricking someone into taking drugs without their consent is scummy. They didn't think it through, showing a scummy lack of consideration for their fellow human beings.

I love being involved in police investigations for sure. Hopefully someone can frame me for murder at some point. Being framed for drug use is one thing, but being framed for murder has to be an absolute blast.

When marijuana is cooked and eaten there is a different chemical that becomes active beyond just THC. Edibles are WAYYY different than regular pot and can FUCK YOUR WORLD'S BUTTHOLE TIL IT'S INSIDE OUT if you take too much. Or I'd imagine if you didn't know you had taken any and started feeling the effects.

Am I the only one here that wouldn't eat the food at "bring food to class day"? Are we in elementary school here or something?

I wouldn't trust the food at all whether it be laced with weed or someone using expired eggs. I'm not saying what these students did wad right but I think a reasonable defense attorney could argue there was a level of consent by the other classmates to eat the shit.

pizza, hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, soda, i'm ok with. anything else, hell no. definitely not any baked goods.

The thing with the University of Colorado, is they are already pretty lax on marijuana as it is. I do not see them conforming to state laws for marijuana use and possession on campus. Because, I think around 1 billion dollars in Federal grants and funding is at risk.

Stupid fucking kids.

Oh man, you haven't heard? I guess last year they hired a bunch of rent-a-cops and shit to get everyone off campus and they've been sending out e-mails about how the school stands to lose money with the association it gets with Dank Weed.

Really, CU needs to stop letting shitty people in. Guess the US needs a new PSU, though.

My initial claim was that there were 'harsh reactions in this thread'. I don't think they should be called scum, but then again we probably have different ideas of what the words means.

You can't consent to something you don't know about. I don't think any defence attorney could wrangle that argument.

As for eating food made by others, it really doesn't seem that odd. There are some amazing cooks out there that like sharing their craft with others. I have eaten plenty of things made by other people ranging from terrible to mind blowing (well... maybe not like these brownies). The professor had some and considering how many people were "affected" it sounds like some people tried them and mentioned how good they were. Not everyone is paranoid.

Actually, I was just going to post that felony charges seemed pretty extreme, but you make a good point about the possibility of allergies or whatnot. I'm still not personally sure they should be convicted of a felony, but getting expelled is probably the minimum.

Different ingestion method. Smoking it is a quick hit that delivers THC to the CNS via lung absorbtion. When it's in your stomach that's totally different. Slow digestion of strong THC, internally? Wow. I'm making brownies tonight.

Hospitalized, really?

When I first got high I thought I was dying. Had a really bad anxiety attack and could feel my heart beating really hard in my chest and thought I was having a heart attack. So if these people didn't know they were high? Makes sense to check in to a hospital.

Yeah when I have sudden shifts in perception and behavior out of the blue for seemingly no reason I express very little concern, and I'm sure you would too.

Lol this.

Getting high in specific situations can be great fun, but if someone suddenly experiences the 'symptoms' out of the blue it could be really frightening.

Yes. The charges they are faced with make sense in this situation.

Pretty much.

I have never been high so I cannot relate but I imagine I would freak out......People tend to do so when their body is doing something unexpected. Better to go to the hospital when it may be nothing then NOT go and have it turn out to be something serious.

That's not even funny even though it's just weed.

If anyone gave me something that was laced with something I'd be pissed the hell off no doubt.

That'd be pretty scary for someone who's never gotten high before. I always wondered what the first people to try shrooms were thinking. To just start tripping without knowing what tripping is and having it come out of nowhere must be crazy.

Food laced with pot can be much more intense than smoking or vaporizing and gives a very strong "body high" that could very easily lead to extreme anxiety or panic if you dont know what is going on.

This is an extremely fucked up act and they deserve to go to jail.

Given that baking the brownies is a different process than smoking it could definitely cause issues. Personally I think any drugging of someone without their knowledge should remain a felony. Anyone with a fucking brain should realize that it has the chance of killing someone. When you take the drugs yourself, you are accepting this risk. When someone else does, they are taking liberties to decide for you. And some medications, drug interactions and in this case baking oils in the food might render some people ill or kill them.

If you drug people without their knowledge, you're scum.

Wow, it's startling to see such intense hatred for teenagers that at heart, are probably not bad people. Just dumb and....young. It's sad.

If this was out of spite, I'd be closer to agreeing with you, but I imagine that this entire thing was a result of "haha let's do it, it'll be funny", their actions riding on the back of its recent legalisation, with no real afterthought of the consequences put in.

I imagine they severely regret their actions, I'm interested to find out if they do, anyway.

There is a line that you cross where you don't get sympathy for "just being a dumb kid". Drugging others is over that line.

It's not hatred for them but hatred for their actions.

It's a pretty shitty thing to drug someone without their knowledge. I don't give a fuck what the motive was. "Oh just for laughs dude!" doesn't negate the fact that they drugged people.

I hope they are punished to the absolute fullest extent of the law.

I first heard Joe Rogan talk about this. Its not THC but another compound that is absorbed by the liver and causes some people to trip.

And yes, it definitely has different effects.

I'd do the sane thing and explain why I failed it.

These kids are stupid and nothing more. People calling them 'scum' are despicable.

Dude, they poisoned a bunch of people. If one had had an allergic reaction and died, or were in a car accident and killed someone, what then? They would be guilty of manslaughter, at least.

Hatred for teens? More like hatred for assholes. They are 21 and 19, well pass the age where they should know better.

Drugging people against their will?

Wonder what that's like.

They're just kids man...not scum.

I don't think you get it. The fact that they thought this was a harmless prank just goes to show that they should be given harsh consequences. They're either malicious trolls or stupid. However it's the kind of stupid that can send people to the hospital or worse because they can't reasonably think for a fucking minute about how drugging people without their consent or knowledge is a bad idea. People go to jail for bad decisions while driving. I don't see why these college students deserve any less.

Poisoned?? Yeah I dunno about that. I've never heard of anyone being allergic to weed.
