Subway restaurants really SUCK now!

Jimmy John's is the GOAT fast food sandwich place. Used to live off that in college. There isn't one near me anymore so I just go to local sub shops now. Those are typically the best anyway.

They used to be decent. Now they just thrive on name and little competetion,

I hate when i ask for toasted and barely feels warm. Same people own 2 in my town. Talk about greedy.

I've never been impressed with subway's quality.
yea, for chains, i much prefer quiznos, which which, or potbelly.

little competition? in houston there's litterally sandwhich shops everywhere, Panera, quiznos, which which, potbelly, firehouse subs, just to name a few.

They are not that bad. I usually get a:

Meatball sub
Pickles
Spinache
Sweet peppers
Cheese
Onions
Tomatoes

Double toast the bread. It's yummy and does the trick.

I like subway, but I am european, and it has been revealed on GAF how we struggle with sandwiches

From what I knew about them back when was that since they're franchised, there were different options in the quality of the meat that the owner could buy. Certain owners bought the more expensive kind, but most bought the cheap stuff. I went to one recently that used to buy the more expensive kind, but it's changed ownership and does not do so anymore.

Though I don't think it's ever been great food. Much prefer Jersey Mikes.

The other day someone ordered the "old cut" next to me.

I douchily let him know that the sandwich artist serving him was barely born the last time they cut the bread that way ><

I eat there usually a few times a week since we have one in our store. I can see preferring other places but there is a lot of goddamn hyperbole in this thread. Their sandwiches are fine. I usually only ever get a 6-inch because its so expensive now but I don't know anyone can actively dislike them that hard. =\

You lost me at "Subway is healthy"... Especially considering your choice of Steak & Cheese. Since when is a third pound of steak covered with cheese and shoved into a foot of bread healthy? That's less healthy than a Big Mac, any day.

I'd rather eat a sleeve of saltines for lunch.

If Subways isn't the Sandwich place to go, then what is?

Anyone tried Earl of Sandwich? It's 9 inches for $6, but it's much better than Subways.

It's not great but can do in a pinch.

Unless you're ordering one of their advertised 6 grams of fat or less sandwiches you're not getting anything healthy, and even those can quickly get bad for you if you pile on condiments and such.

Subway sandwiches used to be filling. They used to be bursting at the seems with lettuce, tomato, pickles, etc.

Now if you go and get a footlong, it's 70% bread as they are fucking stingy with every single topping. Who puts four pickle and six banana peppers on a footlong?

Not that they ever had the highest quality ingredients to begin with, but I noticed a few years ago it was going southward while their prices were dramatically going northward. They do indeed suck.

Except lettuce. They'll gladly dump an entire head of lettuce on your sandwich without even asking if you want it.

They lowered the quality of their ingredients while jacking up the price. You can maybe get away with doing one or the other, but not both. I won't shed any tears when they inevitably go under.

I always tell them to keep adding more.

Yeah, Subway has gone downhill. I've always preferred a local sub place here in KC called Mr. Goodcents or Planet Sub, which is also local but expanding quickly to be a regional midwest thing.

MY MAN. Came here to mention Goodcent's. God-tier sammiches. I'd also throw in Lenny's and Firehouse.

Subway is disgusting and has been for some time.

edit: and Pickleman's. Whenever I'm blind-stinking drunk in Waldo, Pickleman's is always the last stop.

I used to eat Subway relatively often until I went on a bit of a healthy diet for while last summer, when I had my first sandwich from them it just destroyed my stomach and I realized it had probably been doing that for a long time. I just choose to not eat there now, they used to be okay but by the end all of their subs tasted exactly the same and the bread always tasted real "fake", somehow.

Worst fast-food restaurant IMO. Absolutely horrible.

I used to raise my eyebrow at comments like this but I can definitely see it now. I would sooner eat at a McDonald's or Burger King than I would a Subway (though I honestly try to avoid most fast food these days). The taste is just better, it seems like each Subway is hit or miss as to whether the ingredients are actually "fresh" and even when they are it all just tastes the same.

I find it to be just the opposite. They always put way too much vegetables on my sandwich, with no sense of proportion. They definitely belong to the "more is more" theory of food preparation.

I've had to strategically ask for less amount of ingredients, otherwise it just turns into this salad on a bun stuffed with too much fucking lettuce, too much tomato, too many pickles and banana peppers. I love all these things, but in overstuffed proportions everything becomes gross.

I'm sure if you specifically ask for larger amounts, they will give it to you.

My standards for Subway have always been low. It's the cheapest restaurant concept - just bake some bread, and serve the bland meat that corporate ships out. You can run one out of a phone booth.

As such, I'll take what they give me. It's not that expensive, and quick enough.

Of which they dip in and add 3 more. These changes always coincided with a manager change at particular locations. If there was a manager change, I knew the subs at that location would turn to shit.
