You'll need to use a PC or PS3 to transfer it, but it works fine. There've been rumors in this and other threads that Suikoden I will be getting fixed to allow direct-downloading to the Vita, but no confirmation yet.

Hook up your Vita to your PS3 and use Content Manager to copy it over. This works for PSP games too. Valkyrie Chronicles 2 is like that as well.

Are you in the US. I'm in the military and whenever I'm outside of the US, I can't add funds or purchase anything off of PSN.

Hell, right now I can't even add funds to my account via a digital PSN card that I bought from Amazon since Sony's website to add codes doesn't work for me.

Finally a chance to play this - just bought it for $5.99. It's crazy that its first appearance on the store is at such a low price.

It's been years since I played the first one but I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately I don't remember much aside from fleecing this gambler guy over and over for mad cash, and Gremio.

Hopefully not having all of the cast fresh in my mind doesn't cause me to miss out on too much.

Do you have a friend with a PS3? Sign into their PS3 with your name and buy it. Transfer it via Content Manager.

I haven't done that before. I know you can use content manager and bring games over to your Vita. I've kept Persona 4 Golden on my PC until I wanted to transfer it back to my Vita. If it's compatible then possibly. It would need to be able to be stored onto your PC first, then you could try it. The PS1 files should be the same if they're from the store. I've done PSP games before like Valkyrie Chronicles 2. I've also done a few PS1 games, so it might work.

Make sure to have it stored so you can find it. You can file transfer from PS3, PC, and Online Storage.

Nice - I'm stuck at work and have nothing with me except access to the PSN web store (and you're right, PSV isn't listed as a Suikoden 1 option), I was just going to say I'm nearly positive I played it on mine, and then realized it was probably installed during that window of time they seemed to unlock all PSX titles for it. That was awesome but also shitty because they rolled it back. So yeah I don't know what to tell you, sorry. Hopefully they change it back or unlock them for PS4 or both.
