Suikoden II |OT| The Affordable 108

Yeah the PSX being emulated on the PS4 should be something of a non-effort.

Yoshida specifically said that it would be easier to emulate PS1 games than to stream them. I imagine it's the same for PS2.

In fact SD video can be around a GB/half a GB an hour. streaming more than a few hours will easily get into "more data than the game disk" territory.

That said, for any PS1 game, by the time you've played the game for an hour or two over streaming video, you've already used up enough bandwidth to download all the game data and store it locally. For most PS2 games, it would take longer, but usually not as long as it would take to finish the game.

So it may actually cost MORE money for Sony if they stream old PS1 / PS2 stuff on PS Now rather then utilize software based emulation.

The PS4 is more than capable of doing this, of course if Yoshida offhand comment turns out to be true, then that would be nice.

Thanks for shedding more light on this.
I thought as much, I think more customers need to complain that they want to play their old PS1 classics on the PS4 so Sony is enabling it with a new FW.
It is really annoying, especially if you have only a PS4, you cannot download the PSX games and play them.
And as you already wrote, would make much more sense to download the PS1 and PS2 games onto the HDD, then stream them from an online service like PS Now.

Patiently waiting. Refreshing "search Suikoden" on the Playstation store. $10 in wallet ready to go.

Oh yeah, totally there with you.

Watching PS Store updates like a hawk.

I should probably just go play Yakuza 4 instead but reading this thread and reading other peoples posts about not playing the game before and this being their first time ever is letting me live vicariously in the sense I remembered what it was like to dive into these games 15 or so years ago when I experienced them for the first time.

When i was young, the first time you see the credit after Jowy and the hero jump the cliff i was thinking of a bad ending. I reseted the game twice

I am the Online Content Producer here at Konami (El Segundo)

I work with several others, like ToraShir0, on Neogaf to communicate with members of the Konami community and find out what our fans want as well as don't like.
Currently, I host pretty much all of the streams on Twitch if you want to talk to me directly.

Aka Tenkai Star

joduso here, waiting to purchase an USA copy to suport the saga while I wait for the EU release.

Only $6? Bought.

Wont have time to play until next year though. I also have copies of 3, 4, and 5 waiting. Should be an interesting marathon.

$5.99?

I'll eat my crow for saying that they would cash on the nostalgia and put it at $9.99

What?? Whoa. Bought. Is that a price mistake??

Suikoden 1 was $5.99

WHAT!? Suikoden II for only $6

WOW. I expected to be at least $10.

Thank you Toshiro and InstallBase for your efforts. I will enjoy this.

The price is $5.99 for me, not $9.99. Anyway is the S1 downloadable straight to the Vita? I don't want to buy it and then can't play it. I don't have a PS3 to transfer it.

It wasn't but they were going to make it available straight to vita today as part of this release.

Bought! I would have payed the 10 bucks to support the saga, but it's a cool donative waiting the european release. Damn Sony and the unique account on Vita!

This is the best JRPG that you can play. Suikoden 1, 2 and 5 are insanely good games (I have not played 3 or 4).

This isn't your first time playing them is it?

Still after Cosmic Star Heroine comes out, I'd definitely be interested to see what kind of inspirations you'd get for a project after playing S1 and S2, if ever do such a thing.

Even so I do hope you enjoy the games thoroughly. You are in for a treat

No, I've played through both games before but that was a while ago. I still own a copy of the Chinese PC version of 2 (which I bought when I lived in Taiwan) but my PS1 English copy of the game is long gone so I'm really excited to have both games on my Vita for portable RPG greatness. :)
