Suikoden II |OT| The Affordable 108

Added the 10$ yesterday, waiting for the game to hit the store!
BTW is MR Takahiro Sakiyama still working in Konami ? any projects he's working on?

Suikoden I has no missables. Non-specific spoilers for S1:
Whenever you have the option to save or kill someone, always use save. There is another character that is very hard to keep alive though and you may want to use a guide for that small part.

Unfortunately this isn't true.

If you progress to far into the story, certain Stars cannot be recruitable. Notably
Mace the Final Blacksmith requires you to have all the other Blacksmith apprentices in the party to recruit, which is fairly late in the game. There is a point in which two characters become unremovable from your party in addition to the Hero which means you can't ever recruit Mace beyond this point, by consenquence because of this, you miss one of the 108 and thus Gremio being revived and the True ending not happening

There are several missables into Suikoden II such as some recipes and special runes. As well as some items from areas you don't ever revisit after the first time, as well as a specific time sensitive side quest surrounding a particular recruit.

Cant wait to try it out! Heard amazing things.

If you like JRPGs at all you should play Suiko 1 and 2. They are classic and still amazing today. Straighforward and pleasant battles, AMAZING music and the stories are also top notch. My fav JRPGs of all time actually.

Man, I love Suikoden II. Wish I had a working PS3 to play it on. :( Guess I could play it on PSP though.

I remember playing S2 years ago when I was still in high school. What I remember about it was how serene and calming it was at times, especially the dungeons and areas that were set in forest / rural regions.

You do have to watch out for the point of no return, though. If you're a first-time Suikoden player (so not the person who was asking), it's pretty easy to miss
Leon
, for example.

Forgot about that!
Leon is also missable post Sheherezade!
But only two out of 108 isn't that bad! It's nothing compared to how difficult Suikoden II can be with missables!

Great OP. I can't wait for people to start playing this game TODAY!

Thanks a lot Yuichi for helping bringing this game to the PSN. Suikoden II is my favorite game of all time, so I'm happy that more people will get to know the series.

Hopefully the Community OT will come back to life soon.

Buy the games because they are great games, probably one of the best JRPGs around. Don't buy it with the hope for a Suikoden VI, because Suikoden VI will never happen. :(

Sorry if I always come off as a pessimist, but I'm just being realistic.

Can't wait to download these games. This should make my commute bearable, for a couple of weeks at least.

Clive is the best!

My favorite game of all time.
I own a physical copy, but I'll probably take some time out today and play it on my Vita.

So glad this finally happened.

Is there any way I can just buy multiple copies? I feel like Konami finally listened and I also feel like this game won't get the traction it needs so I want to show as much support as I can.

Not on the same account but you could register multiple dummy accounts and buy from those accounts. Not that I would recommend to do so, these companies are far richer than you will ever be.

Thank you for creating this OT.

Please continue to spread the word that this game is worth the price of admission ($10).
Suikoden 1 is already on PSN and will officially be on VITA today so you can have both Suikoden 1 and 2 for less than $20!

That is easily 80+ hours of gaming combined plus all the replayability.
Clives quest, save transfers, finding out how to recruit everyone, figuring out unites and magic combinations.

Thank you for your part in bringing these jewels back to the public.

You have 4 sales right here, between the US and EU Vita versions, and you will have 4 more if you release III, IV, V and Tactics as PS2 classics ;) *hint hint*.

I must say.. it is weird to see my face in these forums.

Suikoden 1 does have a missable scene if you take a certain character to a grave before the end. The Suikoden 1 and 2 is filled with unique interactions and scenes like that. I have yet to play Suikoden 3-5 but I have them at the office and am ready to play them sometime next year =)

Please continue to spread the word.. you guys are doing great!
Thank you for your support and patience.. but we FINALLY DID IT.

IT. IS. HAPPENING!

This will be the only hint I will ever give for first time Suikoden I players.

In War battles, ALWAYS use Ninjas / Thieves as the first command.

Charge beats Arrows, Arrows beat Magic, and Magic beats Charge.

Suikoden II War battles are a lot like Langrisser / Warsong, so individual character strength is considerable to determine their strength in War conflicts. So try to level all of your battle members evenly to get the best odds folks.

That is all I'm going to say and you are on your own. Enjoy the games, I hope you have fun and get the most out of the experience playing these gems for the first time like I did years ago.

Please change the title to EVERYONE BUY THIS FOR CHANCE AT SUIKODEN VI.

I love Suikoden as much as anyone else, but let's at least be a little bit realistic. The last mainline game was over 8 years ago, and as far as I'm aware the Suikoden team has been disbanded. Hopefully good sales may provoke the digital release of further games in the series but we shouldn't be setting expectations that the Suikoden we know would continue.

Forgot about that!

Man, I missed Clive the first time I played through Suikoden II. I was so mad when I found out how hard it was to actually miss him.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that made this release possible. To the Konami streamers and any other supporters at Konami. I've been waiting for a digital release for years, and am ecstatic to finally see it happen and the opportunity for others to get to play one of the best RPG series to be released!

I was hoping I could do something like Steam so I could gift it to a few people.

Also, for new comers, I think it was Kat Bailey years ago that described Suikoden as "smooth" when it came to how it played and how leveling worked. The first game has 16 bit roots and came out super early in the PSXs life so it still retains some of the style of 16 bit RPGs. I think that's Suikoden I's biggest asset as it feels like Konami took everything they could learn from RPGs at that time and worked them into their own formula. II does the same thing, but it's a lot more confident than the 1st one, and is better overall. II has an unforgetable villain as well. If you liked 16 bit rpgs and early 32 bit rpgs then you can't go wrong with Suikoden I and II.

PS4 doesn't have PS1 emulation built in.

And they removed that with the PS3 as well, only the fat at release could.
Software emulation hello? this is a ps1 game were talking about or am i missing something?
Wasnt there talks a long time ago about PS4 having software emulation or did that never happen?

Can't wait to see how much you'll enjoy Suikoden III! The characters are so great!

Thanks for your streams! It helped for sure! =)

Software emulation hello? this is a ps1 game were talking about not a ps3 game.

Uh no. The PS3 still can emulate PS1 games. They removed PS2 emulation from the PS3. I played through Suikoden 1 on my slim.

When you say disbanded have they left Konami completely or are they simply split up and working on other projects?

Hi all,

REMINDER: Please take the time to rate the game on PSN. We want those who have never played Suikoden to be interested in the series as well.

Thanks!

How long is the game? People are hyping this up and I wouldn't mind giving it a try but I already have so many games to play lol

40ish hours, depending on how fast you go and how much you level extra characters.

Edit: Maybe I'm really slow at playing RPGs

Yuichi, the guy responsible for the whole Suikoden I and II goodness.
He is an employee at Konami USA.

I am the Online Content Producer here at Konami (El Segundo)

I work with several others, like ToraShir0, on Neogaf to communicate with members of the Konami community and find out what our fans want as well as don't like.
Currently, I host pretty much all of the streams on Twitch if you want to talk to me directly.

Oh I see, that's really cool.
So you hosted also the stream for Tora as well I presume?

Words can't express how excited I am that Suikoden II will FINALLY be on PSN. I played the crap out of the game when it came out for PSX.

Trust me guys. This game is totally worth it. Suikoden II is one of my favourite games of all time. I played the first game before the second, so I enjoyed it way more (especially due to the recurring characters). So definitely play them both at some point.

I'm buying this as soon as this launches on the store. Gotta show some support! Thanks to everyone that was involved in bringing this over! :)

Sony said because the hardware is totally different then the PS3 one, but sounds like an lame excuse from the side of Sony. I am also mad that I cannot download my PS1 games onto my PS4.

Yeah the PSX being emulated on the PS4 should be something of a non-effort.

Yoshida specifically said that it would be easier to emulate PS1 games than to stream them. I imagine it's the same for PS2.

In fact SD video can be around a GB/half a GB an hour. streaming more than a few hours will easily get into "more data than the game disk" territory.

That said, for any PS1 game, by the time you've played the game for an hour or two over streaming video, you've already used up enough bandwidth to download all the game data and store it locally. For most PS2 games, it would take longer, but usually not as long as it would take to finish the game.

So it may actually cost MORE money for Sony if they stream old PS1 / PS2 stuff on PS Now rather then utilize software based emulation.

The PS4 is more than capable of doing this, of course if Yoshida offhand comment turns out to be true, then that would be nice.

Last week I filled out a beta application form and it asked me for the top 5 games of all time. It took me a few minutes, but I had Suikoden II @ #1 without a second thought before I had to figure out 2-5.

This is such a perfect game for my VITA, I'd buy it Day -1 if I could.
