Ano no Hana 9 - 11
I cried like a bitch. The show had plenty of flaws but it was completely what I wanted/needed.

Nano crushes two IS characters, huh? Poor Tabane... but eh, Nano's pretty amusing.Articalys said:Maybe it's time for me to finally get into the Hunter x Hunter manga. I think I remember reading up through volume 5 a long time ago.
Anyway, time for the most boring day of Saimoe results since the first. Interest seems like it's waning all around now.
Gay marriage isn't legal here yet.. but there's going to be another referendum on it next year probably, hopefully it'll have a better result than the last one.firehawk12 said:ABF lives in a liberal (good) state!
I don't shop at Walmart. My family has always refused to shop there, for good reason...Croisee 5: There are no villains on the show, of course, so I wasn't too surprised with how it ended... but I get some feeling that there will be an act of contrition at some point down the line, unless this show becomes super dark and changes tone all of a sudden.
There were also some interesting framing shots, using the gallery's architecture to invoke meaning:

But I'm not sure how I feel about seeing all the boarded up stores with Ferme stamped all over them. It's like, they didn't want to hammer home that Walmart is killing the local stores by having the characters complain about it... but this is about as on the head as that. Since the ending is inevitable though, one wonders how they'll handle it. The bit with the oil lamp at the end seems to indicate how it'll all be resolved anyway.
They can claw you, sure, but won't kill you. Dogs can be much more dangerous.firehawk12 said:What if they claw you to death?
Dedication Through Light said:I thought it was nice since it gave them a second chance and they could spend more time together especially with the revelation about the heart. I enjoy epilogues with hints about what happened next. I was torn at first because I thought Kanade would have stayed with Otonashi in that world for him staying alone is kind of a sad thought since he would have to start SSS from scratch though its a ending thats better for a sequel.
Ah, I see. I'm not entirely sure how common misconceptions about Americans and the Wild West were, but I do think that they were at least somewhat common, so some people would believe her when she said something like that for sure. Remember, at that point most people hadn't actually been across the ocean and back. Plenty of people went TO the US and didn't return, but only richer people could afford to travel back and forth... I think her saying that and hoping they'll believe her is reasonably believable.mAcOdIn said:And now you're misunderstanding me! Of course the old world was aware of the Wild West, what I argue is whether they honest to God truly believed that that was how we all lived. I mean, prior to that we had were established by Europeans and controlled by Europe, gone to war with England twice, had formal relations with Europe so honestly a lot of Europeans had been to America, for business, pleasure, whatever and vice-versa and while the frontier predates the Wild West and was surely an icon of America since its inception I find it hard to believe that Europe was trading with us and we and they were going back and forth between countries and then some fucking literature came out and they figured we all lived in Tombstone getting in shoot outs. Essentially I'm calling in to question how accurate it is to look back on popular culture and lore from the past and draw assumptions that that was indeed the general belief at the time. But of course they knew of it, I'm sure those who knew of both worlds in America would make fun of us with it in a tongue in cheek manor but surely they knew of the rest of the country as well, you know, the parts they had been dealing with for over a century prior.

Ninja fox girls, however, are the best. I believe we can all agree on that one.

Yuina is clearly America. She's rich and used to having cash to splash around with not a care in the world for the problems this might cause down the line. Got a problem? Through more money at it!
Ohana stands in for Italy. Now during a crisis everyone is looking around worrying about Ireland and Greece and Spain but they forget about Italy. But then they remember that the person at the top of the Italian political and economic pyramid is a totally nutty! Suddenly it doesn't sound like a good idea to lend him money. Still, Ohana's fiscal policies aren't as terrible as Greece's yet, she only wants to spend her money on sweets but she's got a long way to go before being completely useless.
Nako is Japan: Quiet, reserved, concerned with endlessly saving money. Rather than furthering herself my developing, or helping the economy by shopping, she'd rather just save tirelessly.
Minchi is Germany, concerned with being industrious and developing herself further she makes the best use of her wages to improve and find ways to do her job better.

I just found the sequence lending to it laughable because the setup was terrible (Ba'alskra, "never give up," etc).Steroyd said:I think I black out everytime the love conquers all plot point is used.
But was he already dead? With the amount of times the guy has died since he learned that he can die 7 times, it's amazing how the issue never came up much earlier in his life.

It's just, compared to other Miyazaki works, it is much less lively and less interesting to look at, even the comparatively derided ones like Howl's Moving Castle or Ponyo on a Cliff by the Sea. I don't feel it captures the everyday life vibe as well as a Takahata film. It's safe to say I don't 'get' the adoration for Totoro and never have.
Somehow this is almost creepier than the posts about Nako's age.Jexhius said:[Hansaku Representin']
