Super Mario 3D World: New Trailer

I can't believe this and Tearaway are coming out on the same day. Two awesome looking 3D platformers (one more older 3D mario style with adventuring [Tearaway] and one purely 3D platforming [SM3DW]). I don't know how I'm going to get both on the same day. :( I guess I'll just have to save some extra.

At least Tearaway is mega cheap (£20 @ Amazon.co.uk). Makes it easier for my wallet.

It's better than what we saw before, but this still seems like a Sunshine-level disappointment coming from the Galaxy series. The level design just seems too wide-open and boring. I'm sure it'll be better than it looks, but my hopes are pretty low even after this trailer.

Another crow eater right here... still not feeling the isometric camera view... but i can get accustomed i guess.

Same here. It was a main reason why I felt the gameplay in 3D Land was "floaty".

Overall though, I'm eating crow too. The amount of detail in this game really surprised me.

Not bad for a 3DL DLC pack.

who's your daddy, bitches!

This game looks freaking amazing. The first trailer didn't blow me away, though it did look fun and great graphically, but this trailer just erased any doubts I'd had. Day 1.

I don't know much about this version, how much does it share with Super Mario World?
They're just using the naming convention to link the 3DS/Wii U versions - it's Super Mario 3D Land on consoles injected with steroids and LSD. No dinosaur world connection.

Oh, GAF is up!

Game looks amazing in that off-screen footage from IGN. Music is sounding pretty damn good too. God I can't wait.

As expected EAD and Mario deliver as usual. The cherries are so Mario, they brought a smile to my face when I saw the clone in the trailer and a bigger one when I saw some gameplay footage of the clone-tastic chaos.

The current, all-time and still reigning kings of gameplay show up the gaming world again.

Favorite part about this trailer is the music. It's great, and so much better than the track used in the reveal trailer. Game looks real good too. Has it been confirmed whether you have right-stick camera control in single player mode?

I liked the reveal music more. This is pretty cool, but the reveal trailer had a really memorable theme IMO.

The moral?

Never underestimate Nintendo.

Words to live by.

Never underestimate EAD Tokyo would be more accurate as they haven't produced a single stinker, unlike other parts of Nintendo.

They made Sunshine, which was simply bad, and 3D Land, which was like a miniature, mediocre version of Galaxy. They can produce great games, but I'm not one for blind faith in them.

Yuck at the art direction and music. I guess there's only so much you can do with 3D Land groundwork and while it's better than the E3 footage, being better than godawful doesn't automatically mean being good. And still so many traces of the 3DS roots everywhere. plus wth is going on with that big field in which you hunt these rabbids? Ground textures ported straight from Pikmin? :lol
And that lazy, tiresome Boom Boom fight really had to make it in again? Kinda sad seeing some of these ideas wasted in such an entry. Gonna be an okay party game, but these stages look way too bland and empty in the SP walkthrough videos. If anything, the shown stages feel like they were made for a Mario RPG rather than a platformer.

I can only hope the sales don't even reach Sunshine level. I gonna do my part and buy it used if anything.

I'm getting these both AND the new Zelda. Three retail games on the same day has to be a record for me. @_@

Looks like it would be a good game if not for the weird perspective. It just makes it look cheap. Real 3D Mario all the way.

Thought it looked just okay. Don't think it will be a system seller at all.

Interesting that 90% of the posts in this thread think it looks amazing, but because it didn't grab you by the balls with this trailer, you figure it won't be a system seller "at all".
Obviously it may not be for you, but it will sell some people on the system. How many remains to be seen.

Well, do what you can, I suppose.

oh god, that's terrifying
And I understand that. Maybe it's because I grew up with 64 and Sunshine, but personally I really enjoy that style of 3D platformer? and there isn't exactly a bunch of games out there like it. So if they want to go this direction with Mario, then by all means they should. But they should make another IP that plays like Super Mario 64 and Sunshine haha.

very much agree with this. It seems Nintendo is firm with keeping 3D Marios in this style, so why not give the 3D adventure platformer (like Banjo and DK64) a new face? Would work well for them, I would think.

THANK YOU. Finally I no longer feel like I'm the only one who thinks this, even after seeing this "improved" trailer.

Every stage just looks so empty and spread-out to accommodate casual multiplayer hijinx. Graphically it's okay, I guess, but nowhere near as impressive as the art style they as employed in Galaxy 1 and 2.

No matter how you slice it, this just looks like a significant step back from the Galaxies, and that's coming from a guy who wanted to see a return to Mushroom Kingdom!

I can't stop watching this trailer... over... and over... again...

it's like cocaine for me

The eShop stream of course. It's freaking glorious. 60 fps too, I think? Looks really smooth, but I was never good with framerates.

I'm a new Wii U owner! Pulled the trigger this morning

Just bought the Zelda bundle, and will get this and W101 to go with it. This game makes me smile like I haven't in years! Damn, I always end up caving and getting Nintendo every time

I knew I was gonna get this already and even I am blown away by that trailer. I thought the E3 footage looked good, maybe not great, but good. This trailer just completely crushed that.

Visually this looks great, level design looks fantastic, or at least way more interesting than it did at E3 -- and it looks like there is a ton of variety.

I mean technically, it wasn't EAD Tokyo who made Sunshine?

Thought the studio itself formed after the game.. arguing minor semantics.

I really really like this. Mario 3D Land was, IMO, the best Mario game since... Mario World-ish? So this is nearly an optimal Mario game for me. But dose graphics, tho. Lookin real good.

jesus....

Wow, this looks absolutely fantastic. It's dripping with creativity! Love the new enemies and return of older types like Bullies. So good!

Thank god it's set in a new kingdom. Man, everything about this looks amazing. That music too, my god!

I hope Nintendo releases a 3D World bundle. Can't wait to pick up a Wii U in November!

Complete nonsense. Same type of nonsense people labeled against NewWii and NewU. Take a representative sample and measure out the space. Its about the same as it is in 3dLand. Galaxy is a hard one to measure thanks to it spherical design. But it is easily more dense than Mario64 and Sunshine.

Go ahead. Pick out some levels that are "so empty and spread-out" and I'll find you a similar level in 3dLand,Galaxy, Sunshine, and Mario64.

Can we talk about the music for a sec? It sounds very big band to me, can't think of any other Mario music like it.

Yeah, I was getting that vibe too. If this is what we can expect from the soundtrack then I'm more than satisfied.

Still don't like the forced 2d-ish camera perspective. It's not a 3D game. It's 2D and sometimes for forced 2.5D but it hasn't got that freedom you get from a proper 3D Mario game.
It does look amazing though. The art work is terrific.

Riiight, because the Galaxy games didn't have forced camera angles either and 2D. Oh, and before you say "but you could control the camera in those games" you can in this one too. Only in single player though for obvious reasons.

There's no difference in the scope of levels in this and the Galaxy games. People are literally clinging to the fact that it vaguely resembles 3D Land

.... okay.

what is a 3D game then? God of war has forced camera angles. guess thats a 2D game then.

That's good to know.

Well to be fair. A lot of the earlier stuff we say did look like a straight up port of 3D Land. You can understand why folks felt like that.
