Super Mario 3D World: New Trailer

Would it be inappropriate to say that this game is not too far removed from Snake Rattle and Roll from an aesthetic standpoint? Also, it doesn't seem to be anywhere near as 3D and SM64 was. It's largely isometric and moving in one direction. Like it's almost a side scroller with a very limited amount of Z axis to it. It really feels to me like the trappings of this game were conceived with the limitations of a handheld in mind and then it was moved over to the Wii U.

Sorry, I don't think anyone thought of SMW as a sequel to Super Mario Land. Not only were the games completely different. It was pretty clear that SMW was Super Mario Bros 4. It was even named that in Japan. Were you even born when those games came out?

As for 3D World, yeah it looks nice but it still looks like a bigger 3D Land. What is putting me off of the game are the flagpoles and timers. Ugh.

Oh my god this game and Sonic Lost World? Its going to be platformer heaven for the end of the year.

Also glad the music is going to be amazing. Sure there are some reused(?) tracks, but that jazzy theme during the trailer and the standard main theme sound great.

I was just tired of seeing 'sequel to 3D Land' used in a negative, derogatory sense. Sorry if I misinterpreted your post. The game looks fantastic regardless of what it is.

Ah, now I see where you were going with that. No worries. Seems we're on the same page, after all. :)

If Nintendo revealed this exact same game with a complete different title, none of these arguments would even exist

That would be an interesting scenario. I think people would appreciate the differences more, but the suspicious similarities would result in a lot of "isn't this 3D Land 2?" posts.

Yeah, those were cool games. Or are you saying the situations are somehow equivalent? Because when I say "follow-up," I don't mean "a game released after."

I came away cold, at E3, I thought it looked like barely an improvement visually, and more or less the same as 3D Land gameplay, but yeah, that looks pretty damn great. If that had been what they'd shown at E3, I'd have been hyped.

Game's looking and sounding a ton better both visually and gameplay wise than it was at E3. Was going to get it regardless but I'm suddenly really excited for it now!

I really wish they'd bring back Rabbit-suit Mario and modify it with a few new features. Burrowing underground, fast running speed and high jumping. It would be my dream. :(

All you blockheads wanting Kamiya to make Star Fox. Why? We have EAD GOD TOKYO!

1. Your Nintendo fanboyism has reached new levels today it seems

2. Kamiya is behind some of the greatest action games of all-time. If he had interest in the series(which is more than anybody at EAD Tokyo has shown in the past decade), why not let him get a crack at it

So far I'm loving the new twists and turns in this game. 3d World, more than Pikmin 3, makes me want to buy a Wii U even though I otherwise don't want one. Damn you EAD!

One trailer turned you from Debbie Downer to this? ;)

Also, has Freezie_KO commented on the trailer? He was so down on it, I wonder what his opinion of the trailer is? I imagine it did nothing to alleviate most of his complaints, though.

Great to see you've calmed down after the GOAT meltdowns...i agree with your words on Kamiya as well...what Retro did for Metroid, Kamiya would take and turn it up 9000 notches...sorry to sound like 2005 but after everything Platinum games has eschewed out I have no doubts he would make Star Fox make Asura's Wrath look like an episode of Hamtaro....and I actually love Asura's Wrath...

Koizumi is a hardcore NIntendo fan. He loves Zelda 2 and Star Fox adamantly. He might be the most hardcore gamer of all the incumbent producers at Nintendo. There's actually a lot of other Nintendo people who want a new Star Fox to happen. Doesn't mean the seniors will give it the green light.

This game looks really amazing. I'm not a big fan of half the stuff Nintendo has been producing lately, but Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 were paramount things in the world of video games. They were just something else. This game really restored my faith after the lackluster 3D Land (imo).

Mario Kart 8 previously blew me away, and now this game is right there. I am honest about the expectations I have as a gamer. Can't love everything just for the sake of it.

Its interesting how the people spouting negativity about the game are obviously in the minority, yet present their warped views as fact anyway. This game isn't a 3D Mario? Really? Not only is it not even a "true" 3d mario but its so bad its like that third dimension of gameplay doesn't even exist. People need to take off their nostalgia goggles and remember how linear the past 3d marios were. Sunshine was just an outlier and wasn't even intended to be a Mario game in the first place. Yet that is a true 3d Mario and not this

I'm glad they put more emphasis on the differences between each character. In the first trailer they all seemed to play the same

Not exactly what I wanted for a Hub, but I do love that it's not so restricted.

One thing I'm kind of hoping is that the overworld is circular. In that it is actually a "world" with no boundaries. I'm pretty sure it won't happen but it would have been oh so cool.

I'm really in the same boat. 3D World is 3D Land on steroids. It's really what 3D Land should have been. And I'll also agree that MK8 is one of Nintendo's best looking and possibly one of their most ambitious titles as of late.

What's wrong with flagpoles? Aren't they essentially better versions of stars since they involve a little extra platforming at the end to reach the top? Stars are just there in most cases.

I'm trying to be on blackout for this game but I keep returning to this thread and accidentally catching glimpses of screens/gifs. Can't resist :'(
