Super Mario 3D World: New Trailer

Part of life is realizing when one is wrong. I was wrong. The first trailer looked like a quick cash in with not much variety. This new trailer shows a lot of variety and fresh ideas. While this is not the Mario type game I was looking for, This does look like a great title worth owning.

Side note - the backgrounds in some places are flat out Beautiful. I got a fuzzy feeling of Super nes gaming for some odd reason when i saw the Boswer castle level.

That's something I find intriguing about this game. The NSMB series was basically built to play off of people's nostalgia. And yet, for me, it simply didn't work. This game, however, seriously makes me feel like it's the NES/SNES era while at the same time being very new. It's the perfect mix of old and new to me.

Another note, I'm excited to see no Koopa Kids/Bowser Jr in this so far...

As much as I welcomed their return in NSMBW, I have felt went to that well a bit much recently.. so happy to see some different types of bosses.

I'm always surprised/amused/disturbed at your encyclopedic knowledge of seemingly every Nintendo franchise.

Encyclopedic? I remember lots of things about things I've experienced. If I forget or don't know something there are actual encyclopedias where you can check these things. Some people in previous threads could have used checking them before making claims that weren't supported.

Interestingly, I did not own an SNES or an N64 and I hated Nintendo irrationally because all I had was a Sega Genesis and a PSX. I didn't start enjoying Nintendo franchises again until I got a GCN and then I caught back up on what I missed with game rereleases and virtual console. Though I did play some games back in the day on a borrowed SNES and my cousin's/friends' houses (DKC, DKC2, SMW, ALttP).

I dunno why you gotta keep up with the ad hominems, though.

^ hasn't played Kid Icarus: Uprising or most Zelda games since OoT.

Hell, remember Kirby's Adventure?

Or Mario 3D Land?

uh there was a twist in Mario 3D Land?

When I was a kid I was mesmerized by claymation: the lighting, the texture, the expression. It makes me smile to see that look make its way into a Mario game, and furthers the child like joy I know I'll have playing through this game. I honestly didn't think a Mario game's graphical fidelity could ever surpass that of the Galaxy games, but this game makes really good use of the expanded technology.

Wind Waker says what?

Though tbh in general you're right. Wish they focused more on story.
NO. Nintendo is one of the few that still focuses on gameplay above everything, if you wan't that, Sony has plenty of first party offerings that are basically a plot through a lineal path with tons of scripts.
I don't want this to be Nintendo's focus.

TWIST! The princess is in another castle!

The ultimate video game twist.

Then say that instead of making giant generalizations about every single game a company has ever made for over 25 years. When you do that you're pretty much guaranteed to be proven wrong.

You can only move goal posts after your claim has been torn to shreds :)

SMG 1's story also doesn't fit with his claim. Now he's gonna move on to "bu-bu-bu TWISTS?" ...

Nintendo has games that have a massive focus on story and they have games that don't have massive focus on story.

Examples: Fire Emblem, Mario & Luigi, Paper Mario (excluding Sticker Star) Kid Icarus Uprising, Xenoblade all had story as a big focus while also having great gameplay. I suppose you can throw Advance Wars into that category too but it's story is more of an excuse for the tactical battles. I'm sure there's others that I missed too.

Then you have things like mainline Mario entries and even to a degree the Zelda series where story is still there but is quite minimalist. They aren't completely filled with cutscenes and there are vast periods of time in the games where you don't see a cutscene for quite some time. Mainly talking about Zelda here, as Mario story is literally "_____ got kidnapped go save them."

Oh man I love just looking at the gifs after not seeing them for a few hours. So good.

Stories in videogames are like bacterial infections that infect and destroy one game after another until there are barely any healthy specimens left in the gaming industry. Fortunately Mario has high levels of immunity.

So is there a co-op campaign and a single player campaign? Or is it just one campaign that you can either play single player or co-op?

Why are there purple blocks? They don't seem to be any different to normal brown one's. Is it just because were not in kansas (mushroom kingdom) any more?

I think they focus just the right amount. And most times, there story-driven games like Zelda and Fire Emblem have very good engaging tales and don't include M. Night Twists, nanomachines, or dudebro fanfics.

Nintendo almost always has the perfect amount of narrative in their games. Pikmin 3, which I just finished, had a simple, yet very effective story. Give me motivation to move forward and let the gameplay do the rest.

EAD Tokyo. EAD GOD TOKYO.

Koizumi also has another director and team working on another project. Bring me more!!

*motherofgod.gif*

Never doubted EAD Tokyo in the least. My only dilemma now is if I choose to download this sucker or pony up to buy a disc.

If only there was a way to clone them so that they can just make games faster...

no way im reading 31 pages to check, but just noticed the hand gesture to open the goombas screen, so there might be fun hidden stuff - at least more than just tapping hidden blocks.
