Super Paper Mario moved to Wii (Shock!)

Why in the hell does everyone want the Gamecube version of Zelda to be cancelled? Exactly what good would come of that by this point and time?

Well, what (outside of "to be nice") would be the point of releasing what would otherwise be the Wii's killer app on a console that's already pretty much dead? They were being nice by keeping people's hopes alive but they really need to think about how they're going to sell the most Wiis this year, and part of that is by putting Zelda on Wii only.

i don't know -- so we can play the last great game in the old zelda tradition with appropriate controls? you still haven't said what you would get out of the cancellation of the gamecube version...and unless it's pure schadenfreude or some "PLAY IT MY WAY OR DON'T PLAY IT AT ALL" sentiment, i don't get it.

So it would be the Shenmue II of next-gen? That would only sour the fanbase.

who said Super Paper Mario will be a launch game?
Can you read what he said? "Near" Assuming since the game was scheduled for October 29 in Japan it shouldn't be too far off.

Then what was the point of making a Wii version at all? If Nintendo's new thing going forward is disruption and they want people to try and embrace the Wii controls as not just a tacked-on gimmick (even if it "is" in this case), then there is no point to a GC version. Otherwise, people who don't want Wii and just want to play Zelda can buy a used GameCube, play Zelda, then sell off both. And I would imagine that goes against what Nintendo wants people doing this holiday.

I was hoping this game was coming to the Wii. I'd kinda like to leave the memory of the GCN far behind me. On to bigger and better things and all that :)

I might as well post this here:

I started this ad (and eventually the ad thread) to stress how SPM wii should play: like the orginal. I thought of a whole bunch of really stupid taglines like "The way it was meant to be" or something else like that.

The point of doing this whole thing is that we should be playing this new version on a NES pad. Nothing else.

why do you people support a company's profits over actually getting games to play? There is something genuinely wrong with your pudgy brains!

I want to play a game with no added hardware expense to me, on the system it was intended for from initial design.

I can't grasp the thought of "But Nintendo won't be maximising their user-base that way!" What?! WHAT! Perhaps if this announcement came with "But dont worry as we've added a gameplay mechanic that makes the entire game 200% better!" I could understand. But the people arguing "good stuff, I'd have hated seeing this come out on gamecube!" dont make sense to me.

I'm getting a Wii anyway. So I guess I'll just point at you and laugh as I get to play a good game that you won't.

Uh I don't care about it not being on GCN because I am getting a Wii. Why should I care if its not on GCN? Or the majority of the people interested in this game at that? Since its fairly obvious most people interested in this title are getting a Wii.

twilight princess isn't the new nintendo's first big game -- it's the old nintendo's last big game. as miyamoto has said, this is the last traditional zelda game before zelda becomes something else. it makes excellent creative sense to release a version of this zelda with logical, lucid, traditional controls -- whatever the waggle wand might in theory do for future zeldas, in this zelda it's going to make you swing your arm around to execute canned sword animations. i hope everyone can understand the objections to this control idea, "tacked on" or no. the waggle wand needs a showcase, but it'd be a grotesque creative waste to make twilight princess play that part.

nintendo's market incentives to cancel the gc version of zelda are obvious enough, and i fully expect nintendo to follow them. what any of us would get out of the gc version's cancellation remains a mystery.

What about that warm, fuzzy feeling you get knowing Nintendo did the right thing?

Yeah, curse you, Nintendo, for changing a game that hasn't even been released yet and for making the graphics better!!

maybe Nintendo noticed how ****ing awesome SPM is (after all it is made by IntSys) and decided not to waste that title on a dead console? seriously this is a logical move. I dont see anything wrong with it.

You can't possibly play that card with Wii tech, and a 2d sprite-based game.

why? I love the idea of using the motion functions for this game, especially in battle. It's the perfect game to get people accommodated to the new controls, because it's not fast-paced or requiring in heavy precision.

Pull back the remote to simulate the hammer, then push forward with the onscreen cue. Jump over enemies by lifting the remote quickly. If an enemy grabs onto you to suck life away, shake the remote wildly. To me at least, this seems a lot more fun that just pushing 'A' all the time. And I can't imagine it would be too difficult to implement.

edit: I do like that graphic however :)

*list of games* [..]
I don't know... that list is my reaction to Wii. I enjoyed my GC greatly but looking at what's coming out on Wii from Nintendo, I am seriously underwhelmed. .

Please explain to me how this works. You listed the major Nintendo titles and told us how bland they are or how much you don't like them but then claim to like the gamecube.

No Nintendo first party developed title had widescreen. Ever.

Super Mario Strikers doesn't count? I haven't played in a few months but it certainly has a 16:9 ratio (and it looks just fine)... though it was developed by Next Level Games. What's your full definition of "first party"?

You'll see that my post says "no Nintendo developed". So no, Strikers doesn't count.

well it's fairly obvious you're not getting the obvious.

no one is acting as if they work for nintendo.

we're simply smart and realize WHY they're doing this. it IS the MUCH smarter business decision. gamecube is dead. Wii is going to be more popular than GC. this game could have the same effect on Wii as NSMB is having on DS, but would NEVER do that on GC.

it makes SENSE.

and since MOST people who were planning on getting this, are PROBABLY going to get Wii anyway, people don't care.

why not have it be on the better system in that case?

Than what If I am not a Nintendo fan and don't want to buy the wii. for all I know the wii could end up like the GC
Unlike the GC, the Wii will receive an awesome Mario hybrid platformer from IS. Also, it'll have the first good 3D Sonic game ever.

Also, I have your cat. You'll get him back when you learn to love Nintendo.

i dunno -- i'd take a good zelda game over anything in int sys' catalogue. any three things even. and super paper mario should be an interesting novelty, but we know very well that it won't match new smb. i think we should all talk about zelda in this thread.

IntSys is the only reason to like Nintendo remotely. Who says TP is going to be a good Zelda game anyway?

No one. Everyone is saying it'll be a ****ing awesome Zelda game and it shall put any FE, AW, or PM to shame instantly.

Good EAD games > Good IntSys games. Just so happens we only saw a few good EAD games in the last few years compared to IntSys's many.

:lol

when i said "a good zelda game" i was thinking of ocarina. which remains the best zelda game, though i certainly appreciate majora's warped reflection of it. we can reasonably hope that twilight princess will belong in that company. we can't reasonably hope that super paper mario will belong in new smb's company. advance wars is cute, sure, and fire emblem must have been impressive in a time when there was no such thing as tactics ogre...but int sys beating ead at mario? it's about as likely as a bunch of turok veterans making a great metroid game.

i hereby declare this the "whine about the death of zelda" thread.
