He's running homebrew in Wii mode to play GCN games off a hard drive and using the mirror to the GamePad option that was added in the last(?) major Wii U update.

It's probably just the GC game running through Devolution, which means the gamepad is just functioning as a screen, as with Wii BC.
At least take a gander at the [post=130514123]previous page[/post].
Stage and character select screens are only 1 page each. With those arrows in place (supposedly data mined), there's a chance that we might get new stages and/or characters.

Bowser Jr. - First appearance: Super Mario Sunshine (2002)
Bowser's only actual child, and his second in command. Seen in a lot in the platforming games, like the New Super Mario Bros. games and Super Mario Galaxy.
The Koopalings - First appearance: Super Mario Bros. 3 (1988)
Some of Bowser's henchmen, albeit not blood-related. Seen most commonly in the New Super Mario Bros. games, where they've had a bit of a resurgence.
Koopa Kid - First appearance: Mario Party (1998)
Another one of Bowser's henchman, only seen in the original seven Mario Party games and Mario Party Advance. Split up into three other Koopa Kids in Mario Party 5.
As you can see, Koopa Kid(s) are not actually in the game, while Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings are.
